Upgrade Power Edge 520 mermory

Hi there. We currently have a 2 Power Edge 520 ESX. Each one has (DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 8GB, 1333, 2RX4, 8, 240, R, LOW VOLTAGE) X12 which comes to about 100Gig.

I want to upgrade these servers so that I have over 250 GIGS on each host. Please advise on which memory is available to perform this upgrade.

R720 Broadcom Slow Network Transfer Speeds

We bought a Poweredge R720 to replace our existing SQL server some time ago and I have never been able get it out of testing because it will not perform correctly.  I notice when I copy a large file to it the transfer rate is 100mbps (it should be 1000mbps) but after a 20 or 30 seconds of copying the transfer rate will drop to 10mbps or less, sometimes 0.  I have it plugged in to a Dell X1052 switch with 4 CAT6 cables.

When we try to use it as a SQL server it will run the jobs very fast but when it is time to transfer the results it slows to a crawl.

Sincerely,

Ben Putnam

R310 LCD SwapOut

Hi,

i wanted to ask if someone has ever shaped/repaired the LCD display on a Dell R310.

Mine is originally an R310 with LED front panel, and i wanted to upgrade the iDRAC, and read that the iDRAC worked best with an LCD front.

I have already replaced the PCB, but am hanging on shaping out the LED/LCD part. but i saw that the rack ears are mounted with 3 security screws, so if i take that off, will it expose the LED part? if so, expose it for replacement.

Thnx in advance

Poweredge 6850 fans but no power to unit

I know the 6850 is a very old model and there might not be any resources to support me here, but here goes.

I have a poweredge 6850 that a friend of mine has had for quite a while, but hasn't used for about 9 months. He's recently made more space in his room for his computer stuff and so wants to plug the poweredge back in (It's better than nothing, right?) He's not great with hardware, so he sent it over to me to give it a once-over, make sure everything's working, etc...

I put it together and powered it up, and it immediately powered itself down again, quoting misconfig on the LCD screen. I reseated the vital parts and powered it up once again, this time the error was cleared, the fans were running and I thought everything was ok to plug in monitor etc, then I noticed that none of the lights on the hard drives or on the memory risers were on. I tried the CD drive, and it wouldn't open, which left only one answer, no power.

There's no error message on the LCD screen, and both the green lights on the PSU are solid green, the amber warning light is not lit, and the fans are running fine.

However, neither of the system indicator lights are active, and there doesn't seem to be any power to the motherboard.

I've looked up this problem and it appears that several other people have had the exact same problem after long periods of inactivity. However, after running their unit at minimal config (min ram, 1 processor, no drives, 1 PSU) and reseating everything, it started working again, alas, not for me. I've also tried moving the NVRAM jumper, but to no avail.

Is there another solution? Is there something I need to reseat that I'm forgetting about?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

PE T320 - iDRAC communication failure.

I'm at my wits end...

The server hangs on every reboot with an iDRAC failure.

I have replaced the DRAC card, and the problem persists.

I cannot do a reset on the DRAC, as nothing sees it.

I have tried pressing the i on the front chassis for 15 seconds, it does not help.

I have removed all power, and held power button, it does not help.

I think that the problem may be my motherboard.

My motherboard BIOS is 1.4.2, but I am unable to update it.

When I download any of the 2.x motherboard BIOS's I get a warning that packaged BIOS updates are not supported on this system.

I've booted into WindowsPE, but cannot run the BIOS update from there either.

I need to know how to get this motherboard to see my DRAC card, and stop these stupid errors on boot.

Updating m710HD Nics fail

Hi,

I am trying to update the nic f/ware on several m710HDs and keep getting the message

"Return Code mismatch for FmpUpdateWrapper.efi - (0xb00000001)!

The bios, lcc and idrac are at the latest levels. The file I am using is Network_Firmware_WR5R5_WN32_08.07.25_A00-00.EXE.

I have tried via the chassis to update the nic and via OME 2.2. Both fail with the same message.

Any help is appreciated,

Thx,

John Bradshaw

PERC H700 RAID 5, 3 Drives, Reporting 1 failed and 1 predictive failure

$

Hi:

I have a PowerEdge T410 with a PERC H700, RAID 5 w/3 drives.  The controller reported a failed drive so I replaced it last week with a new/refurbished drive.  Now just 1 week later it's reporting a different drive failed and the replaced drive as predictive failure.  Seems suspicious, i.e. I'm doubting the controller card.

