I know it is odd for a server, but I need to connect a TV to the T20 with a DisplayPort to HDMI cable. Picture is fine, but I am not getting audio on the TV. A. Does the T20 pass audio over DP? B. If yes, what is the combination of drivers to get it to work? Thanks

Dell R310 Issue

I got a problem with my Dell R310 with a S100 Raid 5

I'm not sure what is going on with it. I updated all the firmware and BIOS updates. but When I write 5GB of data from one folder to another folder on the same drive it takes about 5 minutes.

Now this also happens if I write about the same amount of data from a network location to the local drive.

seams like the speeds are similar. not the same but close. I have centered the issue down to this one server with the problem. now I can send data from this server to another at good speeds. But the write on it is terrible.

I did notice 1 error event in the system Event viewer for Error ID 11 Disk 01. but it only happens 1 time maybe a little bit after a reboot. it doesnt continue to error.

the raid and controller check out ok in Dell Open Manage.

this problem seams like it started up just a few days ago. It was fine on July 4 and 5th but then July 6 is when looks like it started.

iDRAC7 java failure

I have an M1000e chassis with PE-M620's. I've loaded the latest firmware updates and am unable to load the virtual console. iDRAC is running 1.57.57 and LifeCycle is on 1.4.2.12. I can see it in the preview window but Java crashes shortly after I attempt to launch it. I get the same results with IE, Chrome & FF. Java version is 7.6. Below is the error listed in the Java log. I've lowered the security on Java to medium and added exceptions for the chassis and blades in the Java CP.

Java Web Start 10.60.2.19
Using JRE version 1.7.0_60-b19 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for: https://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:443/software/avctKVM.jar

KVM/VM Client Version: 5.01.01 (Build 22)

I'd appreciate any hints. I've run out of options.

PowerEdge T710 memory upgrade

Hi all,

I currently have a T710 with 144GB (18 slots of 8GB).  I'd like to take it to 192GB of RAM the cheapest way possible.

I'm mindful that I can't just drop some 16GB sticks in there, and that it has to be laid out a certain way (certain banks to certain processors etc).

Can someone advise me on what I need to buy and which configuration I should be looking at?

Many thanks,

Can no longer get to BIOS Settings on Dell PowerEdge R320

We have a Dell PowerEdge R320 server that we are using as a workstation.  We have installed Windows 7 Professional OS.  We found the video card on the R320 to be inadequate, so it has been upgraded.  After upgrading the video card and installing the proper driver for it, we disabled in the BIOS settings the integrated video device.  We now are displaying off the new video card, so that if working fine.

The problem I am having now is that since the video card was added, I can no longer get to the BIOS settings at all.  I wanted to change the boot order to have the server boot off Acronis disk in the CD/DVD drive so that I could do a backup, but the BIOS settings page just never comes up.

Has anyone experienced this before and, if so, is there a solution?

Poweredge 1900 Large hard drive support?

I recently inherited a Dell Poweredge 1900. Great machine, but the specs I have read says it only supports up to 750GB hard drives, but the wording seems to point to the PERC 5i, while there are SATA ports on the motherboard not being used. My question is would using the SATA ports on the motherboard support larger drives than the PERC 5i? I want to use the server to store all my dvds on for my HTPC.

T610 - 6GB is NOT sufficient!

I bought this a few years ago, and it seemed OK initially...

After restarting it's used perhaps 3.5GB. After a bit of time it's up to something near 5.8GB and lagging significantly.

This is the memory which my profile shows is installed:

> DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 2G, 1333, 2RX8X72, 8, 240, UBE

Processor (1):

> E5520, 2.26/5.86, 8MB, XDN, D0

Obviously, three of those.

I'm thinking that bringing it up to double or triple that would give me some headroom. I"m running SBS2008, and not much else except a dental practice management program.

The memory was "unbuffered", but I really have no idea why that was picked for the install.

Is it better to add memory to what I've got (would have to be the same?) or take it out and go with perhaps 3x8GB's ?? Buffered.. unbuffered???

