I currently have an old PowerEdge 2850 with the Legacy Xeon processors but I would like to upgrade the processors to get virtualization if possible. I have been looking at the Xeon 7110M processor because it uses the same socket and FSB speed but this is a different processor series than originally shipped with these servers. Will it be compatible?
The service manual states that the 2850 can utilize single-core or dual-core processors but I'm not sure if the Xeon 7000 series will be compatible. How would I be able to determine if it will work?
I've read the documents however I have conflicting results, plus my research is finding more contradictions on Dells Recommendations.
I just ordered 18 new 13th Gen Servers (E5 2699 v3, 768 GB Ram Each), so lots of horse power, plenty of cores and lots of memory. On my current T620s I've been testing some settings, mixing Bios and ESXi settings.
Dell Bios: Disable C1 States, Enable Turbo, set Profiles to Maximum Performance, this in theory should give me the best results however this is not the case
Test Bios: Enable C1 States, Enable Turbo, Set OS Controlled, seems to utilize Turbo Mode more frequently.
What are the actual best practices here to absolutely get the most out of the systems? I couldn't care a less about saving on electricity, just Maximum Performance always for a ESXi Cluster that will literally run 70 - 90% maxed out 24/7
hi team.
i have problem on R415. current, i use opteron 4162EE with bios 2.2.1 (latest for now).
And today, i change cpu to 4284. The server can boot normally until come to step before enter windows 2008r2 OS.
i saw the screen showing by "Error: Unsupported CPU and motherboard combination. please install opteron 4100 series cpu." and cannot goto any where.
Somebody can help me know how to fix them?

I have a R710 server with 16 GB of ram (4*4GB) and I need to add 32 GB (2*16G) after the upgrade , the server reads 48Gb but we can only use 32 GB
the old ram configuration was A2 A3 B2 and B3 all 4GB the new ram configuration is A2 B2 each has 16 GB of ram A3 A1 B3 B1 each has 4 GB
so please advice how to make all 48 GB are usable .
Gee Dell,
If you want us to keep buying your server products...why can't you fix your support site so that I don't waste soooo much bloody time trying to get updates to firmware for your products. You might want to check out HP's site so that you can have an idea of how it is supposed to work.
Waiting and waiting for a response from your site when I have requested the drivers and downloads for a specific service tag does NOT inspire me to buy more equipment, since the problem is getting worse and not better.

