Hi,
I primarily work with NICs using the R630 with two processors. I have been trying to figure out how the PCIe bus is connected to the two sockets but the details seem to elude me.
As stated in the technical guide for the R630, the E5-2600 v3 supports 40 PCIe lanes. I use servers with the 3 PCIe slot option. The owner's manual for the R630 state that the two PCIe slots in riser 1 are connected to processor 2 while the slot in riser 3 connects to processor 1 (riser 2 does not exist).
The owners manual also state the riser 1 slots can only be used when processor 2 is installed. Does this mean that we have two independent PCIe busses in the R630 ? One from processor 2 which connects to riser 1, and one from processor 1 which connects to riser 3 and the NDC ?
I always assumed the PCIe links were connected somewhat like I have described. But recently I heard someone refer to the R630 as "Dual Socket Single Bus". Naturally, I had to investigate - but I can't really find any docs with the level of detail I need. Any help would be much appreciated.
Best regards,
Jesper