Does it matter if it's DELL memory??

THANKS

PowerEdge T110 Continuously Reboots

Our PowerEdge T110 has been running flawlessly and everything was fine.

Earlier today, I was searching the Dell website and noticed that there was a security notice, and there was an "urgent" PowerEdge T110 BMC 1.92 Firmware update.  (Critical Security Update BMC firmware 1.92, A00)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/g60sowuf1m1yb2v/Screenshot%202014-01-29%2019.30.60.png

We downloaded the files from the Dell website here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/GetDriver/OtherFileFormats/Product/poweredge-t110?driverId=G03FR&FileId=3076002098&osCode=W12R2

We selected the driver files we would like to download here:

 https://www.dropbox.com/s/i1ycxr7k30mpv6z/Screenshot%202014-01-29%2019.31.23.png

The installation instructions seemed pretty simple:

Installation Instructions

1. Click Download Now to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save to save the file to your hard drive.

Installation
1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
2. Read over the release information presented in the dialog window.
3. Download and install any prerequisites identified in the dialog window before proceeding.
4. Click the Install button.
5. Follow the remaining prompts to perform the update.

We followed the instructions, and then after the download completed, we ran the program/update package (on Windows Server 2012 R2), and it said that it completed successfully and the system needed to reboot.

After the system rebooted, the Dell splash screen (with BIOS version) comes back up then it shows the BMC version as 1.30.05 (not the 1.92 updated BMC version which supposedly was the update) and now the computer continuously reboots.

It seems that something went wrong with the BMC firmware update, the BMC firmware was not properly updated to 1.92, and instead our Dell PowerEdge T110 now just continuously reboots now.

Is this a bad firmware/security update?  Any ideas as to how this can be fixed?

Is there a way to rollback the BMC firmware update back to the previous version?  Or a way to fix/get the system to boot normally?

Graphics GPU for PowerEdge R710 or R910

$

Guys,

Does anyone know of getting a way of getting a powerful GPU (Graphics Process Unit) in Dell R910 or R710 Server?

The R710 and R910 both has the capacity for a x16 Slot (R710 with an expansion module) , but  x16 slot is only restricted to 25w power and specs specifically state the 150W ATX specification is not supported - This means only tiny video cards with low power draw...

- HP DL380's can support the bigger 150W cards out of the box, but we're a dell shop and buy different vendor kit isn't really an option.
- I was also looking at the NVidia Quadro 2200 D2 which uses PCIEx8 expansion cards to offload the GPU to processing to the dedicated 1U Applicance, but thats a bit over kill for our needs (and likely over our budget)

Ideally I'm looking for a way to stuff a fairly decent GPU into a R710 or R910 for proper 3D acceleration.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Is it possible to replace CPU E3-1220v3 (Haswell) to E3-1280v2 (Ivy) on R220?

We have some issues with performance on one of our PowerEdge R220 and we are considering to replace CPU from E3-1230 v3 to E3-1280 v2. I had compared these CPUs on Intel Ark and they look very similar.

http://ark.intel.com/compare/75052,65725

So, the question is't possible to replace CPU in my case?

PE2900 Upgrading PERC6i controller to H710 or something similar.

$

Hi all,

I'm looking for some information regarding PE2900 and the PERC controller.  My box has a PERC 6i and of course it's got the 2 cables from it to the backplane of the 8 drive chassis.

What I want to do is swap out the PERC 6i or at least move the drives off it on to something like a H710, for a couple of reasons.. 1, the controller perfomance change is fairly significant, and 2nd the PERC 6i won't see anything larger than a 2TB SATA drives and I'd like to put in some 4TB drives.

The quetsion is does anyone know what cable I should be looking for as the H710 is a the newr SAS card connector rather than the older flat card edge connection on the PERC 6i. I think looking at the cables that a Gnf4h Poweredge T710 cable would work but I'd like to know for sure before I go buying cables.

Any help/information would be greatly appreciated.

Tks,

Dave
