SNMP Traps- (Windows 2012R2, OMSA 8.5)

Hi,

Using an m620 as an example, if an SNMP Trap destination is configured in the DRAC settings, why when viewing OMSA (Server Module/Alert Management/SNMP Traps)  does it say:

Instructions: No SNMP trap destination is available.

Is there no correlation between OMSA and what information is in the DRAC settings?

Thx

PowerEdge T410 server won't turn on but power supply LED and fan turn on when pushed and a green LED can be seen inside the chassis from the rear

On 4-21-17, there was a planned electrical shutdown in the building so I shut down the PowerEdge T410 server but I didn't disconnect the power cord from the surge protector.

On 4-23-17, it won't turn on.  I can see a green LED from the rear of the chassis.

The rear power supply button turns on the fan and lights the green LED.

Any suggestions?

Dell VRTX - Specific Nodes Required?

$

Hi,

In researching the Dell VRTX and reading the owner's manual a bit I realized that in the section that talks about installing Dell M620 nodes it states that you need to look for the PCIe sticker on the node to "verify" it's a VRTX compatible node...however I've never actually seen an M620 with such a sticker. The manual then goes on to state that nodes that are "not configured for use with the Dell VRTX enclosure" will display an error message.

The manual states "for more information on configuring a server module for the enclosure, see the VRTX Owner's Manual".  But doesn't actually have any info on this. I am wondering does it mean any M620 node can be configured to be used with the VRTX?

I am wondering is there still a weird 'limitation' on this chassis/enclosure regarding this PCIe/configuration stipulation or can any M620 work in the chassis?

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade the Intel Xeon E5-2407 (V1) cpu in a Dell T420.

Are the V2 and V3 versions of the E5-2400 series compatible?

Or do I have to stick to V1?

Thanks!

R710 memory expansion - No video

Hi All,

We have a customer attempting to expand memory in a PowerEdge R710 from 32GB to 64GB.  They used to have a mix of 8GB and 4GB DIMMs, but are now doing 16x 4GB DIMMs instead.  When they install the memory (in optimizer mode) in the correct slots, they get no video.  This appears to only happen when slots A7 & B7 are populated, which are the third/final slots of the first channel for each CPU.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue could be?  DIMMs in question are PC3-8500R 2Rx4.  Thanks!

T130 backwards compatibility

a while ago I attempted to install W2003 Server on a T130 with a Intel Xeon E3-1225 v5 3.3GHz, 8M cache, 4C/4T, turbo processor and perc raid1.  The install process choked and I chalked it up to "Old tech" and didn't question exactly why it wasn't allowed

That was Ok.

Now, in a different situation I would like to know why because I have a spare T130 (same setup) and a keep it around-legacy situation that requires W2003 Server.

Does anybody know what it is that causes the T130 to not be compatible with W2003?  Is there anything I can set in the BIOS etc. that will allow W2003 to install? (Preferably without losing the RAID1.     I remember some other Dell models with "legacy"(?)-like checkboxes  somewhere in the setup...

thanks for any help

Server OS Partitions (Fat32 OS 2GB Partition)

Does anyone know what the Fat32 OS Partition does that comes with Dell when you don't have a OS installed on the machine by default?

I am having a problem with setting up Windows Backup on two new servers 2016 due to their being a Fat32 OS partition that I never seen before.

Is it safe to convert them to NTFS? Mounting them shows nothing but wondering the purpose is. I search dell forums and found some older post about them but never really a answer why it is there or the reason behind it.

We used a Microsoft License center of 2016 and installed 2016 on two servers (identical models) and already deployed them as DC for two locations and when trying to realize their a "OS" partition is when we started having problems with Windows backups.

I know not to delete this partition but wondering if it safe to just convert them to NTFS.

How to calculate heat dissipated from a server?

Hello Everyone,

For any server configuration of your choice, how do you calculate the amount of heat dissipated from it in terms of BTU or Watts? For example, if a server specifies 200 Watts as it's operating power, the how much of power is actually drawn and how much of power dissipates as heat?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Disable reboot after PCIe fatal error

Hello,

we are using a PowerEdge 730 with a custom FPGA card implementing a PCIe endpoint. For firmware development we'd like to reprogram the FPGA with a new firmware without going through a reboot, and use the card again after a rescan of PCIe (this procedure is used successfully on hosts from several other vendors).

However, as soon as the process of updating the FPGA firmware on the PowerEdge starts, the machine does a reboot. The system event log shows the following messages:

A bus fatal error was detected on a component at slot 4.
A fatal error was detected on a component at bus 128 device 2 function 0.
An OEM diagnostic event occurred.

Is there a way to avoid having the machine going through the reboot? What has to be disabled/enabled?

Best regards,

Racadm for DRAC Log file is full

Hi,

We sometimes get an alert from OME to tell us something is wrong with a server, but we don't know what. When we check, we find that the DRAC System Event Log File is full.

I see there is a racadm command to clear the log - clrsel

But, is there a way to tell when it is 90% full or around that level? (even a racadm command that can be run to check whether it is ~90%)?

(We have a mixture of m610, m620, R515, R820, R730xd, and m1000e's)

Thx,

John Bradshaw

IOPS of R410 and R510

I found the R/W speed of my PowerEdge R410 is very slow

And the PowerEdge R510 is fast than that

Does the RAID controller card is the main reason?

R410 with SAS 6/iR

R510 with PERC H700

If I want to increase the speed of R410, what should I do?
