PE 6850 - 667 and 800MHz components mixed - System Halted

I'm receiving the 667 and 800MHz components mixed - System Halted message on boot.  This is on a unit with the motherboard, CPU and RAM card upgraded to support 800MHz, or so I thought.  Before the motherboard swap the system ran.

Memory is 2GB PC2-3200R-333-11-J1 400MHz DDR2 from the same manufacturer.  Memory is installed in slots 1A and 1B on memory board 1 and 2 for a total of 8gb.  At 16gb with slots 2A and 2B installed it gives the same error.  I've tried swapping to other RAM, but same error.

CPU is a single 7140M 3400MP/16M/800.  I can go 2xCPU, but it gives the same error.  Both CPUs give the same error when installed alone or together.

I've tried having the RAID RAM and RAID KEY removed, but same error.

I've tried clearing the NVRAM, but same error.

I've tried removing the VRM modules for CPU3 & 4, but same error.

The memory cards support 667/800MHz FSB.

I'm not clear on where the part number for the memory card or motherboard is, but I'd be happy to supply it if you can tell me where to find it.  They were both purchased on the understanding that they supported 800MHz operation.

I've tried leaving the machine unplugged for an hour, but no change.

No other cards are installed except the RAID RAM and RAID Key.  I'm using SCSI.

My first thought is I'm not using the correct memory for 800MHz FSB.  The 333 in PC2-3200R-333-11-J1 doesn't scream 400 or 800MHz in quite the way I'd like it to, but if this isn't the right memory, what should I be using?

When I turn the machine on the screen stays blank for several seconds, then shows the DELL start page for several seconds, then shows the press F2 or F10 options, then clears and shows 667 and 800MHz components mixed - system halted.

How to identify the internal system disk to replace ?

Hello,

Probably an easy question but I could not find the answer in the doc I looked at.

We have a faulty system disk on one of our Power Edge 510. I got a replacement disk but I would like to know for sure which disk to replace (the top or bottom disk in the internal bay) .

The open manage disk tool says that disk  0:0:13 is faulty. We have the 12 HDD configuration (so a total of 14 disks : 12 data disks and 2 system disks controlled with the PERC ).  Disk 0:0:13 would therefore be the last disk. When I open the server, will it be obvious to know whether disk 0:0:13 is the top or the bottom drive in the internal bay ?

Thanks

Gilbert

Hello! Last week a customer reported that their M1000 chassis fans are running much faster than normal. They has issues with their HVAC system, but has been fixed and the ambient room temp is 18 degrees Celsius.

There are no alarms or anything related in the log files they report. Chassis firmware is at 5.0

The chassis has a mix of 11 PE610 and 600 servers.

I am not sure where to start troubleshooting this issue. Any advice would be appreciated!

Guys, I have a PE SC1425 that's not showing any mac addresses on integrated nic1 & 2. (shows a not present). So obviously when it boots into windows no nic ports are picked up in device manager (windows). I fitted another system board and this still has the same problem. am I missing something or does it look like another faulty system board. Booted up into Dell livecd and this doesn't detect any network ports.

BMC communication failure on poweredge 2950

Good Day,

I have a PowerEdge 2950 server that has been down for 6months, just booted it up today and i'm getting the following error at post "Baseboard Management Controller Communication Failure".

I can still boot into the server, but my fans are spinning out of control and generating some serious noise. I checked under the Open Manage Server Administrator and i'm not seeing my fans at all.

Just wondering if anyone encountered this problem and what solutions they used to rectify this problem

Thanks in advance

How to Update the BIOS in a PowerEdge 2900

$

I purchased a surplus PowerEdge 2900 from EBay a couple of years ago.  It is running Windows Server 2008 R2.  When I open the Open Manage Server Administrator (OSA), it shows "unknown" for the server type in upper left (whereas my other PE 2900 shows "PowerEdge 2900") and it shows BIOS version "unknown" with date 01/01/2000 (whereas my other PE 2900 shows "2.6.1" with date 04/20/2009).

My question is, what is the procedure to update the BIOS in the erroneous system?

How to Fix Battery Failed in PERC 5/I in a PowerEdge 2900

I have a PowerEdge 2900 running Windows Server 2008 R2.  In the OPenManage Server Administrator (OSA) it shows that the battery on the PERC 5/I is in a state of "Failed."  What can I do to correct this problem/error?  I find that the only operations available from the OSA is "Start Learn Cycle."  Will running that help?  Thanks for any help.

Dell t620 showing PS1 PG Fail

On our  new T620, I'm seeing an amber light blinking on the back of the server and a

"VLT0204 System PS1 PG PowerEdge T720 Fail voltage is outside of range" message on the display on the front.

In OpenManage, everything is green except System -> Main System Chassis -> Voltages, it lists a Bad reading and a "System Board PS1 PG Fail".  This would be power supply #1, right?  Not totally sure where to go from here, is there another way to test for a failing/bad PSU before I request a replacement?   Any advice appreciated, thanks.

My PowerEdge SC430 has been running 2008R2 in a test lab for several years. I attempted 2012R2 and cannot get past the setup. Has anyone been able to load this OS on the 430?

A harddisk failure in a RAID setup with sufficient redundancy crash the whole system?

Usually, when a harddisk fail on the RAID 5 configuration, the system should not be affected at all right?

My experience is that whenever there is a dying harddisk, the system will crash and I can't even boot up unless I remove the failed drive. Is this due to the RAID controller buggy firmware or the physical drive is consuming too much power that the motherboard cannot handle?

My server is Dell R710 and the RAID controller is MegaRAID SAS version 12.3.0-0032 and I found this: http://virtuallybright.com/2013/01/31/esxi-5-1-megaraid-sas-alert/

Dell PowerEdge VRTX / M520 - Linux support for Shared PERC 8 controller when?

$

Hi there,

In September 2013 I bought a Dell VRTX + 3x M520 after having been sold the idea.

What I hadn't at the time realized was that it did not support Linux which came as a shock because I had already purchased Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization subscriptions and these simply did not work because the Shared PERC 8 controller was not being detected meaning the shared storage was not available to the RHEV Hosts.

As a temporary workarround, after having been told that Linux support would be available soon, I set-up VMWare ESXi on one host running a VM that shared the storage over to two other hosts running RHEV and under a supported method.

This workarround has work thus far but at this point I am starting to wonder if Linux support will ever be added. I am now reverting to this forum to ask a simple a straightforwad question, when (if at all) will Linux support be added to the VRTX/M520 servers?

Sincerely,

Dell Tower 1920W UPS T610 Server

I have a T610 Server protected by a Dell Tower 1920W UPS.  It first had a 'Service Battery' new batteries were installed, now it has 'Charger Failure'.  Documentation states it may be caused by one of the two 30 Amp fuses, but there is no reference as to where these are located.  The latest software has been installed on the UPS (01.14.0003), which was supposed to address this issue.  Anyone have any ideas?

BIOS v1.3.0

Started to receive message on post of remote server, after RAC setup option prompt.  Checked the BIOS and there is no option for bypass. Checked Utility and Boot menus - same.  In BIOS - made sure that all unused SATA ports were not enabled.  If F1 is pressed, system boots up normally.  No new hardware installed.  Wondering if system board battery is going or BIOS update (PowerEdge T300 BIOS Version 1.5.2) will have option on the F1 / F2 prompt. Thoughts?
