PE R810 4x E7-4870 maxing out 2 CPUs while other 2 idle

Hello,

I've set up a new R810 as an application server (NVR) for Blue Iris. This is a clean install of WS 2012r2, fully patched, and the application is 64bit.

When the application is running, it maxes out two of the CPUs, but doesn't seem to even consider using the other two CPUs (see screenshots).

How do I get this application to make use of all four CPUs?

Is it OK to mix 4 GB and 8 GB DIMMs in a C6100?

We have a C6100 with two blades installed, each of which has 6 x 4 GB DIMMs installed (Dell P/N 9J5WF, which are 1333 MHz, 2Rx8 low voltage parts). Is it OK to populate the remaining 6 DIMM slots with 8 GB parts with a similar speed & voltage? Or must I stick with the same 4 GB DIMMs?

Andy

High fan RPMs after CPU upgrade

I have a Dell PowerEdge R720 with 192GB ram and a two 2.6GHz 8 core processors in it.  Just the other day I upgraded the two CPUs with 2 10 core 3.0Ghz CPUs. (E5-2690 v2).  All is working just fine with the server except the fan speeds are running over 12K RPMs now and the server is very loud.  Does anyone have any idea what I can do to lower the fan speed I do not want to go back to the old CPUs if I don't have two?

Thanks

Steven

poweredge 1955 OMSA + firmware iso

We have 1955 blades in an 1855 chassis.  Ran OMSA from SLI 2.2 and storage controller was not detected so there was no visibility into raid array.  1955 is listed in compatible systems for SLI @ but is not listed in compatible systems for OMSA 8.0.1.  I've used this SLI 2.2 on other dell servers not listed in OMSA 8.0.1 compatibility list with success.  Would like to run the automated firmware update iso to see if controller update might get it to show up in OMSA but did not see an iso for 1955 from   Is there a firmware iso available for 1955 and assuming we can get all firmware updated, should OMSA on SLI 2.2 be able to detect the hardware correctly afterwards?  Thanks

Poweredge 1900 No power

I recently was given a poweredge 1900 server. I don't get any power and no lights. Does the motherboard have a light on it ? Is their any way to test the power supply?  What else would keep it from getting power?  Do these require special power or just standard wall power or do I need a upc?

kvm 2162 ds Align Local Cursor doesn't work

I'm trying to use a KVM 2162 DS to remotely access a rack of servers.

Everything works fine on the local user interface ( local UI).

The on board web interface ( OBWI ) works fine.

After updating the firmware to overcome the javascript security issue I can load the viewer fine as well but I can't get the mouse to work.  I have "enhanced pointer precision" turned off on both the remote system and the target systems.  I've clicked automatic video sync. I've clicked Align Local Cursor.  But nothing I have found or done has gotten my remote and local cursors to line up and make the digital kvm usable for remote access/management of the connected servers.

When I click Align Local Cursor the cursors do not line up.  The cursor for the managed system goes to the corner of the view.  The cursor for the system I'm remoting from stays on the button for align local cursor.

Moving the mouse does move the cursors but with them not lined up there's always part of screen that is unreachable.  Entering single cursor mode doesn't help.   It makes the cursor on the system I'm remoting from disappear but it doesn't free the cursor on the target system to freely move throughout all of the view.

Can anyone explain what is going on and how to fix it?

Problème with internal switch VRTX

Hello,

One of our customers owns a VRTX with 2 M620 servers. Except that we can not ping the server on the 2nd slot. The configurations of the 2 switches internally are the same yet we manage to ping the esx on the 1st slot.

The problem occurred after a power failure.

- the VLAN configurations are good because I have compared the 2 internal switches slot 1 and 2 are identical everywhere.

- as I have no hand at all on the 5.5 esxi in question, I can only access the console. No esx cli nor ssh.

Nevertheless in pj the capture for the logs "VMware ESXi Observation log (vobd)"

- the esxi server can not be reached anywhere (from the external switch on the top schema or from the first slot 1 server.

- server 1 is managed well via vsphere but the second because no network.

But it still happens to ping himself.

- in the CMC logs I find no error at all.

- to cross the blades I plan to do it but this weekend.

