Besides putting it on a shelf, what are my options for converting a T410 to rackmount? Is there a conversion kit? Can I move the components to an R410/510/610/710 chassis? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dell R710 Intel network card installation
Hi all,
I have a problem with Dell R710. Originally it came with Broadcom network cards, but we have to add Intel. We've replaced it with Intel I350T2BLK, but I can't use it - no traffic. In the OpenManage we can see:
"eth6" NIC details are odd as well:
There is Citrix XenServer 5.5 OS.
Operating System | XenServer |
Operating System Version | 5.5.0-25727p-01 Kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5.xs5.5.0.505.1024xen (i686) |
Please advise what is wrong with new network card and how to fix it?
Thanks,

Poweredge 1950 Power Supply Question
I have some older Poweredge 1950s that run with a single power supply unit installed.
After many years of operation, the servers may not power up. I look at the LEDs on the power supply unit and they are off. There are two possible scenarios.
1. I take the problem power supply unit out of the server and plug it into a good working slot of a different server and if it doesn't work... it tells me the power supply unit has failed. I have to buy a new power supply unit.
2. I take the problem power supply unit out of the slot of the server and put it into the other (empty) slot and the server works again. I can continue to run the system.
My question is... in this second scenario, am I correct in assuming that there is a failure of the motherboard on the first power supply slot and in the future, if the second power supply slot fails in the same way... I will have to buy a new motherboard to get the server working again?
Thanks for any ideas!

Few more questions about the c6100
With the looming anticipation of the server arriving, I am looking into several secondary factors.
1: I read that the approximate dB of this server sits around 70 dB, Any suggestions as to dampening it without removing performance?
2: I stumbled upon an article that spoke of mineral oil cooling. Since this server is already out of warranty, do you have any topics as far as dell goes on researching the application of, or any personal thoughts on the issue? I see a lot of good reviews/studies from enthusiasts. This would solve a cooling and sound related issues.
3: I read on another post that a user stated SSD worked for him. My retailer stated that they will not. Who is right? What would I need to do to get them to work?
~Thanks again, Tony
Wireless Card
Hello everybody,
I had a spare wireless card - TL-WDN3800 (from TP-Link with a Atheros chip) kicking around so I popped it into my server (T320 12G).
The problem is that Lifecycle does not see the card so my host OS (ESXi 5.1) cannot pass it to any guest OSs.
Are there any drivers I can use? I cannot find anything, it might because I am useless at locating stuff, don't know...
Any help is very much appreciated!

