R520: vFlash initialization resulted in iDRAC7 failure

Hi,

this topic continues the case started at (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/19681047)

Seeking for a way to make the XEON E5 2440 v.1 CPU temperature become monitored through iDRAC7 on my Dell R520 server (let's say it server A), I've noticed that iDRAC7 on one another of my servers of the same model (server B) does monitor CPU temperature (XEON E5 2420 v.2), and the iDRAC7 firmware at B is 1.57.57, unlike one at A, which is 1.20.20 there. I decided trying to upgrade the iDRAC7 firmware at A, in order to see if this would help to enable A iDRAC to mon the CPU temp. First of all, I've tried to backup my current state to vFlash SD card (8GB), installed in A iDRAC. It was enabled, not write protected, not initialized, so it had to be initialized first. I've logged on to A iDRAC7 under an administrator account, having "Access Virtual Media" privelege granted. And then pressed "Initialize" button at "vFlash" tab in "Server" left tree branch. That's all.Web GUI started to "roll its blue bagel", became inaccessible.

Everything I've seen afterwards (re-logon), were empty tabs and lists in A iDRAC7 Web GUI, where everything became "Unknown", grey, unset, questionable and opening "for years". It was looking like my quite innocent actions have killed the current configuration, but at the same time A iDRAC still remebers it's IP and my login creds, responding "for years", though. Different "omreport" CLI subcommands still provide logs and states, some of those I previously observerd via A iDRAC web GUI. Looking at the results of "omreport chassis removableflashmedia" quite alarms, saying the "Type" and "Available size" of my vFlash are "Unknown". It looks like misinitialization have ended the poor vFlash SD. Want to hope it's possible to reinitialize it somehow, though.

If to say my confidence in following with A iDRAC7 firmware update a bit shaken, that would be true.

What tactics would you propose in order to make the problem A iDRAC7 firmware finally updated upto 1.57.57 version, and, if possible, having my victim vFlash brought to life again?

Great thanks in advance!
