PowerEdge M610 Strike F1 to continue after remote access setup

Hi

Got a really weird issue here

Just rebooted one of my blades and every time it go though post it halts after the remote access configuration with "Strike F1 to continue, F2 to configure".

I know this could be because a misconfigured BIOS, but I cannot see any issues. Any ideas or pointers on where I should check?

PowerEdge T110 Continuously Reboots

Our PowerEdge T110 has been running flawlessly and everything was fine.

Earlier today, I was searching the Dell website and noticed that there was a security notice, and there was an "urgent" PowerEdge T110 BMC 1.92 Firmware update.  (Critical Security Update BMC firmware 1.92, A00)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/g60sowuf1m1yb2v/Screenshot%202014-01-29%2019.30.60.png

We downloaded the files from the Dell website here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/GetDriver/OtherFileFormats/Product/poweredge-t110?driverId=G03FR&FileId=3076002098&osCode=W12R2

We selected the driver files we would like to download here:

 https://www.dropbox.com/s/i1ycxr7k30mpv6z/Screenshot%202014-01-29%2019.31.23.png

The installation instructions seemed pretty simple:

Installation Instructions

1. Click Download Now to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save to save the file to your hard drive.

Installation
1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
2. Read over the release information presented in the dialog window.
3. Download and install any prerequisites identified in the dialog window before proceeding.
4. Click the Install button.
5. Follow the remaining prompts to perform the update.

We followed the instructions, and then after the download completed, we ran the program/update package (on Windows Server 2012 R2), and it said that it completed successfully and the system needed to reboot.

After the system rebooted, the Dell splash screen (with BIOS version) comes back up then it shows the BMC version as 1.30.05 (not the 1.92 updated BMC version which supposedly was the update) and now the computer continuously reboots.

It seems that something went wrong with the BMC firmware update, the BMC firmware was not properly updated to 1.92, and instead our Dell PowerEdge T110 now just continuously reboots now.

Is this a bad firmware/security update?  Any ideas as to how this can be fixed?

Is there a way to rollback the BMC firmware update back to the previous version?  Or a way to fix/get the system to boot normally?

Open Manage Server Administrator running on ESXi Free

I have a test server running ESXi 5.1 free, I also have an Open Manage server running.

I've followed these steps to get OMSA running on the ESXi host.

I've verified that the UserVars.CIMvmw_OpenManageProviderEnabled value is set to 1.

But I cannot manage the server with OME at this point it just shows up as a server running with SNMP.

I've done an esxcli network ip connection list on the server and nothing is listening on port 1311.

Poweredge T20 CPU compatability

Hello everyone, I have a Xeon E3-1275v3 processor sitting on my desk left over from another project.  I got to thinking that I could use it for a home office server of some sort.  I see the Poweredge T20 supports up to the Xeon E3-1225v3 so would it be feasible to order one of these and use my CPU in it?  I'm pretty unfamiliar with Dell and wanted to make sure there were no artificial limitations preventing this idea form working.  the TDP is the same on these CPUs (84 watts) so I would think it should drop right in.

Thanks in advance,

Zach

Help to Find Dell Part Numbers

I really struggle to find the correct part numbers for Dell servers, i often have clients asking for replacement memory, hard drives etc for dell servers and i spend around 40-60 mins searching Google/Dell for the correct part numbers.

HP is a piece of cake - simply type the server model number in Google followed by quick specs (e.g. 'Ml350 G8 quick specs') and the technical specification file is downloadable which contains all the part numbers for that particular server - as shown in this image

However how can i do the same for Dell as the technical manuals only specify that the server is compatible with 16GB of memory but doesn't contain the part numbers for the memory.

When i call one of my suppliers they refer to build sheets and find the part numbers within 30 seconds Indifferent

Hello,
I got couple of Poweredge 1950 machines intended to use on low ended stuff, i searched the web and found Ubuntu Server 10.x
Is "Certified" to use on Poweredge 1950 after downloading, Ubuntu doesn't  seem to recognize the dual NIC. i can only find Eth0
I have added eth1 configuration on /etc/network/interfaces and after the restart i get "can't bring up eth1"

with lspci | grep -i i only get 1
05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit ethernet rev(12)

So why my Ubuntu not detecting both ports?

Thanks in advance!

In what increments can the number of cores be limited on an R720 server with 8 cores per processor

Hi,

We have an R720 server with 8 cores per processor. There is an option in Bios to limit the number of cores per processor. Does anyone know with what increments this could be limited? This may be needed for a certain application. We can't check the BIOS since this system is in production and it is not specified in the manuals..

My RAID 5 with 4 drives is running just fine. I want to connect an external drive to do backups. It has an esata interface which I have plugged into the back. It is not getting recognized even though the BIO sata settings are on ACHI and esata is set to Auto. I am running Windows 2012 R2.

Anything else I need to configure to get this drive recognized?

Thank you!

openmanage takes down eth0 on starting up

I just installed the latest openmanage on centos 6.5 (64bit) but it can happen on centos 5 too, on starting up openmanage disables eth0 taking the network offline. Restarting the network brings it back but that's not ideal as on a normal reboot the same will happen again.

These are dell R300 servers that it happens to, others are ok, any ideas on how to fix this?

PowerEdge 2950 hangs at POST after reporting memory or RAC

Hi all,

I have a 2950 I got used that was working great for about two weeks. I was copying a bunch of data to it overnight when it lost access to the drive. After that, it will not boot successfully, hanging during POST. The RAC works OK but the server won't boot. I've reset the NVRAM and removed/swapped memory and drives. I will not be in front of it for a few days, but I'd appreciate any tips you might have.

Thanks,

J

We have just bought a Poweredge R210 II.  We wish to put a soundcard in but it's the wrong type of PCI riser.  The same cards fitted in servers we bought only a couple of months back.  Does anyone know what has changed and when and if we can fit a new riser board.

I would like to lower the upper threshold setting.

Thank you very much!

R210 II and H200A

Hi,

Updated the firmware for the H200A in an R210 II using OME. Now it won't boot.

OME said version 7.3.5 was installed, installed firmware using OME, but at boot it's now reporting mpt2bios-7.11.10, spends ages initializing and then shows fault 11h and press any key.

Pressing any key continues onto Dell splash screen (BIOS 2.6.1) but the it just hangs there. Boot menus show (F10, etc), but then just stays on splash screen and won't continue. Drive 2 is lit up in green on the front.

If I remove the card, boot continues fine. How can I fix the card?

Thanks.

Poweredge T110 - how to disable DRAC ?

$

I have several new T110 PEs that I am putting in service. They all pause for about 2 minutes on boot at "Initializing Remote Access Controller". I do not want / need DRAC support on these boxes. I looked in the CMOS settings, DRAC settings, and booted from the system management DVD and can't find anyway to disable the DRAC to make the machine not pause with every boot.

How do disable the DRAC so the machines boot right up?

Failing that, can I remove the DRAC?

Failing all else, can I set something to make it initialize quickly?

Thanks!

Dell R720 & ESXi 4.1 U2

All -

I don't churn servers very often here and this being my first 12G server -- just curious on ways the collective have updated software/firmware on these servers knowing it will be used for ESXi 4.1 ?

Is there an all-in-one ISO update DVD/ISO that you have attached, updated then ran the ESX install ? Or do you update everything after the ESX install ? I don't have the local repository of updates on my LAN, which would be nice.

Also, to my understanding ESX 4.1 doesn't support UEFI, can anyone confirm ?

Best,