Sorry for my dumb questions, but I'm new in such equipment.
I have a notebook, and the server.
How do I run this command? I need to reset DRAC password.
I have OMSA installed on the notebook, but I cannot access server [server_ip]:1311, while I can access https://[server_ip].
I would be very pleased with any help.
I have two 2950 servers, one Gen 2 and one Gen 3 (unused). The Gen 2 server has a failed motherboard DT021, and a lot of important data. Failure was 3.3V power.
The Gen 3 box is not in Production. It has a DP246 motherboard.
My question: Is it possible and safe to move the PERC5I WX072 controller and RAID 5 array drives from the Gen 2 box to the Gen 3 box and retain the RAID array intact?
Thank you.
Server was running fine for almost a month since it's last power down.. Last night I powered off the unit then unplugged it re rearrange some power cables and clean up the area.. After a couple hours, I plugged the unit back in and hit the power button and nothing! So I reseated the power cable, and tried again.. Still nothing.. I got out a multimeter and check the female side on the power cord with a reading of 118v. So I opened the case and peaked inside.. confirmed most of the cables and memory. Tried again and still nothing.. So I gave up a bit and thought maybe it just needs to sit plugged in awhile.. Came back today and tried, hit the power button and until is still completely dead.. No light flashes, no fans.. Acts as if it is just it's not even plugged in..
I am assuming a faulty power supply at this point.. However, I am hoping there is a few other things I could test or try..
This server is much loved and would hate to lose it. However, I am unsure if worth investing $100 for a used power supply at this point.
I cannot eject cartridges anymore. Once I press the button the cartridge releases but I have to grip the edges with my fingertips and pull it out. Once out the server emits a grinding noise. Anyone experience this and what is the solution to fix it?
Quick question... I can't find a spec on the internal USB of the R710. Is it USB 2 or USB 3? Would USB 2.0 be fast enough to install the parent Hyper-V Core on an internal USB drive?
We inherited a Dell PowerEdge 710 server. It has a total of 48 GB Ram. There are a total of 10 memory sticks in the machine. Five memory sticks in the A bank and five in the B bank. Eight of the memory sticks are 4 GB 2Rx4 PC3 1060R 09 10 E1 D2. Two are 8GB 2R4 PC3L 1060R 9 12 E2. The 4GBs are in the A1 A4 A2 A5 B1 B4 B2 B5 and the 8GBs in the A7 and A8. YES, I know this is an unsupported configuration, as I said we inherited it (MSP company). Every time we reboot it, we get the error message about an unsupported memory configuration. The message Press (Ctrl-B) for Remote Access Setup in 5 seconds appears next. Then the message Press F1to continue or F2 to run the system setup program.
Is the press f1 to continue, caused by the unsupported memory configuration or a problem with the Remote Access Setup?
Given that we need to have at least 2 sticks of the same type 2 GB 4 GB, 8 GB in the same memory channels, we need to do one of several things: buy 4: 4GB and replace the 8GB by removing it and putting 2: 4B in A3 A6 and 2: 4GB in B3 B6, buy 4:4GB and remove all the memory and put the 4GB in A4 A7 A5 A8 A6 A9 and B4 B7 B5 B8 B6 B9, or by 2: 8GB, remove the 8GB sticks and put the 8 GB memory in A3 A6 and B3 B6, correct?
Are there any changes to the memory configuration in the BIOS we might need to change?
Hi guys, I hope one of you can help me.
We have two T310 servers at work, and both of them came up with the "System Services update required" error at startup. After quite a few unsuccessful attempts at updating the Lifecycle controller firmware with the "Update failure : The File copied did not match the original file" error, I came across this article: [View:www.dell.com/.../ArticleIframeView]
After doing exactly as it said, now I can't get the computer to recognize the Unified Server Configurator at all. Every time I try to update it, be it from the Dell Linux-based update utility or from Windows, I get this error: "This Update Package is not compatible with your system configuration." I can't access the web interface so I can't use the .usc repair tool, but I can ping it. I've tried many hard resets. I assume the fix would have something to do with using the ipmitool, since that's what seemed to screw it up more? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I have read much about it and now I am a bit confused. I habe Herr a R610 Witz dual CPU configuration and 2x 4GB RAM, different 2x 4GB RAM and 2x 8GB RAM. So what is the right configuration in the server?
My config now is 4-empty-4-empty-8-empty-CPU-CPU-empty-8-empty-4-empty-4
This gives me an configuration error.
Thanks in advance!
Our PE 1950 currently has 2 E5205 CPU's in it. According to:
we may be able to install a quad core 5400. Specifically, a e5450 which is 3GHz. Is this possible? I don't know if this is a gen 2 or 3 PE 1950.
We had a T410 server with two 8 GB of memory installed in it, and we recently purchased two additional 8 GB modules from Dell. The one in A3 showed up fine, but the one in A4 is not showing up. We've tried to reseat it, and it appears to be in properly, but it doesn't even show up during the boot up process, nor do we encounter any error. Also, in OpenManage, DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2, and DIMM_A3 show the 8 GB modules, but there is no entry in A4. Does anyone have any guidance? Thanks
This is a known bug with Dell PowerEdge T320 Servers and Server 2012 R2. In my case, it was happening randomly only once or twice a month. The CPU would go down to below 0.20 Ghz and the server would crawl.
If your CPU has been tested and is not overheating, this is the workaround:
In the PowerEdge Bios, change the System Profile to Performance Optimized. This will disable C-States and C1E.
Mine was previously set to Performance Per watt (OS).
I haven't tested it, but I think the issue also occurs with Performance per watt (DAPC)
Dell, how about fixing your bios?

Installed a Win2012 Server on an R820 & no problem, then in error when configuring raid levels through lifecycle controller trashed the drives with the OS on. Now when trying to boot into the Lifecycle Controller to install the OS again gets stuck with the 'Initializing firmware updates'. Also noticed in the Lifecycle Logs we have the following message -
UEFI0004:CPU Exception Type 0x06: Invalid Opcode(software)
A CPU invalid opcode exception(type 0x06) occured in the pre-boot UEFI environment. The software attempted to execute invalid code. The software attempted to execute valid code.
Unsure how we resolve this?
