How to run RACADM RACRESETCFG on Dell 2850 gen.II

$

Sorry for my dumb questions, but I'm new in such equipment.

I have a notebook, and the server.

How do I run this command? I need to reset DRAC password.

I have OMSA installed on the notebook, but I cannot access server [server_ip]:1311, while I can access https://[server_ip].

I would be very pleased with any help.

Poweredge R310 and Windows Server 2012 R2

Hello, I'm having some BSOD trouble installing windows server 2012 R2 on a dell poweredge that happens to have the H200 PERC raid on it. It's on 8GB RAM and the BIOS was flashed to the latest version 1.12 I believe. I was able to get to the desktop a couple times but it seems after a restart I get blue screens. My Poweredge is from 2011 I think and it originally came with 2008 Server OS.

The few times I was able to go into the desktop and see the event viewer I saw a couple errors including

DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service ShellHWDetection with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:

Any help is much appreciated!!! I thought r310 was compatible with 2012 since it is included in the specs support page.

Poweredge 830 with 2TB HDD?

$

Is this possible with current BIOS? (A04). Also, can I partition the drive slightly smaller than 2TB to load the OS? What if I had a 320GB drive to boot to and then added the 2 TB drives (2) as data drives only? (With a software RAID solution...I don't have a PERC card)

Have these 2 drives that need a home in an inherited PE 830 server.

Can anyone please help?

Dell T420 RAM - Part# 0146H or P9RN2?

I am planning to add some memory to a Dell T420 and trying to figure out the correct part number to order. The system shows as having shipped with both part numbers 0146H and P9RN2. This is under the Original Configuration for my service tag. But the system shipped with only 1x8GB ram module.

What is the correct part number to order?

Also, any issues with mixing 1.35v and 1.5v on this system?

Thanks!

Hello,

I need some help with this issue

I have a Poweredge T610 server with 12GB RAM later acquired more 2X8GB.

After Memory Upgrade the BIOS me this info: "The memory configuration is not Optimal"

The memory banks :

A1; A2; A3: 2GB

B1, B2, B3: 2GB

A4: 8GB

B4: 8GB

The server despite the BIOS information it assumes total memory 6x2GB + 8x2GB = 28GB

as well as the windows.

Am I wrong doing the upgrade memory  Channels?

Thanks

Three PowerEdge R820's exhibiting the same issue

We have three R820s that will crash and reboot on us within minutes of each other usually around the same time between 6:00 and 7:00 AM either Thursday or Friday morning.  Initially; the error references PSU2; we did some research and decided to update the firmware on one of the hosts to test.  After successfully updating the firmware on one of the devices sure enough the other two servers that weren't updated crashed.  The server with the updated firmware did not crash so we though we had the issue figured out and decided to update the firmware on the remaining two servers.

Unfortunately the firmware updated bricked one of the PSU's so we're waiting on a replacement there but it seems the firmware updates did not work because sure enough this morning the two remaining servers crashed; this time the error was much more vague:

Here's the entry from one server:

Thu Dec 18 06:30:25 2014A runtime critical stop occurred.

Here's the entry from the other:

Thu Dec 18 06:29:51 2014A runtime critical stop occurred.

Error seems to have gotten a lot more general now!

Anyone have any idea where to look now?

Thanks!

This is hopefully an easy answer, but I have a firmware and driver update for my PERC H700 and wondering which should be installed first? Does it even matter?

Dell PowerEdge VRTX Enclosure Owner's Manual Link Broken

PE2900 SERVER WONT come to DELL startup screen AND Proceed to BIOS

Hi,

My PE2900 was fine when purchased around 2009 and used till 2012. I packed it as there was no use, till last month when I powered ON.

During the first start, found 2nd CPU fan loose and CPU refixed, fan refixed. Error solved and it started with 4GB RAM(1Gx4 pcs), RAID1 and RAID 5 drives. Checked for a week, All OK. Powered OFF. Removed Mains.

Next week, came up with Mem Config Err 2011. Got eliminated after few restarts ( Power OFF, Mains OFF, MAINS ON, POWER ON).

Ordered 4GBx2 RAM for upgrade, inserted and it worked well for 3 days of checking.

Installed softwares etc. , used for 2 weeks with 4GBx2 and 1GBx2 , No problems, No errors.

Ordered last week, 3 new SAS drives for RAID5. Removed old SAS drives and tried to use new RAID5 drives.

