I need to upgrade the fileserver hardware and software for a small, 25 user, business. We are a graphics business. We have about 8 artists on Macs and another 15 or so users on macs and pc's. We currently have an old mac server with approx. 800gb of data and growing. Any suggestions on hardware models,  configuration and OS?

Thank you

Firmware update list:

1. OS Driver Pack

2. Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller

3. Life Cycle Controller

4. Physical Disk

5. Broadcom Nextreme 577xx/578xx 1 GB Ethernet/10 Gb Ethernet

Thanks..

Raid Card - Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already

Hi,

I have a Dell R210ii am I am try to use a Adaptec 6405E RAID card in.
I am running the latest BIOS on the Dell.

Every time I boot it is getting to the end of Dell splash screen loader and it then says the following.
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
Efi_DriverSupported:PCI IO Opened already, Status=14
I've looked in the BIOS and the IRQ for NIC1, Embedded USB ECHI Controller 2 and Slot 1 RAID Controller are all using the same IRQ number.
Changing any of the values for these changes the number on all.

Anyone have any advice on this?

Daniel

We have a Dell PowerEdge T710 server with only 1 processor and we are looking at installing 2 x 16GB of RAM.

The server is set to optimizer mode. With this configuration can we install only the 2 sticks of RAM or will we need to buy a third?

Slow performance Dell PowerEdge T710

$

Since I have added new memory to our Dell PowerEdge T710 server certain tasks are taking a lot longer to complete. I upgraded from 6 x 1GB stick or RAM to 2 x 8GB sticks of RAM.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/p/19635694/20774194#20774194

For example when I open up task manager it takes over 10 seconds to display and then when I move across the tabs it says not responding and then takes a couple of minutes to display the next tabs information.

Also a robocopy job takes a lot longer to complete now. I am writing from a NAS to external USB 3.0 drive attached to the T710.

PowerEdge 2900iii, maximum RAM ???

$

hi all,

The spec sheet of the 2900iii says it supports 48GB of RAM (double that when 8GB DIMM become available). That should therefore supports a total of 96GB. I installed 12 x 8GB DIMM modules and when booting, the system says it can only support 64GB. I have the latest BIOS.

Any idea or info about this?

PowerEdge Replacement Rack Mount Kit

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a way to get replacement parts for the rack mount kits?

We have some servers where the kits weren't used initially and now some of the parts have gone missing.

Is it possible to track down replacement parts?

Thank you,

Cheers

Dell R710 - Memory Configuration

$

Hi All,

I'm sure I'm missing something but I've read the two technical documents regarding memory configuration in the Dell R710.

I've got a server that currently has 48GB in laid out as follows

A1 - 4GB

A4 - 4GB

A2 - 4GB

A5 - 4GB

A3 - 4GB

A6 - 4GB

(This is then the same on the B side)

According to the BIOS it's set to 'Optimized'

Now I have 2x16GB Sticks which I wanted to install, the only way I could get it working without the BIOS moaning was to install as follows:

A2 - 16GB

A5 - 4GB

A8 - 4GB

(Duplicated on B side)

Giving 72GB.

As I read the manual I should be able to mix memory sizes for 'optimized' as long as I go from A1 to A9 and so I have a further 6x4GB sticks left I want to install.

My logic is I can fill from A1 to A9, mixing the 16GB in, however when I try I get the error about A1/A2/A3 needing to be the same?

Am I missing something simple? I'm unable to make changes in the BIOS, the memory is all the same type (Purchased from Dell)

Hi

I have a Fan redundancy lost alarm appearing on my R710 servers. There are supposed to be 5 Fans installed but I have only 4 at the moment.

We are having some problems acquiring these fans from the local dealer of DELL so is there anyway to temporarily disable this alarm in the BIOS till we receive the fans.

Thanks

I recently purchased a PowserEdge T110 for our church.   However, I see that the power backup unit is setup on a 220v system.   How do I setup the PE T110 11 to accept 220v power?   Previous older tower units that I've worked with had a switch in the back but this one does not seem to have one.

PE R710 DIMM population

I just bought a Dell Poweredge R710, it came with 18x 2GB DDR3 UDIMMs, so 36GB total memory.

In an attememp to increase total memory, i've 2x addition 16GB DDR3 UDIMM QuadRank.

I've just tried every combination I could, but could not get past 52 GB total, with BIOS warning of different geometry.

What's the best I can do with 16x 2GB + 2x 16 GB DIMMs? Would an addition 16GB DIMM help?

We bought a lot of servers included T110, R210 and R510.  All servers are running Windows 2003R2 or Windows 2008R2.  We would like to know the HDD's, CPU, Ram or mother the MTBF and MTTF.  For e.g. the HDD can run 200,000+ hours, we can get this information for future to purchase the new Server.

Thanks a lot

DELL UPS W1920

Hi all,

if this a wrong forum to post this question, let me know, but it's the closest one to the subject matter that I found.

We have a UPS W1920, Dell model P/N H928N,  it has been off for a while. When we have tried to use it again, once pressed the power button (On/Off button), nothing happens, it's dead.

The only answer that I've found to such problem is on Dell Line-Interactive Rack UPS
1000W, 1920/1500W, and 2700/2300W - User Guide, where it's stated:

Alarm or Condition: The UPS does not start. (The LCD is off.)

Possible cause: Power is not connected.

Action: Check the power cord connections. Also ensure that the battery is plugged in.

The power cord is connected and it supplies power, we have accessed the "internal battery connector" and we can check that it supplies 24 Volts to the batteries. Obviously the batteries are dead, all them connected supply through the "battery connector" around 72 Volts, and individually some ones are empty, no volts.

The question that I'm posting is if there is any kind of technical guide or similar to get more insight on the UPS to try to reborn it. Or if somebody can point me if with new batteries it would restart (the UPS remains shutdown with no alert when the batteries are totally useless).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Domain Functional levels and Dell patching

Hi,

We want to take our Domain functional levels from 2003 - 2012 in windows, but we want to update and patch the Poweredge M610 that the operating system sits on.

Currently these are the version on the server.

CC version 3.21

BIOS 6.0.7

Firmware IDRAC6 3.30

Lifecycle controller 1.5.1.57

Is it a question of just downloading the latest patches a fixes and loaded on to the box.

We have a standalone system and for security reason cannot connect the box to the internet.

Are there any gotcha's out their?

Thanks si

I have a server (r630)with an onboard intel X710 which is a converged adapter (2 copper and 2 sfp ports)

When I boot the server I only see the 2 copper nics and not the SFP connected nics.

When i check the BIOS they also do not show up only copper nics and an extra Intel 10 GB nic in the pci slot we added.

What am I missing here?

PowerEdge 2950 dumb question

We have a PowerEdge 2950 that is giving us an E2022 Failure error at startup. The server has jobs that need to be run on our printing presses. We have an identical 2950 that has less critical data on it. Now for the dumb question can I take the drives from the bad 2950 and put them in the good 2950. Will I blow things up or will this work.

Thanks, for not laughing. We are desperate.
