Installing 6-4TB drives and setting up a raid 10 on this machine. I was told it was capable to do this. I was also told I would need a bios update for it to recognize the drives. Can you tell me what bios version I need and drive configuration. Also they want me to add more memory. What configuration will I need. it looks like they purchased 16gb sticks from Dell. Thank you,

Adding PERC 800 Card to Poweredge R310

I am needing to add this to my server.  Everytime I install the card and boot the server I tells me that I have lost my drives and won't boot.  I remove the card and server boots just fine.  I am not sure how to change the boot settings without loosing my raid and wiping my hard drives.  I need to keep it booting from the current controller.  This one is just to connect a SAN.

iDrac software was updated on a PE320 which failed and no the OS will no longer boot up. It will say iDrac initializing then fails to load OS . We do not use iDrac as we use Dell Open Manager. There no iDrac card as well. Any ideas as to how to reverse and boot up to the OS, running windows 2012 64bit.

remote racadm commands fail with "ERROR: Unable to obtain raid config" or "ERROR: Unable to connect to RAC at specified IP address."

When running remote racadm commands to an R730XD, it will intermittently/randomly fail with either "ERROR: Unable to obtain raid config" or "ERROR: Unable to connect to RAC at specified IP address."

To verify this I ran a script to call the same command over and over again, and it hits this error 6% of the time. This was the command I ran on repeat:

 racadm -r <ip_of_idrac> -u <username> -p <password> --nocertwarn raid get pdisks:Disk.Bay.6:Enclosure.Internal.0-1:RAID.Integrated.1-1 -p Hotspare

Here are version details:

 Bios Version                     = 2.1.7

 iDRAC Version                    = 2.30.30.30

 Lifecycle Controller Version     = 2.30.30.30

 IDSDM Version                    = 0.15

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Or, how I can go about debugging the issue.

Hello, I have a BLADE R420 HDS with two SAS and one of the hard drives were defective, got another HD SAS but not dell, but when I put the BLADE is listed as blocked.

If I put defective HD, I can build the HD, but if I put the new Dell says it is not as locked.

already performed the following steps
updated the firmware PERC H710 controller, drives and updated the firmware HD, when I entered the BIOS setup also demonstrates how locked.
Can someone help me ?

Poweredge C6220 Power Supply

My company just purchased two Poweredge C6220 SFF (4-Node) server racks. The 1400W power supplies that came with the servers require 200-240V input and we need power supplies that allow and input of 110V. In the owner's manual for this model, there is an option for a 1200W power supply that has an input range of 100-240V. If the input is 100-120V for this power supply the output is 1023W. This seems like this could cause issues. We are hoping to find a compatible power supply that takes an input of 100-120V and has an output of 1400W, but after a full day of looking for one online, I couldn't find anything.

Has anyone else run into this same situation and used the 1200W power supply? If so, did you have any issues? Also, if there are any alternative solutions, please let me know.

-Thanks

Hi @ all,

I've recently got this mb + accessories from a friend and I wanted to get this alive now. But in order to do so, I'd need some information about it. So i can get the right cpus

According to my friend, this mb supports socket 775 cpus, but according to the datasheet @ dell.com it supports socket 771 cpus. Now I'm a little confused about...

the model of the mb is: CN-0TM757-13740-74G-0278 REV A01

hope anyone can fill me in...

THX in advance!

Greetings from Germany

Benny

I just bought parts for my new old dell poweredge 2950 I put the dual xeon e5440s in it and it gives me a cpu mismatch so I take out cpu 1 and it boots just fine (I also put cpu 1 in to the other slot and it worked). When I just loaded in cpu 1 it would give me e1410 IERR i looked at the socket and 4 pins were bent moderately. So will bent pins cause this error.

Dell T20 and SR-IOV

$

Hi,

I have a Dell T20 with the Xeon processor; I'm generally very happy with it but I'm struggling to get SR-IOV working with my Intel 82576 Network cards. As far as I can tell, my system meets the requirements (IOMMU, VT-D, etc.) but on ESXi 6.0U2 I cannot get it to function. The only thing that seems to be "missing" is the global option to enable "SR-IOV" in the BIOS, which seems to be present in the higher-end Poweredge servers.

However, I've found a few references on the internet of customers using SR-IOV on Dell T20 with various flavours of Linux, so I don't think this a problem.

I have tried the Dell ESXi Image and the generic build, but continue to get "unavailable".  I am running latest BIOS, Firmware for my NICs (two variants) and have patched ESXi.

I realise what I'm asking is largely unsupported, but wanted to check that there was nothing fundamentally impossible in what I'm attempting.

Thanks in advance!

System board MTBF statistics? My R910 is getting it's 5th motherboard today.

Hi Guys,

Does Dell keep statistics on Mean Time Between Failures for their system boards?  I purchased this $30K machine back int 2012, and the system board has failed 4 times.  Most recently yesterday.  I cannot tell you now frustrating this is to have my most expensive server be also my most unreliable.  This machine was meant to be my rock-solid workhorse, and run almost the entire company.  It's embarrassing to say that rather than run critical processes on this R910 with ESXi 6.0 u2, I am using SuperMicro Pizza boxes running CENTOS with KVM.

Why do I have to do this?  In order to protect myself from making the same embarrassing decision in the future please tell me that there are failure statistics that I can have access to regarding the system boards.

In the meantime I will be running my SuperMicros and avoiding any new expensive Dell machines, even though my company officers still think Dell is a better product.

R815 : Non optimal memory configuration after upgrading from 2 CPUs to 4

$

Hi folks,

I have a few R815 servers that I've upgraded from 2 CPUs each to 4 CPUs each.   The servers have 256GB of RAM in the form of 16x16GB PC3L 12800R sticks.

After first seeing that message, I concluded that it was likely because I left the 16 sticks in slots A1-A8 and B1-B8, despite now having 4 CPUs.   However, after rearranging the sticks to be in A1-A4, B1-B4, C1-C4, and D1-D4, I still get the error on boot.

As a workaround for now, I've disabled the keyboard prompt on the error.  But I still assume that something isn't right.  The manual that I saw does indicate that A1-A4, B1-B4, C1-C4, and D1-D4 is the proper layout for a 4-CPU system, though the capacities seem dated.  (It only lists capacities of up to 8GB per stick)

Is it possible that my sticks need to be configured at 8 sticks per CPU?

Thanks!
