Dell Poweredge C6100 XS23-TY3 server: Memory configuration problem

Hi, Dell!

I'm currently using Poweredge C6100 server(4 nodes) and there has been a problem with configuring memories.

Normally in one node, I place two 4GB memory chips on each processor, which is total 4 of them, and it has worked well.

So I tried to add one more on each so that it configures total 24GB, and I put three 4GB memory chips on each processor.

But the system didn't recognize and a blue screen with error messages came up. The modules are same size, and the memories are fine.

What have I done wrong? and How may I solve this?

PowerEdge R715 memory upgrade

Hello,

I have a PowerEdge R715 server with 2xAMD CPUs and 16x2GB memory. I'd like to add another 32GB of memory but I read something about that the memory lanes must be populated identically. Is it possible to add 2x16, 4x8GB or 8x4GB and have a total of 64GB?

Thank you in advance for your help.

8gb RAM in SC430?

Hi, I'm wondering if the SC430 supports 2gb modules, to populate it with 4x2gb of RAM.

Additionally, I'm wondering if it has to be PC2-4200 CL4 or if PC2-5300 CL5 would suit this one aswell? I'm getting very mixed information when trying to find information regarding it.

More explicitly,I'm curious wether these modules would fit:

Kingston KVR667D2E5/2G

or

Kingston KVR533D2E4K2/2G (kit of 2x1gb)

I would rather go for the 2gb modules if possible.

R610 and R620 RAM Configuration

We have a bunch of R610's and R620's that we want to add some RAM to and hopefully utilise some spares we have.

On the R610's, we tried running 8x8GB + 4x16GB (total 128GB) in the R610's but it's an unsupported config, we assume because it wants to see every channel with equal total ram. This has made us opt for 6x8GB and 6x16GB to give a supported config, which is the least 16GB sticks we can buy to upgrade these to 128 or above, unless I have this wrong? Based on this being correct, we have a dilema with the remaining sticks.

We have 12x8's and 20x4's in spares, so on the R620 we wanted to do 12x8GB and 12x4GB to match the 144 above, but I guess this would again mean unequal capacities per channel, or does this not matter on the R620's. Any help would be appreciated.

PowerEdge 2950 Fan Issue

I am having an issue with the PowerEdge 2950 where the Fans are in over drive.

I get the following error:

E1310 RPM Fan 3 E1313 Fan Redundancy (switching the fan did nothing still says Fan 3).

I have swapped the fans, cleaned the fans, blown out the connectors and it still gives teh same error which leads me to believe it may be a board problem...?

Dell OpenManage says:

System Board FAN 3 RPM 0 RPM [N/A] [N/A] 2025 RPM [N/A]

The zero reading is incorrect, all fans are spinning and are working fine.

#1. Does this mean that something is wrong with the connection on the board?

#2. Will the other fans wear out now that they have to compensate for the incorrect reading ?

#3. Is there anyway to get these fans to slow down it sounds like an air craft carrier.

"Attempting PXE boot" - make it stop!

Everytime I reboot, the system shows "Attempting PXE boot" in upper right of screen after the progress bar fully loads. Any ideas?

Specs:
PowerEdge R610
one add in Quad port Intel ET NIC
Bios Version             = 6.2.3
iDRAC Version            = 1.90
USC Version              = 1.5.5.27

Tried:
Reset idrac: "racadm racreset"
Reset to defaults idrac: "racadm racresetcfg"
Reset to defaults system: "syscfg --loaddefaults"
Disabled all NICs in boot order and made sure disk was on top
Messed with PXE bootonce settings. They look fine.
Forced same version install of idrac, Lifecycle controller and BIOS
Looked at relaese notes of newer FW to see if something was fixed. I didnt see anything.
Flea power drain.

Boot bios problem?

A customer has a PowerEdge T410.   When I run a remote reboot on it stops at a screen that you have to hit F1 to continue or F2 to go into some sort of setup.   It shows the Phoenix Rom BIos Plus Version 1.10 1.4.7 etc.   Then Dell system PowerEdge T410 .. www.dell.com and then the strike F1 key to continue , F2 to run system setup program.

I have not worked on Dell servers for a long time so curious what is stopping it at this point during a simple reboot of Windows.    Do we need to go into the bios and clear some error logs or something ?

Thanks

Mike

T420

We posted a question earlier about configuration for a new T420 Server but it has been removed.

We were we not told that is was deleted but upon checking to see if there were any response we see that the question is no longer in the forum or in our list of active threads.

I can't help but interpret that as Dell's suggestion to buy something else, ironically something we have done in recent years with all of our other computer hardware.  What a shame to see a once terrific company change so dramatically in such a short period of time.

Ram Installation in Dell M610

Hi all,

I read Ram installation in Dell m610's hardware manual, there was 3 mode to install: Advanced ECC, Mirroring, Independent channel (Optimizer).

