Upgrade Power Supply on a Dell t110 ii

Hello,

I am in the process of determining whether or not to upgrade the graphics card on my current server. I am interested in turning this into a gaming rig as I don't really use it for any server related tasks at home anymore, and it has a pretty good processor. As a result I have been floating around some forums lately and received a lot of helpful information.

The only issue I am having now is power related. The graphics card I would like to run is the Nvidia GTX 970. This physically will have no issue, however it requires a minimum 500w power supply, and its "Graphics card power" is 145w. The Dell t110 ii has a 305w power supply. And I have read that it supports a maximum of 25w per slot, and is not recommended all at once.

So the new complexity I have is upgrading the power supply. Even if I physically am able to swap out the power supplies the motherboard seems like it will not be able to provide adequate power to my GPU.

I was curious on if there was more information on how I could go about upgrading this if at all. It is looking more and more grim as I read into it, but since this is a dell machine I figured I couldn't go wrong asking some of the Dell community for advice!

Thanks!
