Lifecycle Controller IP Address

I'm curious what common practice is for assigning a Lifecycle Controller IP Address for Poweredge Servers. Do people use the same IP as the installed OS since both will not be up simultaneously?

Use a PCI graphics card on Poweredge T620

Purchased  Poweredge T620, with a NVIDIA Tesla C2075 CUDA card in for use as a high end workstation and CUDA machine.

Due to the programs I must run I have set the machine up dual booting Windows 7 and Linux (this in itself took some doing).

The graphics are currently being served by the onboard Matrox G200.

I have managed, on both systems to install the CUDA graphics card, for use in programming.  However I decided to attempt to use another graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce GT610) as on Linux, installing the NVIDIA drivers stops me being able to access my monitors full screen resolution (a problem that I think will be more easily solved if graphics are being handled by an NVIDIA chipset on an external card).  Additionally the Matrox G200 is not going to be sufficient for some of the programs I am going to be required to run in Windows.

On installing the GT610, no output was displayed (both before and after driver installation), I discovered this is also the case if I plug a monitor into the CUDA card.  It seems there is some BIOS/iDRAC setting preventing output through any additional PCI graphics card.

I have tried disabling the onboard graphics controller in the BIOS, however this merely left me with no display at all, then requiring me to reset the BIOS via the jumper, a process I would prefer not to have to repeat.  I also speculatively, adjusted the iDRAC network setting "Enable NIC" to "Disabled" but with no luck (though I have not tried disabling the onboard graphics via the BIOS since this change).  Windows sees all graphics cards as installed and working, however does not see any displays connected to the,

If anyone has any ideas as to which settings need to be changed to enable output from PCI graphics cards, that would be amazing!

Thanks

NIC driver updates

Hi,

We have a poweredge R910 (servicetag: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>), that the RDP connection to the Hyper-v virtual Machines on this server rendomly failed, one of the steps we would like to take to update the NIC drivers and I want the correct drivers, I think there is a way to allow the dell analyze all the hardware on the server and then comeupwith dirvers update is any exist.

as I remmebr for the otiplex work stations when i go to the dell.com/support there I can give the service tag of the machine and dell do the rest but on this pwoeredg I cannot do this.

Any idea how can I allow dell to find the druiver update for this server?

R720 hangs/goes slow with FPGA PCI card

Hi,

We have a Dell R720 which is having a few problems with a (Xilinx chipped) FPGA PCI card. The server itself is running CentOS 6.4 x64, OMSA 7.4.0 and the latest BIOS we can get our hands on (2.1.3). In slot 7 is a Solarflare 10Gbps network card which is working fine and in slot 6 is the troublesome FPGA card.

At first all is well and the server boots fine. However after we program the FPGA card then it starts going a bit wrong. Just after the CPLD messages the box will either hang (bad) or take a v-e-r-y long time to progress through the PCI/system checks and Lifecycle bit (not as bad). As things stand we have slot 6 set to not be available for boot drivers just in case. When it hangs the LED screen says:

PCI 1320 Bus Fatal Error bus 0, device 3 function 0, power cycle system.

We're just about to try moving the FPGA to slot 4, in case it makes any difference. I was just wondering if anyone has a clue about what the problem may be, as we're a bit out of ideas. As an aside this sort of thing seems to be fine on a HP DL380 G7 and G8.

Thanks in advance!

I need to know all the processors that the Poweredge 1850 supports.

I am particularly interested to know if it supports the Paxville MP Dual cores @800mhz that has Intel VT.

It has the socket 604, and from my understanding the 1850 supports the Paxville DP series. (no intel VT)

Please advise, thanks.

PE 2950 III - SUU cannot update Broadcom NetXtreme firmware

We have a PowerEdge 2650 Gen III running Windows 2003 SP2 Standard Edition.

