I'm trying to get the AMD s9050 working on the R730 in VMware 5.5 vSGA but xorg stops and the driver on AMD says its supports the R720 so wondering if anyone has this working and or a newer driver from AMD for VMware?

Help Dual Booting PowerEdge T620 with Windows 2008 Server R2 and Ubuntu 14.04
My University Lab has a Dell Power Edge T620 configured in a multi GPU setting running Windows Server 2008 R2 (Tesla K20c for scientific computing and Quadro K600 for video). However I need to use Ubuntu 14.04 , so I was thinking of creating a bootable USB and dual booting it like i usually do on laptops
Is this possible ? I've never worked with Servers before and I'm trying to figure out how do I go around doing this.
The current system has 2 one TB harddisks in RAID1 configuration , so logically only 1 TB is accessible on windows machine, I created two 500 GB partitions (C drive with Windows and a empty 500 GB for installing Ubuntu )
Is there any tutorial that I can follow ? will dual booting be complicated by the RAID1 configuration ?

8 pin connector on Dell PowerEdge R730 to SATA power?
I want to add a USB 3.0 PCI-E card (with SATA power) to a Dell PowerEdge R730.
I called Dell technical support but like most times, they had no idea about the connector or generally anything

Ive found this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812400105 which seems to convert that 8 pin connector to a SATA power connector.
I just wanted to confirm from users if they thought this would work. I dont find any reason or any strangeness in this. The only thing I can think of is if that connector is propriatory but it doesnt seem to be (if someone wants a picture, Ill be more than happy to post it)

How to change PowerEdge 12G system model name?
Just replaced a motherboard on a PowerEdge R720xd, but the system model name is Compellent SC8000. I have already change the service tag with asset /s command and updated firmware. As far as i can tell R720xd and SC8000 motherboards are the same. How can I change the system model name to say PowerEdge R720xd?

PE R710 System Board Fire!
Anyone had a flaming R710? 3.5 year old server. Server error "Fail Safe Voltage Error". Steps taken: Removed from filtered power source. Reseat both power supplies. Drained capacitors by holding power button 20 seconds. Reconnected to power source. Attempted to power on. Result was flames and smoke from chassis. The room was air conditioned, no water or moister evident, little or no dust. Go figure?

cpu1 ierr on PE1950 following PERC 5/E Battery Change
Hi All,
I have today tried to change the PERC 5/E battery on my PE1950 and once changed i got an error on the display of cpu1 ierr and failed to boot.
As I needed to get the server operational ready for the users I had to reinstall the old battery, this then booted as normal.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this routine task would cause this?

R710 Memory Dump
Hi
Basic question I know, but is there anything within the standard set-up of an R710 that will prevent a memory dump from being created?
I have a server (W2003) which keeps restarting for no apparent reason. A call has been raised with MS and they say that something "Dell" is preventing the dump being written. Personally, I don't think a dump is being created because the server isn't blue-screening, simply rebooting, but they want this checking out before going any further.
The server has been set to create a full dump (16Gb memory, 33Gb pagefile) and is now set to create a kernel dump. Auto-restart has been turned off in Windows in the hopes that we can generate a dump through NMI (if we get to the server in time). I can't find anything obvious in the BIOS.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

PowerEdge Firmware update fails on Broadcom?
Using the LifeCycle controller to update both of the integrated Broadcom (default devices) for the PowerEdge T430 server.
Update pulls from FTP.dell server, begins to install package, and then reboots back to the LifeCycle controller, updates not applied. 7.10.17 to 7.10.18. Should I be worried about this?

I am looking for a way to clear NVRAM via racadm or WSMAN. I either heard this was coming from Dell or read about somewhere but can't seem to find the info anywhere. Does anyone know how to do this? Cheers.

poweredge 2950 no power up
I have a few poweredge 2950 servers and they have bin siting for about 6 months now , so I went to power them up and noting happens no lights no nothing iv taken the power supplys out and switched them between the 2 servers and nothing. is there a master reset for the power supplys ?

PowerEdge T610 no video / iDRAC issue
Took T610 out of service for a planned hardware upgrade. Been managing it via iDRAC flawlessly for 3 years. Once on the bench there was no on-board video signal. I tried 2 different working monitors. At boot time the monitor registers a signal at first, but at the time it should post the memory test the monitor goes into power save mode. So I accessed it via RAC and configured the BIOS for an external video card, a 1xPCIe, with no problems. Booted to a Win7 on an SSD and installed 5 or 6 different firmware upgrades via Dell Command 2.0. Since I need a working RAC I switched the BIOS video settings back to internal.
Well -, now I don’t have internal video nor does the RAC ping any more. I figured that the firmware reset the iDRAC’s fixed IP to its default, so I also tried default 192.168.0.120. I also removed reset the BIOS via the on board jumper. The front panel reports the RAC IP as how I configured it before the firmware upgrades. I re-seated the iDRAC6 Enterprise adapter and the single CPU and all DIMMS.
I have a second CPU and DIMMS and additional drives that I have not installed yet. And I just checked that the 3 year warranty ended December 2014.
What am I missing? And thanks in advance for any help.

Adding standalone server to dell vrtx?
Hello Everyone,
We just recently purchased the Dell Vrtx with two blade severs to virtualize a few physical servers we had in our environment. What I want to know is can I somehow connect a third standalone server to make use of the storage in the VRTX chassis and create a 3rd blade server that would not go into the vrtx chassis?

PowerEdge R510 Bios update FAIL
I have 2 PowerEdge R510 Servers that were previously a server from a Medical Company but have now been repurposed on my network for other functions. Both need BIOS updates. The problem is, they both are currently at Version 1.1.4. When I try to run the BIOS update from within windows, It reports success and says it needs to reboot windows in order to apply the update. After reboot, it does not update the bios and just reloads windows as normal. I've also tried to boot from a flash drive and run the update from the executable thru DOS. This fails reporting that the BIOS is not a DELL R510 bios and that it reports itself as " - ". Obviously it is an original DELL Motherboard/BIOS. I need to perform this update because I would like to upgrade the processors to the Xeon 5650 chipset. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

PE T610 - No Video After BIOS Update
Had no problems. I did a BIOS upgrade and now I have No Video & No K/B. Server is working well.
I do not have IDRAC configured. I'm going to do a BIOS jumper reset in the morning. Any other ideas?

Upgrade PE2950 from 2003 32bit to 2008 32bit
I need to upgrade a PE2950 file server. It has PERC5 for internal drives and Perc6 for an external MD1000 RAID array.
Can I just do an in-place upgrade? Will the upgrade keep/update the existing drivers?
Any other things I need to look out for?

Part Numbers - R510 - SAS 6/iR Cables
I have 3 R510's that have H700 RAID cards in them, and I'm swapping those out for the SAS 6/iR controllers (for the JBOD support). This requires different cables but I'm not sure of the model/part number for these cables, and how specific they are to the R510. I need both cables for ctrl0 and ctrl1 ports on the SAS 6/iR. Where would I be able to find the part number and a place to order from?