PROBLEMS STARTED:

a. failed to detect 1 of 3 RAID5 harddisk. But allowed to create VD of RAID1 drives thru BIOS setup .. etc..

b. Tried to swap RAID 5 drives, checked cable etc... but could load BIOS and allow me to go ahead.

c. Almost always showed Err 2011, Mem Config on Orange front LCD along with PE2900 msgscroll.

AFTER 3-5 POWERED OFF, MAINS OFF, MAINS ON, POWER ON.

I HAVE:

No "DELL" startup screen,  VGA screen BLANK, VGA Monitor does not get any video signal. Looks like Does not enter POST(BIOS).

SOMETIMES 2011 err, SOMETIME NO ERRORS on Front Orange LCD, still VGA blank, no drives blink. still does not enter BIOS

Removed ALL Drives, LCD scrolls "HDD removed<n1,n2... so on>"

Did a NV RAM Clear, no progress to BIOS

Removed SAS controller, no progress, put VGA monitor and keyboard on front panel, no progress to BIOS. LCD scrolls "PE2900" nothing else.

AS OF NOW, looks that the Power Supplies are OK, ONLY MOTHERBOARD with VGA,Keyboard & 1GBx4 pcs in exact slots, also swapped them, also put 1GBx2 etc., still does not come up to BIOS. No err on LCD.

Any ideas how to bring it up to first screen??? Thanks in advance.

PCIe information from dmidecode in Linux

Hi,

I have a Dell R630 running Suse Enterprise 11. According to the manual there should be 2 x16 slots and 1 x8 slot. However when I run dmidecode, i see the following

Type: x16 PCI Express 3

Current Usage: Available

Type: x8 PCI Express 3 x16

Current Usage: Available

Type: x8 PCI Express 3 x16
Current Usage: In Use

Does dmidecode show the card link width or the slot link width? I have an x8 card in the last slot.

Thanks

PE R710, firmware, 870 watt power supplies, how to obtain

$

This is regarding a Dell PowerEdge model R710 that has two 870 watt power supplies.

Upon replacement of a failed power supply, the LifeCycle controller reported there were different versions of power supply firmware. Upon the restarting this computer, it's lifecycle controller listed a message to correct this.

This LIfeCycle report is correct.  I have looked in many places for firmware updates for 870 watt power supplies, and spent far too much time on this simple task.

Where can I get Dell firmware updates for Dell 870 watt power supplies for Dell R710 servers?

Details:

Power supplies installed.

Model     PWR SPLY,870W,RDNT         Manufacturer     Dell
Part Number     0YFG1CA01     Serial Number     CN17972034247V
    Firmware Version     03.02.64
PSU.Slot.2    Model     PWR SPLY,870W,RDNT      Manufacturer     Dell
Part Number     03257WA00     Serial Number     CN162939AA02GP
    Firmware Version     08.08.00

Dell provides updates for other models of power supplies used in R710s.  For example, at the web page www.dell.com/.../en

Firmware updates are listed for 570 watt and 1100 watt power supplies at Dell's web site.  I tried to install these updates though.  The update did not start as there are 870 watt power supplies in this R710, as expected.

1.    PSU_FRMW_WIN_R242159.EXE  (R242159) release date:  December 15, 2009
Flextronics 570W (VPR1M) Power Supply Firmware Version 1.32, Released 1/12/12
2.    PSU_FRMW_WIN_R259051.EXE  1100 watt power supply
LiteOn-Firmware, 1100W (9PG9X) PSU, 01.01.05, A05, 4/12/10

I found references to new firmware versions, ex. 8.12.00 for the  03257WA00  part number.  I did not find the update though.  At ftp.dell.com, I only found one older version for a Delta 870W (PT164) power supply,  PSU_FRMW_WIN_R213337.EXE,

Where are other updates for these R710 870 watt power supplies?

All other software and firmware is current, as of 12/19/2014, for this server.  LifeCycle version 14.12.200.61 was used (LCDRPCK_WIN_14.12.200.61) and SUU 14.14.200.69.

Poweredge 2900 HDD5 fault leading to operating system loss

$

Help! I have a Poweredge 2900 which has multiple problems and dont know the best way to fix it hopefully without losing vital data.

It started with HDD5 fault which wasn't noticed, I then was unable to access data and on checking the server actually disc 2 and 5 were showing faults.

Foolishly tried several reboots and reseating the drives in case this might help, but I have made it much worse and now I have lost the operating system.

