PowerEdge R710 compatibility with SSDs

I have a number of Dell PowerEdge R710s that were looking to upgrade to use solid state drives.

Swapping out the HDDs (which were originally 1-TB Western Digital WD1003FBYX-1) for the SSDs (Intel 600GB SSD DC S3500 Series) has lead to issues. Were using 4 drives, and the 4th drive in the drive bay 3 is not being recognized by the system. I've gone through some troubleshooting steps to remedy this:

1. I thought at first this was a failed drive. I swapped out that SSD for one I knew was functional, but recieved the same unrecognized error.

2. Thought the BIOS firware needed updated. I updated the BIOS firware from 6.2.3 to 6.4.0. Still did not remedy the issue.

3. Attempted to update the firmware of the Dell 6/ iR controller, but that was up to date already.

I'll admit I'm new to hardware upgrades, so is there something I missed looking at? Or are my SSDs not compatible with this system?

Thanks
