T300 AHCI Hot-Swap Possible?

I have a T300 with a PERC6/i Raid Controller. There are 3 SATA drives attached in a RAID-5 array.

None of the other SATA ports is currently in use.

I'd like to install a hot-swap HD Cage so I can do backups at SATA speed.

However, I've no idea whether this will actually achieve a hot-swap capability or a "removable" attribute for the drive.

I'm considering this part:  iStarUSA BPN-DE110SS

Can this be done? Does my mobo have AHCI capability?

If so, can it be enabled alongside the RAID controller?

Can Dell PowerEdge R720 auto power up??

After power failure, the Dell PE R720 can't boot up automatically. Have to press power button manually to power on the server.

Can Dell PE R720 auto power up automatically???

PowerEdge R410

Had trouble upgrading our BIOS on R410 server.  Currently running on E5502 CPU.  Want to load the R410 with 16GB 1066 DDR3 Modules.  Will the R410 with one E5502 support 16GB 1066 DDR3 Modules?  If I tried to put them in, then would it damage the modules?  Thank you

T620's device manager recognizes GTX780Ti, but programs do not "see" the card?!

Hi,

I just got a PowerEdge T620 and installed a GTX780Ti. I downloaded the latest driver for the card, and I am have BIOS 1.4.6 on the T620. I am in the middle of trying to update the BIOS, but I cannot figure it out?! I tried to create a DOS-Bootable USB stick with RUFUS, but I guess my USB stick doesn't allow that...

Anyhow, what do I need to do, to get the video card to work?! I understand that I will NOT be able to use a monitor connected to the card, but I can live with that... I guess. I would be very happy if I could at least get the card to work?!

The card is installed in the top slot and I hooked up the cables to it, that say GPU on them... What else do I need to do?!

p.s. this is on Windows 7. I tried to update the cards's driver on Windows Server 2008R2 and got an error message?! However, the driver that came on the CD installed fine... (on Windows Server 2008R2).

Pinout for 1500SC front panel connector on the motherboard?

I need to know what the pinout is for the front panel connector.  It doesn't seem to be in the documentation, nor can I find it on the web.  And I can't be confident that I'm tracing the traces accurately.

How to set up zoning in Dell C8000XD, also can't find anything about C8000MA

I have received a C8000 + C8000XD storage sled, which is working fine, i.e., all disks are visible through all controller ports.

The documentation seems to indicate that one can set up zoning, however, there is no MMI and/or web interface on the storage sled.

The chassis+storage sled did request a DHCP address using the front RJ45 jack,

but I'm not sure what it was for as there are no ports open.

The Quick Start Guide shows a mysterious device called the C8000MA or C8000 Management Appliance.

I cannot find anything about this on the Dell web site.

Dell, the documentation of the whole C8000 product line is incredibly dismal.

BTW: the chassis seems to be fine; I inserted a C8220 in "independent" BMC mode, and was able to get into the web server on the

compute sled BMC. I can't figure out how to configure the storage sled.

dell r410 update BMC to eliminate noisy fans?

Hello everyone, I have a new dell R410 here in a home lab I use to study VMWare. So I have ESXI 5.5 installed, and this server is pretty loud. After some googling, I have read that if I update the BMC or iDRAC firmware, then the fans will quiet down. I went to the drivers section for the R410, and tried every single driver for server 2012 and esxi5.5, and I keep getting not compatible. I tried downloading drivers to a USB Thumb drive, booting to thumb drive running freedos, and can't seem to run any of the .exe's I am sure Im missing something simple; can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Dell PowerEdge 2900 Gen III Hardware

I am looking to upgrade the CPU in this machine. I am going to get two of the the same code. What is the best CPU I can put in this server? 

All hardware firmware, bios and updates are current. I want to put the fastest CPU that is compatible for this Dell NX642 motherboard. Also, I am looking to upgrade the memory. Can anyone recommend any memory configurations that work well for this system. 

This system is also capable of Dual GB teamed ethernet via broadcom netxtreme ii 5708 gigabit ethernet nic. Is it worth setting this up? Right now the previous IT company that is managing this network left the second port unplugged. I would assume that they wanted to make the best from their set-up. Is it beneficial to have the teaming set-up? How much faster is it?

I have the KU482 8 port SAS/Sata Backplane

I would like to know what my Hard Drive Max storage/device/connections? I know I have 8 connectors.

Dell R810 Memory (disable sparing) how????

we bought two r810's recently but at separate times. 

My (old manager) bought one that had sparing enabled per the packing slip.

This server had 256GB 4 ranked DIMMs at 32 x 8GB and we have upgraded to 512GB 4 ranked DIMMs at 32 x 16GB and were not seeing all 512 cause of sparing. How do i reset this so I can get to non-sparing and utilized all 512GB? Mirroring is not enabled.

PowerEdge R410 Fan redundancy lost

Good Morning All, 

i have R410 with this error message on the LCD screen. 

FAN redundancy is lost. 

the server have just 5 FANS. 2 CPUs. 

should i have another fan for that.

I'm currently running: 6.3.1-0003 and I downloaded this SAS-RAID_Firmware_3P52K_WN32_6.3.3-0002_X00.EXE found here:

However it simply reports "This update package is not compatible with your system configuration"

I also look at the support page for the server and it only lists 6.3.1 as compatible so anyone have any idea what's going on?

Is there any detail setup guideline for enabling the DPAT on R620 servers?

