Replace the battery of a RAID controller PERC 4/Di ?

Hello,

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2600 (running Windows 2003), whom the battery of RAID controller PERC 4/Di has to be replaced.

It's the first time that I've to do this operation and I've some questions.

Can I lost the RAID configuration by changing this battery?
Should I do this change quickly as possible to avoid losing this configuration?

Do I have to turn off the server before to change the battery (with unplugged power)?
Or can I do it while the system runs?

Thank you,
Chris

NIC Teaming on R710

Would like to setup nic teaming on a PowerEdge R710 however I am not finding much information on it.

The server was setup with Server 2008 R2 last year manually (meaning the tech installed the software using a MS dvd.

I found a post that said the instructions are here:

www.dell.com/.../manuals

I looked through all the manuals and did not see it mentioned.

Where are the instructions or what is involved in getting the dual nics teaming?

Installing DRAC in a PE 2900

I have a PowerEdge 2900 and just purchased a WW126 DRAC5 remote access card with long cables.  The DRAC documentation indicates that the hardware installation procedure is in the computer hardware manual.  It isn't.  Nor is it in the motherboard manual.

In the motherboard manual I don't see any connectors that look likely for places to plug in the cables.  Do they go into the floppy and IDE connectors or what?

On two PowerEdge T605 I get for the internal disk : SATA link up 1.5 Gbps. Is this a HWdrivers compatibility issue ?

Hi All,

When running : "dmeg | grep ata1", I'm getting the following:

ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 mmio m8192@0xee2fe000 port 0xee2fe000 irq 10
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 320)
ata1.00: ATA-7: ST3160812AS, 3.ADJ, max UDMA/133
ata1.00: 312500000 sectors, multi 8: LBA48 NCQ (depth 0/32)
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133

Checking the HD (ST3160812AS) spec shows it can do 3.0Gbps.

I have two question relate to my two T605 poweredge servers:

1) Does the T605 support SATA speeds beyond 1.5 ?
2) If so, do I need to have a special linux driver to get the extra speed  ?

Thank you,

Roy

Can I use a RAID Controller Card Adaptec SCSI 39160 ?

Hello,

I've a Dell PowerEdge 2600 (running Windows 2003), whom the RAID controller PERC 4/Di (integrated) appears to be faulty.

I continually get the message "Warning Embedded RAID firmware is not present", while I bought a new PERC 4/Di kit whose I've tried all components (battery, memory module and PERC connector)!
I've checked on the Web, and it sounds that this problem comes from motherboard.

I've a RAID Controller Card "Adaptec SCSI 39160" (PCI-to-SCSI adapter) that came with this server and I've never installed.

Is it possible to install this RAID Controller Card and use it with the original drive bays, included in this server?

If yes, does this RAID Controller Card can function as the integrated PERC (via the motherboard)?
Or, does this RAID Controller Card has to be connected to to SCSIA and SCSIB backplane board connectors?

Thank you for your help :)

R710 PSU requirements

Hello,

I recently tried to upgrade an R710 server from a single E5520 CPU and 2x2GB of RAM to Dual X5650's and 6x8GB of RAM. The server also has a Perc 6i and 3x146GB drives. However when I did the upgrade there were warning like this;

"Alert! Power required exceeds PSU wattage. Check PSU and system configuration."

The server boots after a restart and warning about possible degradation in performance. The server only has a single 570W PSU. I'm looking for the cheapest way to resolve the issue. Would adding a secondary 570W PSU work? Or do I have to go with the high output 870W unit?

Also, I'm a big surprised by the error. The X5650 is a 95W CPU just like a lot of the others. The manuals for both the 570W and 870W PSU seem outdated as they both only mention the "maximum" configuration to be Dual 5500 model Xeon (no mention of 5600 model). But the "maximum" configuration for the 570W PSU referenced Dual 5500 Xeon processors that are 95W just like the ones I have. So to me it makes no sense why it shouldn't work.

Thanks.

PowerEdge T110ii Memory upgrade, disaster.

Hello,

I need some assistance, I recently made a purchase of some memory to upgrade my PowerEdge T110II. Unfortunately, the person I bought my new memory from didn't add the correct details on the item listing and I had neglected to check the internet to make sure that I was making the right choice.

When I received the modules, I installed them and powered up my server and found that the diagnostic lights were being highlighted. It went to a 1-3 and to a static 1. I read the manual and found that the static 1 light was to indicate that no memory was being detected.

The 3x modules are 8GB 1gx72 DDR PC3 10600 - I've had a quick read and found that these were registered modules which is a bummer due to my PowerEdge T110II only supporting Unbuffered Memory Modules.

I have no problems upgrading the server if needs be (within reason) I was originally planning to upgrade over the next few months.

Now I've read that if I upgraded the CPU to an Xeon then this would probably overcome my issue...now before I do something drastic like buying a new processor, I just wanted to confirm with this community that this is correct?

My current CPU is a Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G620 @ 2.60GHz.

If any information is required, please ask and I will gladly assist.
Thank you for your assistance. [:)]

Dell R620: HDDs become auto "removed" and "installed" in quick succession

As you can see from the R620 SEL below, the drives go from a “removed” state to “installed” state in a matter of 3-5 minutes. Every “removed” event results in a drive rebuild. This happens automatically.

Please suggest a fix.

Poweredge T20 purchase help?

$

I am considering my first purchase, namely the Dell 22 inch monitor E series 2214H and a Poweredge T20.

Here's a few questions:

  • What are the advantages of buying he T20 from Dell, because Dell wants $515+tax,and E fee- $583.76,,but I can get it from Tigerdrect.ca for $379.99 + tax and shipping, probably about $500?
  • One thing I thought was weird is on Oct 31,the price was a lot lower, then the next day,it went up $200,especially in the xeon model 's case.
  • What's the difference and,if I did,can I still buy parts,namely the DVD/RW,or Bluray Writer drive from Dell?

Other than that, time for me to learn how to put an OS on a USB flash drive,or cheat and buy it from osdisc.com...

Currently, this will be used at home, but,I am looking to get into some kind of I.T. Biz up the road.

Thoughts and help,please?
