Hi and first, sorry if this is not the best place for this question, I've only just joined.
I've just put a new hard disk into a Dell 2950, to increase the size of a virtual, 'E' drive, in a Windows 2008 server system.
The disk was added and using Dell Openmanage server Administrator the array was reconfigured. You could tell by the LED's on the drives that things were going normally. The volume was still on line and could be accessed, although the server was disconnected from the network and no one else was accessing the machine.
I left work today about 1 pm and the reconfiguration was 60% complete. No concerns so far.
A question though, if the reconfigure fails for any reason, what happens? Does the virtual disk simply go back to the state it was in before the new disk was added? Or is data lost, as parts of it will have, 'disappeared' from the existing disks, after being copied to the newly added disk?
If there is a recovery procedure, what is it?
