I have searched all over the internet but could not find any solution.
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1950 server that was working fine (tested ESXi 5.1, Ubuntu 12.04, Windows Server 2008 R2) until I decided to update firmwares and drivers. To do that I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 and from Dell Support page downloaded the correct BIOS, BMC, RAID, network adapter and other firmwares. I started by updating BIOS from 1.1.0 to 2.7.0 and then one by one successfully installed other updates. Everything seemed to bee ok as Windows was working fine and in OMSA I did not see any errors.
After I installed the drivers I wanted to install Ubuntu 12.04. The installation went ok, but when the server booted up the OS the fans kicked in at full power and the server restarted showing that there has been a fatal error. I have seen "E1410" error, "E171F PCIE Fatal Err B0 D3 F0" error.
Tried to reinstall Ubuntu several times, but always the same thing. What I noticed is that when installing Ubuntu it fails to configure network with the first attempt all the time and the same when installing Debian (this problem did not occur before the firmware updates).
After I failed to install Linux I tried to install Windows Server 2008 R2 and it installed without any problems.
Hardware info:
PowerEdge 1950
CPU: Two Dual Core Xeon 5160 3Ghz
RAM: 16GB
RAID: PERC 5/i
No DRAC card
What could be the problem? Is there any way to resolve this?
Thank You!
