dell r710 membist failure after esxi upgrade

so.. I just picked up a r710 from ebay and I got it running and tested some stuff al working great. I installed esxi 6.0 with the drivers from dell and I looked around for a bit and decided to upgrade to 6.5 by the ssh terminal.

After that finished I rebooted and man did it take long to boot. First I waited like 30 mins on the "booting eufi please wait" screen and then it got stuck for like 2 hours on the "Entering system services... Starting unified server configuration" screen and I decided to shut it down. After more atempts to get it working (didn't change anything) just trying to install another os i began getting ram errors "membist failure" and i got only 36GB ram left. Then I also saw it was only running at 800 mhz.

What is going on?!?! can somebody tell me wat to do?

Hi,

is it possible to equip Dell PowerEdge R720 with single double-slot-wide GPU (e.g. P5000)?

From the documentation it seems it is possible but I am not totally sure.

Thanks in advance,

Dell PowerEdge T20 - second hard drive disappears

Hello, we bought Dell PowerEdge T20 for our organization without HDDs. We bought two hard drives Western Digital Black 2 TB 3,5" (WD2003FZEX-00SRLA0) separately and installed them.

After that I created mirror raid via software RAID tool (CTRL+I on boot), installed Windows 10 Pro and everything seems to be OK. But after installation of the OS I dettached one of the drives, start the OS and shut down. Then I attached the 2nd HDD and the system started rebuild. In 1-2 hours I noticed that the HDD lamp stop blinking (the rebuild was finish) restart the PC and noticed missing 2nd HDD. The same scenario happens 2-3 times later. Only when I shut down system and power on again the BIOS recognize the second HDD.

I'm wondering what occurs this? Bad SATA cable or incompatible disk drive?

iDRAC offline on VMWare VMHost

We recently had an issue connecting to the iDRAC on our remote Dell PowerEdge R530 No ping / web access, and no MAC address resolution from a local device.

I installed the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) vib on VMWare ESXi 6.0 and could log into it and see the Remote Access configuration and MAC address associated with the iDRAC.

I've done a bit of reading about the racadm cli tool and the ability to reboot or reset the iDRAC to defaults, but what I couldn't find out was if there is any way to reboot the iDRAC remotely via OMSA. I can certainly change the configuration, but how do you reboot it from OMSA?

Dell PowerEdge R710 running Windows Server 2008r2 RAID Drive Warning Lights

This server's roll is Web Server (IIS). It has a RAID 5 configuration with 6 drive bays and 6 drives with this types of drives:

(0) SAS 300 GB 15k

(1) SAS 300 GB 15k

(2) SAS 300 GB 15k

(3) SAS 300 GB 15k

(4) SAS 600 GB 15k (This one is flashing Green then Amber) I have already replaced the drive and got the same Green then Amber warning after the replacement

(5) SAS 600 GB 15k

How do I determine what is wrong with this drive bay if replacing the drive doesn't resolve the problem.

Can anyone guide me to a diagnostic tool that may provide more detailed information on the problem?

Dell R900: Issues with Riser C and D

I have a Dell R900 with 4 risers of 32GB each. Initially, I found out that one of the risers had gone bad so I purchased a new one and also more memory. I can verify that each riser works in slots A and B. However, when I try with anything in D and C, I get an error that Riser D cannot pair/train with Riser C.

I can take the same two and place them in A and B without issue. So, it would appear that I have a system with only 2 good memory slots.

Any hints?

R620 - Intel I350 NIC 1 slower than the other three

Hi,

I'm running into an issue on the PE R620 and hopefully someone can provide an answer here.

I installed Windows 2012 R2 on R620 and when I was doing the Windows Update I noticed that it is really slow. After looking at the throughput, I noticed that the it is downloading at 20 kbps and that did not make any sense. So I unplugged the Ethernet cable from NIC1 and connected to NIC2. Of course, the download process started at normal speed.

I then plugged the Ethernet cable back to NIC1 and visit Dell website to download a firmware and I noticed that it was behaving the same.

Next, I decided to update both the Windows driver and the board firmware to the latest version (available on Dell). The update was successful but that did not resolve the issue. Also, Bios, Lifecycle controller and RAID controller were all updated to the latest version.

I then run Dell pre-boot system assessment and every single test passed. With that, I decided to order a new Intel I350. Got the board today, installed it and it is behaving the same. I re-installed the OS.. still the same thing.

Also, I came across few posts that talked about disabling "Large Send Offload V2" which I did, and rebooted the server. That did not help.

And finally, I took a different approach and booted the server using Ubuntu Live CD. and it worked OK... I managed to download files at 5 mbps.

So what can cause this? Why throughput on NIC1 does not exceed 20 kbps?

Thanks.

RACADM Syntax

Hi,

Trying to change the password on m1000e chassis for users from a putty session, logged in as root.

The following syntax is being used:

racadm set iDRAC.Users.<index>.Password <Password>

e.g.   racadm set idrac.users.4.password RABBIT

It comes back with: ERROR: SWC0244 : Invalid Fully Qualified Device Descriptor (FQDD).