I'm thinking to update the controller firmware first but not sure if I should replace the failed drive first, i.e. if updating firmware could cause array to fail.

Also, if I install OpenManage on a VM (host is ESXi 4.1), does OM see the controller?

Thank you!

Server R730: Is there any way by which I could disable the RAM/CPU(s) from bios?

$

We recently ordered PowerEdge R730 server for internal testing with configuration of 96 GB RAM and 32 processors. The product we are testing need to be tested with 32 GB RAM and 8 Processors.

1) We can not use VMs due to the client requirement of testing the product on physical machine only.

2) Warranty become void if I will remove the slot from the servers.

So my question is:

Is there any way by which I could configure the RAM/CPU(s) from bios or some other place?

R730 8-bay SFF expansion to 16-bay SFF?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a way to expand an 8-bay SFF R730 to a 16-bay SFF setup by getting a second 8-bay backplane and drive cage.

Two questions:

1.  Is this possible/supported?

2. What hardware is needed to accomplish this?

The system board is the 599V5 which is supposedly compatible with the 8 or 16-bay configurations, but I'm pretty sure these chassis are not modular.  Can anyone lend their knowledge?

Dell C6100 Flashing green/amber lights

$

Hi there,

I do apologize that this is almost certainly in the wrong place. I am very new to this forum and not too sure where I should be posting/looking.

I recently got a second hand C6100 server machine with 4 nodes installed. I just had a chance to turn it for the first time today. All four lights on the front of the Chassis turn green. But then after a minute or two, they start flashing green and amber.

It's a steady off,green,off,amber repeat.

I have been looking everywhere to work out what could be causing this. As far as I can see all four nodes are seemingly functioning. Screen turns on, and it boots.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Much thanks,

Damian

No Boot device available R610

Hello,

I have an R610 and have just setup a single disk and installed Server 2012 onto it successfully.

I then installed open manage so I can add some more disks for extra storage.

I have setup a 3TB raid with 3 disks and then setup two more disks in raid 0 so using all 6 slots on the Perk 6/i card.

All drives show up in server 2012 and are usable

I needed to reboot my system after some windows updates, upon rebooting I get no boot device found press F1 to try again.

My BIOS is set to boot mode BIOS and its set to boot to C: on the Perc 6/i card. If i remove all the other disks thus wiping all of the virtual disks I just setup the system will boot to my OS disk. It seems adding new drives stops the R610 from working out which one to boot from.....

How can I get around this? i need to add these extra disks to my system.....

Thanks

Ross

Does upgrading the CPU yourself void the warranty of the server

$

Hi,

I have seen a number of posts here from people and Dell representatives about replacing/ upgrading the CPU.

Just wanted to know if I replace the CPU, does it void the server warranty in any way?

I understand the part purchased by me would not be covered by the warranty but what about the balance parts?

Thanks,

Tanveer

PowerEdge T20 CPU options

$

Hi all,

I have the above machine with the Pentium G3220. I am interested in upgrading the CPU, but as far as I'm aware, the only supported options are the CPU I have and the Xeon E3-1225 V3. I've looked around for the Xeon but I don't think it is made any more, limiting my options.

My question is, does anyone know anywhere in the UK that is selling this CPU new? If this is no longer available, will a newer version of this CPU (e.g. E3-1231 v3) work with the T20? If not, do I have any other upgrade options?

most efficient way to get M630 servers up to latest drivers and firmware

what is the most efficient way to get M630 servers up to latest drivers and firmware?

I found individual DUPs at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/poweredge-m630/drivers, , but this requires me to manually check the versions,

and do separate installs

I also found a firmware update DVD at http://www.dell.com/Support/Article/us/en/04/SLN296511 ,

but this only covers firmware and not drivers.

what do dell engineers recommend? do dell offer anything that does drivers and firmware

Dell PowerEdge 6950 Won't Boot to POST

$

Good morning all!

I was recently provided a Dell PowerEdge 6950 from my employer to use for MCSE training and as a general testing server, as they no longer had use for it.  I tried to upgrade the memory from 16GB to 64GB and was getting a system error on the display of E2110 MB error on some of the DIMM's.  I tried to swap them around to correct the error a couple times.  But now, even with the original DIMM's back in the system, I can't the system to boot to POST.  Just looking for any assistance that can be provided.

Thank you.