I do at least have a full system back up but it is a couple of weeks old on a NAS drive and I really want to restore the latest data if possible.

I have ordered two new drives to replace the faulty ones

My first problem is how to restore the operating system as I don't have the original discs, I'm thinking I could download the evaluation version to start with, then hot swap the two faulty drives and see if it will rebuild.

I'm pretty sure it is raid 5 but not sure exactly how it is setup. There are two HDDS horizontal at the top which I assume one is the C: drive, then there are 8 vertical drives all containing 300GB HDDs labelled 0 through to 7, which ones would be the raid configuration and which ones spares I don't know

The other option again using the evaluation copy but then restore from the base metal build backup? will that even work?

If I do that I will overwrite my data with the older version but do I have another option?

Any help would get me out of a big hole, thanks in advance

PE T410 Motherboard change.

I swapped out an OH19HD (BIOS 1.12.0) motherboard with an ON151GP, with BIOS 1.9.0 due to issues with the the embedded S100 controller  and processor pwr managemant . I no longer have a service tag number to locate updates other than my old number, which correlates to the old board (OH19HD).

Anyone know how to locate updates specific to my new mb w/o a svc tag #, or if updates are the same as for the old board. As far as I can tell, there a 3 different types of boards (with a least 2 sub type replacement part numbers for 2 of them).  The new board's Bios isn't listed as an option for the old one on the update page for the OH19HD, so there may be differing versions for the different boards.

Thanks

increase HD size PowerEdge T100

Hi,

One of my client got PowerEdge T100 Server and they been using it since 2009 without any problem untill now when they hit the maximum limit of Hard disk size. they got two 250GB SERIAL ATA 7.2K 3.5" HD installed with RAID configuration and which get mirrored. They want to increase the size of Disk to 500GB.

What steps i should take to increase the size of HD and most important, is it even possible to increase the size as i have read somewhere you can't increase the size on "SAS 6I/R INTERNAL CONTROLLER CARD RAID"

Here is Dell Service Tag: (Svc Tag removed by moderator)

Add 32G to R710 Server

I'm trying to upgrade the RAM in an R710 server (2 processors).

The original configuration of 32G is  8 x 4G DIMMS (Optimized)

DIMMS are in A1, A2, A4, A5 and B1, B2, B4, B5.

I have 2 x 16G DIMMS to add, and I cannot find a valid combination for how to add these in to make 64G.

I thought a channel could have just one DIMM, but it seems like that doesn't work.

Hi guys,

I need help in formatting our servers i think i messed up something delete or mis configuration.
we have poweredge r720 server in office and we want to reformat it to become new server. heres what i did:

1. during booting we go to lifecycle and configure raid 0 (we have 3 hard disk)

2. The system boots good and the server install the OS we have. (but we cant see the 3rd drive because we think 2 disk = Raid 0, and we are trying to see the 3rd drive as a second partition but it doesnt shown so we just decided to recreate a raid 5 to see what happen.

3. we create raid 5 via lifecycle in boot menu. but we receive errors and we stock here: the error is SWC0015.

4. Please help... i tried to boot on the installed os before but we cant its already remove maybe cause i mess in lifecycle settings i think.

Thank you in advance

Barebones R610 SSD Install - What am I missing?

My company recently just purchased a r610 poweredge for our lab, and I am trying to install an SSD. I put the SSD in slot 0, but when I try to boot it up and install ESXI the drive does not display. I'm not trying to do an RAID array or anything of the sort just a straight ESXI install on the SSD. What am I missing? Sorry I am very new to this and don't deal with server hardware on a regular basis.

I would appreciate any guidance and help. Thanks!

Dell administrator and specialist out there.. , I need help!

I have a VRTX and running 2 nodes Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V Cluster. I want to migrate to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster (using another 2 blades) but will use existing storage. Seems that I cant use existing storage even I have assigned the virtual disk from the CMC. From the Failover Cluster Manager>Disk, I got error "The requested resource is in use". In cluster event log, I got:

1069 -

Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 1' of type 'Physical Disk' in clustered role '9c5e9411-cddd-4496-8c57-9be758e788a1' failed.

1038 - Ownership of cluster disk 'Cluster Disk 1' has been unexpectedly lost by this node

I am currently stucked here. Cant make the 2012 R2 to have access to existing cluster disk. Can someone point me what is my mistake and if there is any steps to be made on CMC or Windows?

Thanks in advance for your help..