But when i installed Ram on Server real.  "Memory Setting" in BIOS had 4 mode: Advanced ECC, Mirroring, Independent channel and Spare mode.

I installed 16 modules (8GB/Module) and result was:

+ Advanced ECC: 64GB (OK)

+ Mirroring: 32 GB (OK)

+ Independent (Optimizer): 96GB (OK)

+ Spare: 64GB (not OK. In hardware manual said there was no spare mode. And if there was spared mode, System memory must be 72GB.

Any one can help me?

Thanks,

nampnx

Dell M1000e Immediately Returns to Standby

Our M1000e enclosure recently suffered some water damage. The LCD panel was soaked, but as far as we can tell, no water entered the chassis. We followed the instructions to take it apart and dry it out for 36 hours.

When we attempt to power it up, the chassis will power on and then proceed to initiate shutdown within 15 seconds. "racadm racdump" reports that all modules (including chassis) are healthy.

There are no errors in the hardware log. CMC log shows that powerup initiated -> powerup completed -> shutdown initiated -> shutdown completed within 1 minute without any indication of what or why the shutdown was initiated.

Any ideas? Is there any way to turn on more verbose logging/debugging?

Error

I have a new Dell Poweredge M1000e server . I'm trying to do configure for chassis (Root Password , Power supply redundancy ... etc) but it doesn't do any thing.always give me an error 0x012 or some thing like that, and sometimes give me "operation successful" but no thing that i configure is done!!!

the system is connected through CMC . and i can get the server locally and remotely via " CMC , CLI , KVM .....etc"

but any small configuration i did it through CMC  failed. for example i tried to configure power supply redundancy to "AC redundancy" or "power redundancy" and active dynamic management . it prompt to me " operation successful" ,but nothing is done .

and tried to give CMC a static ip but doesn't work even after reset it via " racreset command " through KVM console .

i even couldn't change the chassis name Image may be NSFW.

Options to update a Poweredge R710 server with latest firmware when ESXi 5.0 is installed

Hello,

What are my options to update the Poweredge R710 server when ESXi 5.0 is installed?

Unfortunately is the Lifecylce Controller broken, it is in a loop and restart the server all the time until I pull the plugs off the server.

As another way I downloaded the Dell Repository Manager 1.4 and created the Linux V440 bundle. I was able to export the bundle to a SUU iso. Can I now boot the server with this ISO and apply the firmwares?

Actually I wanted to use the deployment media option, but it fails to create the ISO.

Uff, I don't have an easy time to upgrade my servers with the new firmwares.

Thanks,

Edy

which Dell rack servers have shallow footprints

I am looking for a new or used Dell server that has a depth of under 18."  Looks like the R210 has this.  Anyone aware of others?

R610 fan connector

Hi,

Does anyone knows the name of this connector? It's a 4/8 pin but no clue really.

I'm asking because I can't stand the server noise anymore and I'm looking forward to replace the coolers no matter if that's an unsupported path.

Any input would be appreciated.

Dell PE 6850 Memory and Processor problems

Good day everyone,
I have a 6850 with serial number ***** (service tag removed for security purposes) , from the beginning he showed an error -E07F0 PROC 4 IERR, PROC 3 IERR , then I ran Dell Memory test (DELL_32-BIT-DIAGNOSTICS_5118-3_R212797(1)) test. The server started to show an error :
CPU 04 detected a memory data miscompare at address
02_66b00008H      Actual: 00000000h    Expected :FFFFFFFFh.
Then I pulled out all memory brushed rubber band, then the server is operating normally, and no errors to be.
I would like to know what could be the problem? Maybe it's in the motherboard?

Change boot drive PE 2950

We have a PE 2950 and have purchased a new SATA hard drive which will become the new OS drive and need to change the default boot drive. Long story short, when the server was initially configured, the C drive was only given 12GB and is now 99% full. We have attempted to expand the C drive partition multiple times to no avail.

We are running Server 2003 R2 x86 with 3 SAS drives (RAID 5) plus the new SATA drive on a PERC 5/i. We have restored the entire C drive to the new HD from a backup and attempted to boot from the new drive but at no point did the BIOS give the option. We tried removing the 3 'old' drives but this new drive still didn't appear as a boot from option.

What are we doing wrong?

Dell Blade center Active Directory Authentication

Hi

I want to setup the dell AD auth, but have run into some problems.

I have setup the CMC to use MSAD Standard Schema

Setup 4 groups in AD to correspond to the 4 roles on the CMC

Set our root AD domain

When I try to authentcate using my AD creds, I get the following on the CMC. I can connect to the AD from any other server. I can telnet to all ports. I searched the Internet, Dell Docs and this forum. Only found 1 similar post from a few years back with no resolution.
