Hello ..

I have Poweredge R410 Server with one Xeon CPU and the bios version is 1.9.0 .. some members mentioned here that one Slot can take up  16GB RAM from BIOS version 1.1.5 ,

if this right I need to know if I can do this with one CPU and what type of memory shall I use .. in brief I want to fill 4 DIMMS with 64GB of RAMS .

so my questions is :

1- can I use 64GB of RAM with one CPU in just 4 DIMMS .. BTW my BIOS version is 1.9.0 ?

2- what type of RAMS shalld I use and what Model and ?

please I need help as soon as possible because I will proceed with the purchase  tomorrow from a reseller in my country and if I got wrong Type of memory I won't be able to replace them !

Thanks in Advance

M1000e where to start?

Hi,

We received our first blade M1000e with two 10/40 Force switch, four servers M420 and a PS-M4110e storage enclosure. There are lots to configure, is there some advice where to start and in which order to configure the devices. The Blade will be used for VMware environment. Some best practice guidelines would be great.

I have already a lot of experience how to configure PowerEdge servers.

Thanks,

My existing memories are  2 units of 2 GB (2Rx8 PC3-10600R-9-10-BO) and located on slot  A2 and A3. I want to add 2 more memories they are 8 Gb (KTD-PE313E/8GB) so I hope my total Memories are 20 Gb ((2x 2 Gb)+(2x8 Gb) ). But I have the problems of installing the memories there are always and error while system start up (memori configuration fail). Please tell me how to solve it out, where slot should I use for my new 2x8 gb memories..

Thanks,

R610 Server auto reboot issues

We're having frustrating problems with 2 of our R610's auto-rebooting on us (our new Exchange 2010 servers, which makes the problem worse)

One in particular (recently rebooted 4/14,4/20,4/27,4/29,5/05 & 5/23.

We replaced the system board & risers on 5/05.  I have upgraded the bios to ver 3 and the firmware to 1.7.  These are plugged into pdu's connected to a large ups and the other servers aren't having issues.

Event logs aren't helpful (previous reboot was unexpected-) I've sent dset's to Dell, as well as memory dump files.  These are boot-to-san servers so there are no local drives involved.  I see no related issues on our SAN and had our san vendor look at the logs with me.

I was hoping that the systemboard & firmware upgrade would make a difference.

Any good ideas?

thanks

iDRAC Web Management Broken

I have a Dell R710 running Server 2012 R2. The iDRAC web portal is currently displaying the following:

The firmware is currently at1.96. I've attempted an racreset, but received the following error:

"ERROR: A firmware update is currently in progress. Unable to reset the RAC at this time."

I've restarted the server quite a few times as a result of this error with no success. As  thought I attempted to replace the firmware with the same version again, but the executable crashes with a generic: "bmcfwuw.exe has stopped working" even after a reboot.

What are my next steps? This server is remote so physical access is difficult at best.

PowerEdge T620 Intel Gigabit 2P I350 NIC just stops working - Ideas?

Several times in the past 4 days, one NIC I am using (of the two) on the Windows 2012 machine has just stopped working.  The NIC indicator lights are off.  I've tried unplugging/replugging the Cat-6 cable, different switches, etc, but it won't come alive without a reboot.  Any suggestions?  Nothing special going on the NIC.  I've turned off the any of the "power saving" options, but it has all the factory set defaults otherwise.  Server has been working fine for the prior 2 months otherwise.

hi,

When attempt to add RemoteFX Video Driver to an Hyper-V VM, on VM startup i receive a blocking error "insufficient resources..."

After two days of research, i realize that this error can be related to SLAT processor feature (EPT on Intel) ...

My processor is E5-2680 v2 that have EPT feature, but on R720 bios the only feature is Virtualization Enabled/Disabled.

Any help is very appreciated !!

Powerdege R710 memory question

Hi,

We have an poweredge R710 that has total of 16 GB memory (4x2 gb per 2 processors)

If I Understood it correclty We can remove all the current 8X2 GB memories and replace them with  SNPP9RN2C/8G memories for our Poweredge R710.

The current memories for each CPU is: 2X2 GB memory in the 2 of 3 memory module (closes to CPU).

question:

If we upgrade to 4X8 GB memories  ,should the 8 gb memory also be 2 for each memroy module? or we can put only 1 X 8 GB memory in the 2 of 3 memory module (closes to CPU). for each processor? or this is not so?

for example:

If I want to upgrade the memories to 32 GB for this server I must buy 4 X8GB and put 2 x 8 gb memory in the first and second memory module (closes to CPU) for CPU 1 and then 2 X 8 gb in the first and second module for the CPU 2, is this correct?

this is the current memory configuration in the server:

Yesterday I gracefully rebooted our PowerEdge T710 server to apply updates, unfortunately id did not come backup - today when I arrived the computer was on and sitting at prompt "The system halted because system power exceeds capacity." press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup. I booted the machine as per normal and looked at the OpenManger logs;

Both PSU seem to be running fine there are not amber lights on either to indicate a fault, and oddly in the logs PSU1 loses communication and come back then PSU2 loses communication and comes back. That machine has been working flawlessly that I hadn't even checked the logs.  The UPS reports no problem that the PSUs are plugged into and they are not on any kind of "Y" cable. Is this malfunctioning sensor?  a lot of what read seem to blame iDRAC or BMC firmware but if that were the case I'd assume it's get fixed.  Any ideas anyone?

