Different sized hard drives in Dell 2950

Hi Folks, just a very basic question -  is it possible to have (2 x 100GB HD - in RAID 1) and (1 x 1TB HD - Standalone) in 2950?

When I installed Vmware ESXi 5.1 on RAID 1 partition; the 1TB disk was not present. I have just now added 1TB disk for extra storage but its not visible to ESXi. Do you have any idea why this could be happening?

Thanks!

Is there any detail setup guideline for enabling the DPAT on R620 servers?

I have followed the Guideline below to setup the DPAT, but it seems the freq (cpuinfo) in the OS still no change.

Hello, could anyone suggest or recommend a PCI E-Sata card which is confirmed to  work with a Dell PowerEdge R620 rack server.

I have tried 2 cards, a card model with worked with a PE210 and also a different card which was recommended by Dell and confirmed working on a PE610 but I am getting PCI training errors when trying those same cards on a PE620.

R720xd noise level

Hello,  I have several R715's and R515's all AMD servers.  They run great and the noise level is minimum.

We recently purchased our first Intel servers, two R720xd's.  We went with this model only because of the chassis configuration allowing many more hard drives.

The units are working but extremely noisy.  When our other servers first turn on, the fans make a really loud noise like a jet is taking off.  Well the R720xd sounds like that ALL THE TIME.  Is this the normal noise level for this server?  We have a closed server room with metal door and it can still be heard from outside the room.  Had I known this model was so noisy, I wouldn't of purchased it.  Dell needs to start publishing noise levels if not already.

Good Morning...

I have a Dell R910 that starts booting then stalls. the LCD display says "System Booting" but doesn't proceed beyond this point. If I press the power button shutting it off, then repress the power button turning it back on, it will boot correctly. I don't recall but it believe this behavior started when I updated to the latest BIOS a while back. Any ideas out there?

Thanks,

Randy

Way to automatically shut down my 2950?

I have a Dell 2950 running Windows XP Pro SP3.

I have three 75Gb drives running as a Raid 0 and a fourth drive as my C drive. At the end of my work day
I need to move the video files from the raid to an external USB drive and then power down the 2950 to
conserve power.

Right now I'm having to come back to my office at night on order to do this.

Is there a way to set the system to shut down automatically after a certain period of time... say in 4 hours or at 9:00PM?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

R300 Will not power on

Hello everyone,

I have a PE R300 server that just will not power on.  There are absolutely no power lights lit anywhere.  Not even on the dual power supplies.  Things I have done are:

1. Plugged both power supplies into different power sources with new cables.

2. Removed both power supplies and swapped slots.

3. Removed both power supplies and only plugged one at a time into the left slot.

4. Plugged a power cable into each power supply while it is not inserted into server.  NOTE:  The power connected light on the power supply will come on and stay on.

5. removed and reinserted battery (after removed about 5 minutes) on main board.  Figured it could not hurt 8).

6. With case obviously opened now, I could not smell anything burnt and a quick visual also performed without seeing anything obvious.

I am starting to think that perhaps the power supplies are fine.  Really, what are the chances that both would go bad at the same time?  Also, thinking that perhaps the power distribution board could be the culprit.  And before it comes up, the server is out of warranty and the organization failed to renew the contract last fall.

I guess what I am hoping for is that somebody could point me in the direction of something more to test other than ordering a replacement PDB.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I am looking to upgrade the CPU in this machine. I am going to get two of the the same code. What is the best CPU I can put in this server?

All hardware firmware, bios and updates are current. I want to put the fastest CPU that is compatible for this Dell NX642 motherboard. Also, I am looking to upgrade the memory. Can anyone recommend any memory configurations that work well for this system.

This system is also capable of Dual GB teamed ethernet via broadcom netxtreme ii 5708 gigabit ethernet nic. Is it worth setting this up? Right now the previous IT company that is managing this network left the second port unplugged. I would assume that they wanted to make the best from their set-up. Is it beneficial to have the teaming set-up? How much faster is it?

I have the KU482 8 port SAS/Sata Backplane

I would like to know what my Hard Drive Max storage/device/connections? I know I have 8 connectors.

iDRAC Web Management Broken

I have a Dell R710 running Server 2012 R2. The iDRAC web portal is currently displaying the following:

The firmware is currently at1.96. I've attempted an racreset, but received the following error:

"ERROR: A firmware update is currently in progress. Unable to reset the RAC at this time."

I've restarted the server quite a few times as a result of this error with no success. As  thought I attempted to replace the firmware with the same version again, but the executable crashes with a generic: "bmcfwuw.exe has stopped working" even after a reboot.

What are my next steps? This server is remote so physical access is difficult at best.

uncorrectable ecc memory error

$

Hi

We have a T605 server (2009 vintage) running Windows Server 2003 that started crashing today.  The server has 2 quad-core opterons with 1GB ECC DIMMs in slots A1, A2, B1 and B2 (giving 4GB total, with 2GB "local" to each processor socket).

Loading the diagnostic utility showed an error message saying there was an uncorrectable ECC error affecting DIMM slots A1 & A2.

I first tried removing and then re-seating the memory sticks in DIMM slots A1 & A2.  This didn't work and the server crashed again when starting windows.

I then ran the memory diagnostic from the bios utility menu (express version).  The diagnostic completed without any errors, but the server again crashed when trying to boot into windows.

To see if the memory stick(s) themselves were the problem, I removed both DIMMs from slots A1 & A2, and took the DIMM from B2 and put it in A1.  The server again crashed on start up, and this time the logged error message said there was an ecc error affecting slot A1 only.

Finally, I put the DIMM from A1 back in B2 where it came from, and left all of socket A's memory slots unpopulated.  The server then booted in windows normally and has been up for several hours since.

So, it looks like the problem isn't the memory sticks themselves.  Maybe it's a motherboard issue, or even a memory controller problem on the processor.

Can anyone suggest what else might cause this problem, and what else I can do to troubleshoot?

Thanks.
