2800 Missing Boot Drive C Option on BIOS Setup

$

I am trying to get a 2800, A07 firmware, to boot from a PCI Express SATA controller card which has an SSD attached to it. The card shows up on BIOS boot with the disk drive. On the BIOS set up page under Hard-Disk Drive Sequence the card shows up at *Slot 3 Adapters with no ID support. The second entry is System BIOS boot devices. However, on the BIOS setup fro the Boot Sequence there is no option to boot from Drive C. All that is shown are the IDE CD-ROM and the Diskette Drive A.

What can be done to have Drive C show up on the Boot Sequence set up option?

Will an Intel E5-2600 v2 series processor be compatible in an R720xd server with a non-v2 processor?

In a Dell PowerEdge R720xd.. We have some that came with dual Intel Xeon E5-2630 processors. Does anyone know if those can be switched out with the intel E5-2600 v2 series processors, such as E5-2650v2? Or would a newer motherboard be required?

I’m reminded of the 11th gen Dell servers, like the R610 and R710. The Type I motherboards support all the 5500 and 5600 series CPUs, except for the X5680 and X5690. To use those two processors, the motherboard must be a Type II. Updating the BIOS firmware doesn’t resolve that.

Thanks, Dave H.

R210 II NIC driver for Windows 7 x64

Good day!

I apologize in advance if this has been answered before, but a searched provided no results.

I am trying to install a R210 II server with Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit. The OS, unfortunately, cannot be Server 2008 R2 as the client requires SCADA software that is only supported on Windows 7.

I would think that the driver designed for Server 2008 R2 should still work on Windows 7 Professional, but when trying to install the driver package (Broadcom NIC) the installer quits stating it is only applicable to Server 2008/R2, etc.

Does anyone have an alternative for me?

Win7 does install a Microsoft provided driver, but returns a "Device cannot start" error in Device Manager, which I usually find is driver-related.

Thanks in advance!

Can a Poweredge R410 with cabled drives be upgrade to support hot-swap by adding the hot-swap backplane and a H200 Controller?

I am purchasing a used R410 for home use, and believe it is of the cabled hard drive configuration, and not hot-plug/swap.   While this is not a HUGE concern, hot-swap is nicer.   Looking at the chassis pictures (and the system maintenance manual, i can't seem to tell if it is possible to convert the cabled configuration to hotswap.   Is it possible to do this, assuming I purchase the backplane, hard drive trays, and a H200 controller?

Thanks!

Cannot find PowerEdge R715 rail kit for threaded 'U' rack

Hello,

We have one PE715 server that we've been unable to find a rail kit for, that will fit our threaded racks.  Our racks are a bit unusual, I believe, because each post is in a 'U' shape.  The inside edge of the rack seems to be causing clearance problems for any rail kit that we try.  We have several other Dell servers, that we're able to use the static post rails with and they work just fine (some by using 3rd party bracket adapters).  I purchased DP/N K291G & DP/N G483G at the advice of Dell sales, but the server doesn't fit in them.

This is what our rack posts look like: http://imgur.com/LiUZgMe

If anyone has run into this and/or has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

PCIe Trining Error: Embedded NIC 3

Greetings,

The server R710 had a prolonged power outage. When the power came back on the system booted and was then halted for a

"PCIe Training Error: Embedded NIC 3"

I read other posts on this  but they all involved PCI BUS and Cards and their solutions did not pertain because the error involves an embedded component.

I cannot get in to the BIOS because of the System Halt. Is the anyway I can bypass this error or disable the Training Error reporting altogether?

Thank you for any response.

PowerEdge 1950 Will Not Turn On - Amber Light Flashes twice

$

Last week I installed a USB 3.0 PCIe-X1 card and powered the card using an external MOLEX power supply. The card worked great and was recognized by my Windows 2012 server. I tested it with an external USB Hard drive and it worked great. Today there was a power outage and I found that the server had rebooted and halted with the following error: PCIe Training Error: Embedded ......... System Halted ! I Hard rebooted the server to see if it would go away and the error still occurred. On the third Attempt, the server would no longer power on. The LCD flashes Amber twice and displays no message. When I push the power button, nothing happens. Both power supplies seem OK since the green lights are on. These are the steps I took to on avail: 1) Removed the PCIe-X1 USB card 2) Removed the PCIe riser and reseated. 3) Tried the RESET Jumper 4) Replaced CMOS battery 5) Unplugged the server from power and pushed the power button for 20 seconds as someone suggested to drain memory power. At this point I ran out of ideas. Any suggestions out there would be greatly appreciated.