If I use the "OLD" syntax:

racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminPassword -i 4 RABBIT

it works fine, with: Object value modified successfully

** Any ideas why the "NEW" syntax is not working? Seems OK for blade dracs, and stand-alones eg R820), but not chassis.

Thx,

John Bradshaw

Imbedded NIC has two IP addresses

Have a R320 idrac that is using DHCP.  (We aren't allowed to use static IP addresses for the idracs)

The physical imbedded NIC 1 mistakenly has two IP addresses assigned to it, for the idrac, from DHCP.  Perhaps as a result of a recent boot.

One IP address successfully replies to PING, the other doesn't.  Therefore, creating alerts for the failed IP.

Is there a way to maybe flush the DNS or release the second IP, without rebooting this idrac?

Hello all,

I am currently working on a PowerEdge R815. A few days ago the display showed a Storage Battery error, so I replace the Storage battery. The display went blue again with no errors. 24 hours later the same error was displayed again. I replaced the battery again and same thing happened again. I can't find much on this server or issue. Am I missing something?

How to use onboard SATA in Dell PE R415?

Hi there!

I have a Dell PowerEdge R415 rack server, the drives are currently connected trough the backplane to Dell Perc H200 raid card using a single cable.

I would like to use the onboard sata controller but how can I do that? Do I need a new backplane or a new special cable? :)

Thanks in advance!

S2D & Dell PowerEdge 730xd - BSOD Memory_management

I’m building a hyper converged 3 nodes Storage Spaces direct cluster with brand new Dell PowerEdge 730xd that comes with a Mellanox connectx-3 pro nic direct from Dell.
I have Attached the powershell script used for building this. Now to the problem, when I enable storagespacesdirect in my cluster, RDMA traffic is starting to flow, and I get expected performance when I running tests on my storage. So far so good, until I reboot any of my 3 nodes. I get blue screen with Memory_management and it just keep looping so I’m not able to access the server again. And before rebooting I’ve checked that no storage jobs is running and also drain roles from the node.
I have figured out that if set Cluster Service to manual and stop the service before rebooting, I can reboot the node without problem. And then start the cluster service when node is rebooted.
I have tested both the drivers that comes with Dell Driver OS Pack and Latest drivers from Mellanox (MLNX_VPI_WinOF-5_35_All_win2016_x64.exe) but with same result.

PERC H330 Missing on PowerEdge R230 after OS Guest Install

I recently took delivery of a Dell PowerEdge R230 and attempted, successfully, to install the Dell-customized image of VMWare ESXi 6.5 on it.

After installing ESXi, after several reboots, all seemed fine.

However, after installing two guests of Ubuntu Server 16.04.2, after I rebooted, the machine could not only no longer boot from the PERC H330 virtual disk volume, the machine cannot even find the PERC H330.

Is there a way to factory reset or do a PCI probe to get the machine to find and recognize the PERC H330 again and start from scratch?

Dell PowerEdge T11 II

Hello

Thank you for reading my post.

I have a Dell Power Edge T11 II

Rather a Basic setup – using SATA to boot to EXSI (no RAID or anything)

It’s been working for ages with no issues – until today

Switched my server off last night as I always do now it will not turn on. Will not turn on – nothing on the screen and no network – I think my power button maybe broken or maybe the motherboard.

The power button is not doing anything. I plug the main power cord in – a few seconds later I hear the fan – then nothing. I have a green power light – no warning error lights or bleeps. I have a green light on motherboard.

I have removed all devices apart from 1 memory sick and a hard drive – same issue

Since I cant boot the system up - I am not sure what to do

Anyone got any thoughts

please help me

Support of "Memory I/O larger than 4GB" and Phi

$

I recently purchased an Intel Xeon Phi (KNC), and want to purchase a used Dell server to experiment with it.  It is very difficult to determine which servers support BIOS configuration of "Memory I/O larger than 4GB".  Is there any Dell documentation that can help me with this?  Support for plugging in the extra power connectors would be good as well, ie. do any servers have headers that will let me plug in the two extra connectors directly via a cable.  None of my current Dell servers seem to support this feature.

Which NICs support RDMA (for R730)?

I am thinking about building a Storage Spaces Direct solution and understand that this works best with 10G RDMA capable NICs, but I am having a difficult time figuring out which NICs support it.

Going with S2D is probably a bit overkill in the first place, so I am looking for the least costly options.

Dell C6220 BMC Firmware & Bios Upgrade

$

Hi, I have a Dell c6220 3-node system. All the nodes are currently running Bios Firmware version 1.12 per the BMC web based Gui. Within this web based GUI there is a menu item called "update" and in that there is a dropdown for "firmware Type" which lists BMC, Bios & DC as the options.

I have tried to update the BMC by downloding the file from the Dell c6220 site for both Bios 2.14 & 2.53. I used the linux .bin file, the windows .exe file and the floppy .exe file but the update fails everytime saying the file is not compatible. Here are the links for the linux versions that I used

www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

Q1

If possible, could someone please confirm what would be the file that I would use in this section for updating the BMC & also the Bios?

I have searched online but everyone seems to describe loading linux or some other methods. I tried with that method also but it failed as well. I would much rather use the BMC Web based Gui as I have ESXi loaded on these nodes and do not want to load up a linux on it especially since I do not have physical access to the box.

Q2

Alternatively, is there any way to update the BMC and the Bios remotely via ssh or some ipmi utility that I can load in a VM and just have it point to the BMC ip address?

Thx