Anyone have idea please?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

mirror hard drive

I have an old PowerEdge 2950 with a PERC 5/i.  It has two sets of hard drives.   The mirrored set was running out of space, so I swapped one of the 30GB with a 100GB let it mirror then did the other.   It worked.   Went to expand the drive to use the new space, Windows doesn't recognize the new drive space.   Rebooted and did a ctrl R and went into the PERC utility, it does not recognize that the new drives.   It thinks the mirror is still 30 GB.    How do I get the PERC utility to recognize the new drives so I can expand to the new space without rebuilding the OS?

PE T430 - Power Input Detection Issues

$

We have a T430 with Dual 495w PSUs with each PSU connected to an independent UPS.

PSU1 is connected to UPS1.

PSU2 is connected to UPS2.

Whenever there is a power blip/fluctuation, PSU2 claims to have lost input power and as expected reports...

Power supply redundancy is lost. Message ID: RDU0012
The power input for power supply 2 is lost. Message ID: PSU0003
Front panel led, OMSA, IDRAC all reflect the same power loss to PSU2, however, the PSU lights remain green throughout like they never lost input power at all. And if I remove power to PSU1, PSU2 takes the full load without issue. So, obviously this is a false alarm and the system is in a power redundant state despite the alert. Or the power is restored almost instantaneously but the system doesnt detect that input power to PSU2 has been restored.
It seems like the power fluctuation causes the system to believe PSU2 is not getting power input when in fact it is.
If I manually remove power to PSU2, no further alerts are generated. I have to either completely turn-off and turn-on the system, or remove and re-seat the PSU2 for the system to detect that it has regained PSU redundancy.
Any idea what might be causing this and possible solutions?
All firmware is updated to the latest versions. The UPS2 is not faulty as we have another server connected in a similar configuration and that system does not lose power to either of its PSUs.
Server1 (T430) : PSU1 (495w) - UPS1 (2kv) - no power issues detected
Server2 (T420) : PSU1 (495w) - UPS1 (2kv) - no power issues detected
Server1 (T430) : PSU2 (495w) - UPS2 (2kv) - input power lost
Server2 (T420) : PSU2 (495w) - UPS2 (2kv) - no power issues detected

Dell T320 Fan speed when using PERC 310 flashed to LSI IT mode

Hi All,

I'm using a dell T320 as a VM host / ZFS server. I'm Running ESXi 6.5 and one of the VMs is FreeNAS. I have flashed the PERC 310 raid card to LSI IT firmware and direct pass it to the FreeNAS VM for ZFS. Everything work as expected. The only issue is that the fan spins up to 32% as soon as a disk is inserted into the drive back plane. I believe that this is because the iDRAC cannot see the HDDs temps as the raid card is now a HBA with LSI firmware. Is there any way to fix this issue. The ambient temp is 20degC so the fan should be at minimum speed. If all of the drives are removed from the back plain the fan is at minimum speed but as soon as a drive is inserted the fan spins up.

Kind Regards,

Simon

Hi all,

I have a query which may seems trivial

Is possible to upgrade a FC HBA firmware on a given server - let's say one R710

And then transfer the same FC HBA to a new R710 server, will the HBA firmware remains updated?

Thanks,

Kris

OS Installation issue in PowerEdge R510

$

Hi, so I am using Dell Poweredge R510 servers for Huawei softswitch. Recently there was an act of sabotage in my company and the server hard drivers were completely wiped. So I reinstalled the Windows server 2003 R2 but could not activate it since the OEM key was not preserved. Now Huawei wants me to provide with some data, so they can provide me with a new OEM key but 30-days trial period was over and I could not log in. So I decided to reinstall windows again. But this time I am stuck at the OS Deployment stage in Unified server configurator. When the step where I load the drivers comes, I load the DVD for drivers, provided by Dell, but USC does not recognize anything. I have checked the DVD in other computers and it works fine. I have also checked other CD/DVD in the DVD-ROM  drive to check the hardware and those DVDs are detected, but USC does not find driver catalog there. I also tried to manually install the OS, but where the option for loading RAID driver comes, there is only option for inserting floppy drive, but this model does not have any floppy drive. Can anyone suggest me how to proceed with the problem? ( I need to install Windows Server 2003 R2 since this is required by Huawei).
