Is it standard practice for Dell to send out a server completely locked with no Key.
How am I supposed to verify they have completed my other with the parts I requested?
Shouldn't a key be part of the order, or at least have the server shipped unlocked.
I've had a T410 server that just came out of warranty (of course) and suddenly developed a heat issue. I receive the following error in the small screen on the front of the case:
E1114 Ambient temp exceeds allowed range
I've opened up the case and completely cleaned it. The temperature of the air coming out of the back of the case is actually quite cool, and all the fans are working properly. It sounds like a jet engine, whereas before it was rather quiet. Please let me know how I can fix this. I tried adjusting the temperature thresholds in the OpenManage Server Administrator pages but it didn't lower the fan speed. It's loud enough that we can't work in the office where the server is.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Hi

Hello all

Hello,
I am trying to install Windows 7 64bit on my machine and am having issues. So far:
Set up raid 1 on disk 0 and disk 1 for the OS
Set up raid 5 on the other 6 drives
Initialized the drives and rebooted.
On startup I see the follwing meassages....(not sure if this is what they say exactly, going off memory as im at work right now)
BIOS for adapter 0 is disabled
BIOS for adapter 1 is disabled
Rom Bios not installed
If I let it complete, it recognizes (2) virtual drives but it just hangs after everything is checked.
If I boot with the Win 7 CD it doesn't recognize the CD or prompt to boot from CD.
I downloaded a dell installation and server management CD and booted with that. It boots from that CD but gives me an error once the GUI starts that says disk error verify disks are initialized which they are. I used fast init, not the slow init.
I downloaded a new DVD from DELL (SBUU) but have not tried it yet.
I am fairly savvy with PC's but not very experienced with servers. I am just looking for some insight on what could be the issue. My application does not call the need to use a server OS, so I am going with Win 7 64 bit.
Thanks for any help!
Jimmie
We are installing is properly, in proper channels - evenly. We have 2x2GB DIMM installed in A1+B1 and we are adding additional 2x2GB DIMM to A2+B2. Server throws a memory configuration error. However, if we replace the RAM - it works fine. The RAM is identical to the one already installed(speed etc) - just a different vendor.
We also have a RAID battery error - not sure if related in any way.
What could be the issue?
Hello,
I'm looking for MTBF figures of the Dell PowerEdge R210 II and R220.
Who can point me in the right direction?
I have a servicetag of both of them in case they are needed.
Thanks,
Paul
I have been asked to upgrade a T610 server that currently has 80GB of memory in it. I have been told that the system was setup in dual channel configuration and that it has at least 2 16GB sticks of memory in it. I cannot shutdown the system at this time to look what is in there, but just knowing the system total I'm fairly sure that it has 2 16GB sticks in bank 1 and 2 4GB in bank 2 on each cpu.
Looking at the manual for this server, it doesn't mention 16GB sticks at all. So my question is does this server support 3 16GB sticks per channel? Also is this the best configuration for this system? Would there be any performance reduction if we filled all three slots of bank 1 with 16GB sticks and all three slots of bank 2 with 4 GB sticks on each cpu?
Thanks!
Quick question: We have 3 R720 servers running as Remote Desktop Session Hosts. I would like to either install the Firepro 9000 series or NViDIA GPU cards to enable RemoteFX. We currently use IDrac on these systems when needed. I am looking over the documentation and it says the cards are supported.
I am being told that Idrac will no longer work once we install additional cards.
I see nothing in the documentation that tells me IDRac will no longer function with GPU cards installed. Would someone be able to tell me if IDRac will no longer be usable if we install additional cards for our RemoteFX configuration?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Steve
Hello all,
I have a customer with a Dell Poweredge T710 with redundant power supplies. Recently, I noticed the ESM log that PS1 and PS2 fail and come back online periodically(this has been happening for as far back as the log goes). Here is an exert from aforementioned log.

Is this normal? Or should I replace the power supplies? I realize this a likely a noob question but I would greatly appreciate any advice.
I have a Dell R610. Cold you please send me the instructions to expand an existing raid. My Dell is running ESXi 5.5.

This system originally had a power conversion board that connected to the psu. I need to know what psu I can plug into it without using that conversion board. I need to know if the conversion board made the pinouts running from it into standard atx pinouts. I only want to run this motherboard from a test-bench.
Hi all, need help on where to diagnose this problem.
My VRTX has only 1 M520 server node. for now I installed Windows 2012 on it so I can take vitualization out of the picture first.
No problems with network connectivity, ping test all checks out. problem is bandwidth.
I plug my laptop to one of the external ports of VRTX integrated switch. and did iperf test between my laptop and the server node.
For M520 sending packets to my laptop
iperf shows
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 172.17.0.101, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 63.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 3] local 172.17.0.111 port 49159 connected with 172.17.0.101 port 5001
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 595 MBytes 587 Mbits/sec
587 Mbps not exactly gigabit, but I suppose I can live with this.
But when I try to do the traffic in reverse from my laptop sending packets to the server, iperf shows
C:\Users\Zen>iperf -c 172.17.0.109
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 172.17.0.109, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 63.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 3] local 172.17.0.101 port 55819 connected with 172.17.0.109 port 5001
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.2 sec 9.75 MBytes 4.82 Mbits/sec
that's 4 Mbps! it fluctuates between 1 to 11 Mbps. quite absurd... I've already updated firmware of CMC, VRTX integrated switch, M520 NICs. I didn't touch any of the QoS settings. it's now at basic with no egress and ingress limitations.
Can anyone advice me how to go about solving this bandwidth issue? Where should I look?
Hope I can get more useful answers and/or advice from the community.
Thank you..
Best regards,
Zen
Hi i have a Dell r610 but it takes some seconds to startup i got 48gb ram, i just checked that everything is ok in terms of ram, hard drives, my bios version is 2.0.13 what can i do to optimize it?

Hi,
We own in our company a R710 Dell Server with 24 Gb PCL3-10600 memory. We recently request our supplier for an upgrade of 16Gb (2 x 8Gb). The supplier gave us 2 x 8Gb PCL-12800 memory mdule
When the additional memory installed, the server refuses to start and shows the following error "Memory confuguration Failure, please check DIMM"
My question: is it possible to Mix the two kind of memory (PCL3-10600 and PCL3-12800) ?
Best regards.
The software I am using on this Dell desktop computer is Windows Server 2012. When I go to shut down the computer by using the start menu, it does not fully shut down. It turns off my monitor and then it seems it just puts my computer into sleep mode or hibernate mode. However it will do nothing once that is done. I can not hold the actual power button down to shut it off. The only way I can get it to even come back on is if I unplug the power cord going into the back of the computer from it and let it sit for about 30 seconds. When I plug it back in and press the power button on the computer it comes up fine. If I have to do a Windows update or anything to restart my computer it does this each and every time. This problem has only recently started and i know it should not be doing this.