PowerEdge R515 AMD Opteron 4228 HE not working...

Hello,

I am trying to replace the existing Opteron 4176 HE processors running at 2.4Ghz with two Opteron 4228 HE processors running at 2.8 Ghz. According to the spec sheets, the unit should be able to support these processors and I have seen a few configurations in which this server had them installed. Trouble is, when I install these processors, I get nothing but a blank screen and blinking HD lights. I have tried using each processor individually in case one of the was broken, but no dice. At this point, I don't really know what to do next. Does anyone out there ave any idea as to what it might be?

PE6850, Win Server 2012, video card crashing

Hi,

I want to start using my server for graphics design, but I need more colors and more resolution.

I have a nvidia nvs300 card (pcie 1x), when I plug it in and turn the system on it displays all the boot up text but as soon as the windows logo is supposed to come up, the whole system crashes and just beeps at me, with a single beep

The standard video card is plugged into a separate screen to what the nvs300 is plugged into.  So I know that the bios is automatically swapping from on board video to the nvs300.

all the bios, bmc, etc.... Is up to date

is this a windows driver problem?

Installing New HDD on PE 1950

Hi All,

I recently had a PE 1950 which I am planning to use for 3d and other engineering applications. I managed to get a new HDD with specs below:

Ultrastar 15K600 HUS156045VLS600, 450 GB, 15k RPM, SAS

When I installed it on my PE 1950 and run the disc controller setup, it shows Wrong Type and I cannot configure further.

Any work around / advise to fix this?? I purchased 2 new disks and would appreciate the help.. Thanks

2950 / 2900 won't install OS

$

Ok here is my dilemma. I have purchased, (x4) 2950 and (x4) 2900 to run a website. They are all used and in hardware working order. I fought with all the machines, to try to get them to install Windows server 2008. They get to the point to the install screen, then when you click install, I get a window, where it wants me to install a driver or two. I do not have the original disk's for these machines. So I have chosen to upgrade to 2008. It always stops at that screen, because I have no way to get drivers for these machines, because they are all exe files. I just need a driver that will install at this screen. I also tried installing server 2003, with the same results. So when I began looking for a solution, I came across this SBUU utility, that is supposed to be actually compatible with all my servers I own (PowerEdge 840, 2950, 2900, 2600). But does not work with these 2950 or 2900, when it says it should. They are in the list provided with the utility preface. I have downloaded the "Dell system build and utility version 1.6 Rev." I keep getting these errors, from all machines. Here's the link: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=NF1CT&osCode=WNET&fileId=2731102793 The SBUU utility is supposed to allow the temporary install of drivers off the disk created, so you can then install the OS. I have tried installing directly as you would with any other machine. But when it gets to the install part it says I need a CD/DVD or Driver to run the DVD drive. I don't understand. I am using the OS disk at this point, and end up with this issue. So I have read around and found the utility above, but it won't run because of a MD5 Error I believe. Have no idea how to get around any of this. I have ran all that I can on the ISO I burned (Named above). To no avail. I don't know where else to turn. This has me stumped. When I installed an OS on my PowerEdge 840 and PowerEdge 2600, it was simple and direct.

Processors, Cores, etc

$

Just need a bit of help insuring I understand the processor, core, etc.  The Dell M620 Power Edge Server uses an Intel Xeon 2640 processor.  That processor has 8 cores, 20M Cache and 20GHZ clock speed.

My understanding is that the Xeon is a sinlgle chip or piece of hardware that has multiple (in this case) 8 cores embedded in it.  Intel of course makes a huge line of chips that vary in core size clockspeed and cache size all of which drive performance.

My questions are:

1. So the M620 box sold online with this processor is a server with this one chip and 8 cores.  This is a single processor (8 core) server, correct?

2.  My understanding is that 8 cores (along with speed and cache) are what ultimately drive performance. However, I could also configure a dual processor server with 2 x 4 core processors for about the same effect (holding cache and speed aside).  Is that correct?

3.  Holding total number of cores constant, what would be the rationale or advantages of going to one processor wiht more cores vs. more processors with fewer cores?
