R730 Chipset drivers for Windows 2008 R2

$

I'm imaging a new R730 server with SCCM, using the driver packs available thru the Dell systems management tools ISO (version 8.0.1).  The Windows 2008 R2 driver pack in in this ISO seems to have corrupt drivers in it.

I consistently get an error related to iastoreA.sys

Creating a driver package by manually downloading the network and disk drivers works, up until I add the chipset drivers, then I get the same error again.

Anyone else seeing this when imaging an R730 with Windows Server 2008 R2?

I did notice that the Dell OS Single Driverpack for 13G has reference to updated chipset drivers that were causing BSOD.  Maybe this update hasn't made it into the Dell systems management tools ISO or the individual downloads?

thanks in advance

Tony

Added second CPU to R710 - performance issue

Hello,

So we users servers to transcode media into H264 and we were pleased with 2xE5520 performance on Dell R610 we saw in one of the workshops. We decided to buy R710 as we needed some PCIe space.

Placed an order for R710 with 1xE5504 and got myself 2xE5520 that i installed. Fired it up, loaded necessary software and that's when disappointment started knocking on the door. With R610 we saw 40 transcoding processes and htop was showing 90% load on all cores. With this server, 21 is maximum i can do with about the same load. It seems to me like one of the processors is not taking the load and that results in performance to be 50% of what we were expecting?

Not very server savvy could I have possibly missed something? Settings in BIOS? RAM configuration for 2 CPU>?

Hello all!

I had a server PowerEge R520 in my organisation. After i have install a new processor, RAM & heatsink, as soon as I connected to electricity, on the forward panel, I saw LCD message.
"HWC2005: System board Riser cable or interconnect failure. Check connection."

Server turn on correct, but this message disturbs me. What the "Riser cable" is ? And what I must doing for stop that?

Thank you for helping me.

Customer tested HP NC523SFP 10Gb 2-port Server Adapter in DelL PE R730. Card was not recognized. Is there any way to arrange that or it is just not supported?

Any suggestion would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Resetting the iDRAC

Hi there

I have a Dell 620 server, where the iDrac will not login, I get the login page and add the credential, but it just never responds. Anyway I know I can reset the iDrac by holding in the little 'i' button on the front panel, but I need to know the consequences of doing so...

Will this re boot the server?

Will this reset the iDrac settings back to default?

If it resets it, does it just restart the iDrac and let me using previous settings?

Many thanks people,

Kev

C1100 What kind of hard drives do you have?

I have some HP model: EF0300FATFD SAS 300gb 15k drives, but the PERC doesn't recognize them.  I need to get others, and I'd like some assurance they're going to work this time, so i'd like to hear from others to find out what works.  I prefer to go with SAS 300GB 15k and use the PERC, but I'll get SATA if needed.

I see some Dell SAS drives on ebay.  I'm sure they should work, but I'm hesitant.

My UPS went dead, after reparation I plugged my PowerEdge 2900 and nothing happened, no leds at the back side. My warranty is expired, so before I drop the Power Supply Units (Z930P-00) I disassembled them to figure out if  can be easily repaired. I have made some heat images. Both PSUs warming at the same point in 30s to 60°C. Can I follow this track? Is it a one-part-fail type of error? If so, please give me some clue. Images:

server will recognize Intel x520,  iDRAC7 life cycle does not work. Does Dell have a driver for this problem? The card is Intel branded, must it be Dell branded to work? Thank you, for any input.

Dell PowerEdge store cannot handle complex orders

$

Once again the Dell store just frustrates the heck out of me. It is so braindead stupid about the limited choices it forces onto customers.

Consider:

- 1U R630 server - 8GB SDHC boot, VMWare 5.5 hypervisor, PERC H830 External RAID-6, NO DISKS

- Qty 2 - PowerVault MD1220 24-bay 2.5" SAS enclosure

- Qty 48 - 1.2 TB SAS 10kRPM drives

,

For the life o' me, I simply cannot get the store configurator to allow me to build an R630 server with NO hard drives.

It doesn't need any. It boots VMWare from the 8gig SDHC cards. The disks are all external on the two PowerVault MD1220, using the PERC H830 RAID-6 controller.

,

Well there is simply NO WAY the online web store is going to allow me to proceed without selecting at least 1 internal drive. I cannot even add it to the cart with no internal hard drives selected.

I need a checkbox that says: "ignore all 'errors' and really, ship it to me as configured even if the webstore designer doesn't understand the advanced concepts of what I'm trying to do"

BMC Update Failed Now I cannot update BMC or the BIOS

System Dell PowerEdge 2950

I Updated my BIOS then I went to update BMC. In the Middle of the BMC Firmware upgrade we lost power and then my UPS ran out of juice and the system died. When it booted back up I can get into windows but the Fans running at 100%, there is a message that says "Baseboard Management Controller  Communication Failure" during bootup and once in Windows I can no longer try to re-update the BIOS or BMC, it says "Failed to communicate with the device:. I also tried to clear the NVram with the pin swap.

Any suggestions on how I can force the BMC Firmware update to install?

IDSDM not selectable as boot option on R730 firmware

We just acquired an R730 with the dual IDSDM option.I am unable to directly select the IDSDM /SD card as a boot option in either BIOS or UFEI.

Firmware has been updated to the latest revision.  OS installed on SD cards is FreeNAS.

The only way to get the system to boot from the SD cards is to go through the boot process, have it fail when it can't find the "C" drive, or anything else and then select one time boot option and then select the SD card.

Suggestions/fixes would be appreciated.

Hi...... I have quite a few R210 II's and trying to install a Radeon graphic card ...... The R210 II has Core I3 for a processor ..... The graphic chip in the I3 doesh't seem to handle video rendering so I want to add a graphic card .... with the graphic card installed the R210 II hangs 12 on the led control panel and a _ on the top left of the screen. Is there a bios setting for installing a graphic card? If I take the card out it boot up just fine.

Thanks

How to use download files from repository on a T110 II

$

Hi,

I'm new to Dell Poweredge server, coming from HP Proliant I see I have something that are similar.

I downloaded and installed the Dell Repository Manager. Created the repository folder and populated with the files I need for my PE T110 II. But I don't want to install one by one, and I don't want to search if I need or not that version because the one I have installed is outdated.

In HP I have the Version Control Repository Manager, that is similar to Dell Repository Manager, and I have Version Control Agent that compares the version of each driver, software and firmware installed on the server to the repository. If I have any difference I can mark each one and click Install.

How can I do this on Dell?

Regards,
Edgar

BIOS vs EFI boot

What is the difference between the two?

Processor speed limit on PE T410?

$

0

I've been benchmarking my PE T410 with 2x x5670 Xeons and cannot get them to run at full speed. I've tried disabling C-states,  C1E, even turbo mode in BIOS, along with all variations of Max performance, OS DPM (also in BIOS). OS settings for max power, no core parking, no throttling, etc... but cannot get the processor to run at max speed. No matter what settings I use Intel Speed Step seems to stay enabled and the processor speed bounces around from 1500 and up (benchmark speed reports as only 1600 - 2100), when it is supposed to be under load. Core Temps are in the low 50*s so there should be no thermal throttling happening.

Does anyone know of a way to shut of Intel speed step? Or it this behavior SOP for Server type hardware? I know the motherboard has some issues (s100 controller is malfunctioning and the system halts if a shutdown command is given). The latest BIOS is installed. Could the motherboard be causing the issue?

TIA