I have followed the Guideline below to setup the DPAT, but it seems the freq (cpuinfo) in the OS still no change.

Poweredge 2900 working with graphics card

Hello all, I just wanted to state that I got my server to work with a certain card, it's only 50$ so its an affordable option. 

It's an HP ATI Radeon HD6570 DDR3 1GB  pci-e card. It is a 16x card, but I modified the actual servers 8x port to fit it. 

the driver works fine with the server as well. 

Hope this helps out anyone looking for a card that will work easily and cheaply. I only see the 2gb option available on ebay, but hey that should be even better. 

And just so that I have a question in here, Is it worth getting a secondary psu for this? I bought it at a thrift shop for 80$

specs are 2x 3.0ghz xeon, 20gb ram, 4 drives totaling 700gb. 

It had no video when i got it. Turned out to be that one of the processor sockets was missing the metal clamp, so the processor was moving around and even bent two pins. I replaced the clamp with one from a dead board I had and bent the pins back and presto, working.

Virtual Console Java problem

Hi,

I have several DELL servers with iDRAC 5, 6 and 7
I have installed the latest Java Version 7 Build 51.

When trying to lunch Virtual Console I am receiving a message "Note to the Publisher: Security features to prevent unauthorized redistribution of your Java application will cause this application to be blocked in the future. See current Java documentation about JAR Manifest entries for the changes that need to be made."

When pressing "Run" I am receiving the Exption

Recover data fra RAID1 SAS harddrive

Hi, 

I have a T300 with 2 pcs SAS 1000GB drives in RAID1. One harddisk was degraded. Replaced the drive and rebuild. Choosed to also replace the second drive and do a rebuild. 

BUT..somehow, the Exchange DB is now corrupt/dirty and I need to recover my DB from the old, but working RAID1 hard drive.

Can I just insert the old drive in an emty SAS slot and access the data via Windows Server 2008, without interrupting my existing RAID1?

Memory Upgrade Help Needed Urgently

Hi Everyone,

I have been going around in circles with Dell Sales Team and would hope to find the correct information here.

I have 3 Dell r610 servers currently populated with (12) G484D Dual In-line Memory Module, 4G 1066, 2RX4X72, 8, 240, Regulatory sticks.   The service tag for one of the servers is [Service Tag removed per privacy policy], the other two are exactly the same and purchased on the same day.

 

I wanted to upgrade the servers to 96GB of ram using 16gb sticks, on the website when searching for memory the only 16gb stick to show up is  Dell Part# : A6996789, but it states in the description "**Please note that PowerEdge Servers must have a Westmere or new CPU configuration to be compatible with this memory.**"

These servers are the generation before westmere (X5550 processors)...  Are there any 16gb sticks available for my servers?  Using the 8GB sticks is going to be way too expensive plus leaves no room to increase ram later without replacing all the slots again.

Dell Rack UPS 5600R Error Messages

Last week, we lost power to the building and the generator kicked in as expected.  However, one of the server racks with the Dell UPS 5600R lost complete power.  The error messages on the UPS were 1) Rectifier Fault and 2) DC Link Over Voltage.  I was able to restore power to the rack by pressing the power button several times on the UPS. 

We have tested the UPS by turning off the circuit breaker to the UPS to ensure that the UPS kicks in automatically and it did.  We can't figure out why it failed that last time...

Do you know what these error messages mean?  Is there a way to check the logs on the UPS?

Old Dell Firmware

I am looking for a repository of Dell firmware, primarily old network firmware. I have an M600 and several other models of M1000e blade servers that have very old firmware on them. I would like to upgrade the firmware, but not to the latest revision. My M600 (as well as many other models) is in spare stock to support a customer. The customer has datacenter guidelines set forth by their management to do firmware upgrades when they see fit. As a result, I cannot install just any version I would like, Although I would like the customer to be at the latest rev, it is a constant battle to get them to upgrade. This leaves me with the task of upgrading to a specific firmware revision on a specific blade. This takes place when a field replacement is necessary using a spare from our stock. I currently have an M600 blade with Broadcom BCM5708S Netxtreme II firmware revision, 3.5.12. I know that there are several revisions between this old revision and the newest, 7.8.16. My question is, where can I find a single website location that has all of the Broadcom network firmware avaialble from the earliest rev to the latest? At the Dell Support website, when I select M600, Drivers & Downloads, OS of RHEL5, Network (29 available), I am able to find rev 7.4.8 as the latest. There are no Previous Versions showing as available. (SUU 7.4.0 pertinent to the M600 shows 7.8.16 as the latest). I really do not want either of those. I know there are revisions 4.x.x, 5.x.x, and 6.x.x somewhere, but they cannot be found through selecting Previous Versions. I have found 7.8.16 on the Dell Support website, but can only get back as far as 7.0.48, A00 by looking for Previous Versions. Can someone tell me where allof the Broadcom network firmware versions are?

E171F PCIe fatal error on R710

I have two PowerEdge R710 servers, bought in 2010. The first one came up with an error message about a year ago, and today, the other one went down with the exact same error.

E171F PCIe fatal error on Bus 0 Device 4 Function 0.

On the first occation, I found descriptions telling me to shut down the server, drain the power, and remove/reinstall all the add in cards. This did not help at all on the first server, and I haven't bothered doing it on the second one. There is obviously a severe weakness on these servers. Can anyone tell me which component this refers to, so I may replace it?
