We just got in a Poweredge R730xd and i have to put a 2012 R2 image on it. I'm booting into a WinPE3 disk which was built on a Win7 source with the Dell drivers for this R730xd integrated using the MS WAIK. I have been doing things this way for a long time now but with this particular server it boots WinPE and I'm left without the KVM keyboard / mouse at the command line. The KVM is connected via USB. I have WinPE booting off a stick because the server has no optical drive. Frankly I don't need the mouse but I definitely need the keyboard functionality to map to a share etc. It's interesting the USB issues that I've been seeing on newer Dells, for example even when we're talking about the new Precisions like the T3600 series. If you have chipset drivers for the T3500 on an image along with T3600 drivers you lose USB keyboard and mouse on one or the other machine. You have to now break out into entirely separate images for both machines. I never recall a single USB issue like this even with drivers for 4 or 5 disparate models on Win7 or 2008 R2. Is this a new intel / USB driver problem we're going to face from now on when imaging systems? Appreciate any suggestions as I've made about 6 revs of USB sticks today and no luck.