PowerEdge T605 rebuild memory issue
rebuilding our t605, installing Windows server 2012, upgrading from 8GB of ram to 16GB. Server would not boot, added back the original 8Gb, server boots, but BIOS only recognizes 8Gb, OS shows 24Gb installed 7.99 available.
OEM replacement memory modules, system specific, hardware and software compatible. Bios is up to date with latest version, all drivers updated...I am on my way to get a bigger hammer, unless there is something I am missing somewhere...any thoughts???
PowerEdge R410 replacement motherboard contains malware?!
I just got a telephone call from a service scheduler informing me that the replacement R410 motherboard I received several weeks ago contains spyware in its embedded systems management firmware, and wanting to schedule an additional service call for a tech to come clean it off.
Unfortunately since the person calling was non-technical, she was unable to provide a lot of details. But I do believe the call to be legitimate as she had the service tag of one of my systems which did indeed receive a motherboard replacement recently.
Does Dell have an official article documenting this issue and laying out further details and the potential risks? Obviously it causes me grave concern be informed of a vulnerability but not have all of the technical details, especially when they asked to be able to schedule the service call to resolve the issue at least ten business days in the future.
PowerEdge T110 II boots to WinPE
Hello, server novice here.
I have a Dell PowerEdge T110 II server running Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. Today I created a new user, and installed a few Windows Updates. Once the updates were installed I was asked to restart.
Unfortunately the server has now suddenly stopped booting to Windows SBS, and now only boots to WinPE (from what I can make out?!). Once in WinPE, a cmd screen opens, and a script runs (from an X: drive?) which asks for the username and password of my router (Netgear). I try entering the login details for my router, but the script just fails and results in the cmd screen flashing red/black intermittently with the Service Tag shown in large letters. The only option I get after this is to press 's' for a shutdown.
I have no idea how to get it to boot back into Windows SBS! Its driving me crazy!! Can anybody give me some advice on how to resolve this please?
Thanks in advance.
Dell KVM Poweredge 2162DS - No Power status from SIPS?
Hello,
I just got this brand new from Dell a few weeks ago, set it up and mgrated some of my systems over.
Within a week of actually using it I'm getting No Power status from the SIPS.
It didn't matter what it was, USB or PS/2 it happened on either one. I have the latest firmware on the SIPS and KVM and the only way it seems to resolve the issue was to unplug or powering down the PC system for a 10 seconds or more then power it back on. Good thing I have a remote switched rack PDU or I'd be pissed because I work remotely most of the time.
Can someone explain why I would get a No Power status when according to the documentation the power is coming from the KVM? I have both power plugs connected. If the SIPS are receiving power from the KVM, why does only USB SIPS miss the POST where as PS/2 SIPS do not.
The systems I attached on there are rebooted more often because I have at least 7 models of Dell Optiplexes and Latitudes that we use for our production environment for image testing. I don't use it every day but when I am testing new images then they would.
According to the Dell rep they said this usage would fine.
Any insight on how to not get these errors would be appreciated.
Thanks!
T620 build question
Hello everyone,
I'm on the verge of ordering a T620 server and got some question on the build options, would appreciate some feedback/guidance :-)
1) I want a tower config with the option of going to rack when I move to a new office next year probably. I know that officially, there's no conversion kit available, but it's mostly about the switched placement of lcd screen and front vga port that I won't need. Aside from that, is there anything else holding me back from just removing the feet and placing the chassis in the Dell casters?
2) Also, I'm on the fence about going for iDRAC7 Enterprise. Ideally, I'd like to give the free tryout a chance before deciding, but the "help me choose" subpage isn't clear if I'd loose the dedicated NIC and Vflash in the chassis?
3) This might belong more in the storage forum, but while we're at it, can anyone tell me what I need for a JBOD setup right out of the box? I want to use my own SSDs (Samsung 840 pro or Intel 530 probably), don't care too much about the "enterprise" label.
R620 - Cannot set System Host Name - there is no way to input this?!
We got some R620s in, and are having some BIOS/iDRAC issues - specifically no defined host name... it seems it cannot be set anywhere...
I can set the iDRAC name, but the system name is different and seems to have no interface anywhere to set it.
I spent two hours looking in BIOS, Lifecycle, and in iDRAC settings. Nothing... Even reset the iDRAC, lost all my configs, still no change or prompt.
As a side note, OS Info is missing even though Server 2008 R2 is installed. Where on Earth do these values get set?

I'm using iDRAC Enterprise 6 on Server 2012.
When I connect to the virtual console using IE10 on Server 2012, no keyboard input is passed.
I can send macros and mount virtual media, just no keyboard input is passed.
Updated BIOS to 1.12.0 and iDRAC firmware to 1.95 (Build 05) and still not working.
I am using the Native Plug-in Type and cannot use nor install Java nor any other browser on this server.
Amber system status indicator blinking - PowerEdge 850
Hi!
We have got a Dell PowerEdge 850 running FreeBSD 9 OS. We found that the Amber system status indicator is blinking.
We checked the user manual which says press the System Indication Button on such event, with no further details, except the light will change to Blue. When I pressed the button, I did not see any useful information on the monitor or elsewhere so the problematic hardware could be located.
There is no useful information on the manual about how the "System Management Software" could be used in this case.
Is that software platform dependent?
Any useful clues to locate the faulty hardware??