PE T320 Hyper-V Guest latency fixed by BIOS update to Host

$

Twice now I have had the Exchange 2010 guest on my W2K8 Standard Server with Hyper-V suddenly suffer a massive amount of latency and become practically locked up out of the blue.  After hours of troubleshooting, rebooting, and researching - as a last-ditch effort I noticed that the BIOS was out of date.  I upgrade BIOS and then everything magically works again.

Anywhere from 2-4 months pass and rinse & repeat.

I'm going out on a limb here but I suspect that there's something about the system that gets flushed out during a bios update that is causing the problem, but I'm at a loss to determine what that is.  I want to proactively avoid having my customer's Exchange server fail, but it goes against my better judgment to apply BIOS updates proactively.  We've had the motherboard swapped out already due to a bad DRAC, and the problem keeps happening.

I could use some help in identifying what else I can do to prevent this from happening in the future.  TIA

Dell PE 1425 with A03 BIOS and XEON 7120M processor supportability !!!

Team,

This is my first post in to this community. Apologies if this was answered before.

I purchased 2 SC1425 systems which came with XEON 3000DP/2M/800 processor. I installed ESXi with no problem. Even though the processors are 64 Bit i cant run 64 BIT VM's on these servers due to the lack of VT on the CPU (http://ark.intel.com/products/27094/64-bit-Intel-Xeon-Processor-3_00E-GHz-2M-Cache-800-MHz-FSB).

This is a 604 Socket processor. So not i am thinking to order Xeon 7120M processors (http://ark.intel.com/products/27283/Intel-Xeon-Processor-7120M-4M-Cache-3_00-GHz-800-MHz-FSB?q=7120m) which is 604 Socket also.

All this is fine, but a question came up that would A03 bios from dell support VT even if the processor can support ?

Can you please confirm ? or has any one running esxi on PE sc1425 and running 64 bit VM's on top of this.

Really appreciate your response on this.

Thanks

"Transition to non-recoverable" machine check error

$

Hi. now iam using PowerEdge R815 with 4 AMD opteron 6272 processors.

I got a system event log with system halt as follows

Sensor ID : CPU Machine Chk (0xd)

Description : Transition to Non-recoverable

Entity ID : 34.1

Generator ID : 00b1

I want to know the error code for the machine check error which is described in AMD specification document (BKDG 15h)

As far as I know, if there is machine check error, I can get error code MCA status register (e.g. MC0 ~ MC6) after next warm reset.

But,  after warm reset, there was not any machine check error in the MCA status register(I make some linux device driver to read MCA status register)

the first question is that

am i correct about the procedure to get error message from AMD MCA ?

the second question is that

Then, how can i get the error code which cause the machine check error ?

the third question is that

What does "transition to non-recoverable" means ???

Thanks.

Dell t310 memory support

$

Hi All,

I came across a two spare memory modules that I would want to use in my t310. The t310 currently has two Kingston modules installed (KTD-PE310Q8/8G). My question is whether it would work to add two modules of this variety KVR1333D3E9S/8G to the configuration? A more detailed specification for the new modules is found here http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR1333D3E9S_8G.pdf .

I would really appreciate your input here!

Best regards,

Fredrik

Dell PowerEdge T410 and SR-IOV

$

We have a Dell PowerEdge T410 obviously from the 11th generation (No "II" on the Express Service Tag). We use this server as an Hyper-V host so we would love to see SR-IOV working. According to this document (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/w/wiki/3459.dell-supported-platforms-for-windows-server-2012-sr-iov-feature.aspx) there is no SR-IOV support for this server.

So why is there an SR-IOV option in the BIOS and Windows tells me that SR-IOV is enabled? Before you ask: SR-IOV is not working as expected. The Broadcom driver for our BCM 57810 NetExtreme II keeps complaining about malicious behaviour of the VM.

So my question is: Is SR-IOV possible or am I understanding something wrong?

iDRAC AD integration certificate issues

$

Hi,

I look after several Dell servers that all have iDRACs in them. (iDRAC 6 and 7 Enterprise)

I've gone through and configured some of them for AD integration, using the standard schema method.

When I run the "Test Active Directory Settings" on a DRAC, all tests are passed until the certificate validation test is run.

All of the DRACs seem to fail on this test, as well as the user authentication test.

Certificate wise, the root CA's certificate has been uploaded to each DRAC, but I have not changed the default self signed SSL certificate for each DRAC.

The exact error I get is:

ERROR: Can't contact LDAP server, error:0D0C50C7:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_item_verify:unknown signature algorithm:
   Please check the following things:
   - the correct Certificate Authority (CA) certificate has been uploaded to iDRAC
   - the iDRAC date is within the valid period of the directory server and CA certificates
   - the LDAP server address configured in iDRAC matches the subject of the directory server certificate
user=username@domain, host="domaincontroller.domain"

Has anyone seen this error before, or have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot it?

Thanks!