We are using Dell SUU (SUU_740_Q42013_A00) to try to update the firmware of our Broadcom NetXtreme NICs.  The update fails very early on, throwing up a Windows error dialogue that says something is "not a valid 32bit application."  A peer suggested that he had had success in running the update directly from the Repository directory.  But the same thing happened when we tried that.  My guess would be that this is a known issue.

The NICs in question are Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtreme II GigE

iDrac6 Enterprise for T310 K869T or J675T ?

I am looking to purchase an IDrac6 Enterprise card for a T310. Using Dell's website I cannot find the appropriate part so I am forced to look at resellers that appear to sell them.

The problem is that they quote different part numbers K869T and J675T. The images appear to be the same.

What is the difference between these two parts ? Which one is most suitable for the T310 ?

expansion card in poweredge T20

Hi

In our university department we are planning to get a few poweredge T20. Since we need basic openGL, I would like to add some basic gfx card onto pcie. On our existing T110-II we have successfully done it with some radeon x1300(low power gfx).

My question: In table 13, of  T20 server technical guide.pdf states in page 17 - that maximum wattage of PCIe expansion is 75 W.

In page 52, of T20-owners-manual.pdf the power consumption of PCIe expansion cards is less than 25 W,

Which of the two statements is correct?

many thanks

R620 needs USB3 or eSATA PCI card. Suggestions?

We need to attach some fast, external storage to this R620,  but I have not had much luck in finding a PCI-e eSATA or USB 3.0 card that works.

I use the exact same cards that I've used in other PowerEdge models (earlier), but in the case of the eSATA card, it causes the POST to halt when it detects hardware.  I've tried multiple USB 3.0 cards, and most have a problem with not having the power connector plug into the card.  Is there a way to get a standard power connector off the power supply in the R620 to plug into a USB 3.0 card?  I did find a card that did not need the power connector, and it is detected and Windows Server 2008 R2 loads it fine, but so far every USB 3.0 hard drive I plug in does not work for some reason or another.  Windows will throw some odd error about the drive, or a some point in writing to it, it will just go offline.

So, what does work in the R620?  Is it because it's using UEFI??  I prefer eSATA over USB 3.0, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help.

Hey,

I have tried to download several SUU updates over the last week (different combinations of servers and packages eg R820 32 bit windows, r720xd 64 bit) and they are failing before finishing.

Just wishing to know if that is happening at the Dell end also i.e. can any of you chaps download successfully using the latest Repository Mgr?

Thx,

John Bradshaw

PowerEdge 2950 BIOS boot utility partition problem

$

Whenever I boot my PowerEdge 2950 using BIOS 2.7, I get an error right after the DRAC config saying utility partition not found, f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. This does not happen with 2.4.3 or before. I suspect it has something to do with BIOS 2.5.0 and above as it states it added DRAC virtual boot options. However, I have my first boot device as the raid drive and all others unchecked. On boot, it still hangs at trying to boot to utility partition. I don't have a UP nor do I want one. Where is the secret setting to get past this? Help!

Thanks,

Bob

Questions on Adding Memory to a R420

Dell PE R420

2 Intel Xeon E5-2407 2.20GHz Processors with 24 GB RAM - (6) 4GB RDIMM 1333 MT/s, Low Volt, Single Rank modules.

The server has 12 DIMM slots.
I have not opened the server.

I am guessing that the RAM is set with 3 cards for each CPU in chan 1,2,3 on the first slot of each channel (white tabs)?.

I want to add an additional RAM to the system.
What are the options to add an additional:

16 GB
20 GB
or
24 GB

I am assuming that adding the cards to the slots and channels will depend on the type of add-on RAM
purchased and that each CPU should have the same amount (i.e. 24GB on each in some combination).

I have checked a  few options

From Dell Site:
A6996808 - 8 GB Certified Replacement Memory 2Rx4 RDIMM 1333MHz LV
A6994455 – 8 GB Certified Replacement Memory Module 2Rx4 RDIMM 1600MHz LV
A6994474 – 4 GB Certified Replacement Memory Module 2Rx8 RDIMM 1600MHz LV
