Poweredge R610 Bios options - Processor Settings - Virtualization Technology

$

Hello.

We just bought 4 Poweredge R610 server, and when exploring the Bios configuration options, under 'Processor Settings', there is this: Virtualization Technology. I did some search in Dell website, user manuals, google, but I can't find a place that actually could tell me what is this Virtualization Technology about.

Can anyone one point me out some paper, document, site, that explains what this is?

Thank you.

DELL PE T300 NIC Drivers Needed

Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server (32-bit) shows the following NICs (2) installed:

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet

The Driver Version 11.7.2.0

I'm told these drivers are 'way out of date.

I've spent a big part of today trying to find the download for my system (4DF4NK1) so that I can get these drivers current but I'm lost!  The descriptions for the downloads are confusing and don't offer sufficient explanations for how to install them.

The installation instructions seem to require that I supply a DOS-Bootable diskette and copy the desired files to it for driver updates.

I gather if I had a DOS system running on this server, I'd be fine.

If I KNEW what files needed to be copied to the diskette, perhaps I'd be better off.

I apologize for the tone of this post but it's been a long day of spinning wheels!

Can anyone offer some helpful guidance?

PowerEdge 2900 CPU upgrade

I need to upgrade the CPU in my

PowerEdge 2900

[Service Tag removed per privacy policy]

I contacted Dell support and they gave me a list of quad core CPU's that would work with this box. I ordered two and I get an error "Unsupported CPU configuration" at the end of the POST.

I went down the list and ordered the next slower chips (still Quad Core Xenon CPUs) and again, the same trouble. Will not POST. I get the error message AT THE END of the POST "Unsupported CPU configuration" and the system halts.

I need to get this upgraded and running ASAP. Does anyone know of a CPU type (quad core) that will work with this? Even though the BIOS shows (after the BIOS upgrade to 2.7 ???) that the CPU's are supported the system halts.

Any advise is welcomed! The server still runs great. We just need to put the thing to work with more horsepower. Otherwise it's an anchor.

Server stuck at F1 or F2 prompt

Hello,

I have a server that will not boot up properly.  It goes only so far, then sits at the F1 to continue or F2 to Configure (I think) promps.

There are these kinds of statements in the Alert Log:  Controller event log: Inserted: PD 02(e0x20/s2): Controller 0 (PERC H700 Integrated)

Nobody is doing anything with the physical drives.  This server has been up and running perfectly for several months.  There are no errors in the logs and all system show up GREEN and healthy both in OMSA and OME.

I just updated the controller firmware and that did not help.  Any ideas on where to look or what may be causing this issue?

Many thanks!

Hello,

I need to install NVIDIA Tesla K20 into a PowerEdge T620 server.
The GPU requires two 6-pin PCI-e connectors connected to power, I'm wondering what kinds of cables I need to get and where should I plug in. I briefly looked inside of the server, but I couldn't find proper cables or slots for them.

Thanks!

T620 RHEL6 : How to recognize external PCIe expansion card via PCIe bus extender

$

Dear users:

I intermittently detect an PCIe (x1 gen 1) expansion card on an external chassis

The chassis is an iCUBE from MAxexpansion.  I have  one adapter card (x8 Gen2) on slot #1

another in the external chassis and two open x8 slots in the external chassis.

Only one slot is occupied by the expansion card (x1 Gen 1.0)

BIOS diagnostics on PCIe buses shows slot 7 is downgraded (true but seemingly irrelevant)

Is there anyone who has tried to extend their PCIe bus successfully?

Thanks in advance,

Poweredge T610 Windows Server 2012 R2 Onboard Graphics Driver - Matrox?

$

Hi, So I just upgraded our t610 server to windows server 2012 r2, But unfortunately I have run into an issue where the default driver for the graphics adapter is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter."  I did some research and found out that the onboard graphics chipset is a Matrox Card, I tried many different manual adapter installations but with no avail.  The reason I am even trying to find the proper driver is b/c the current one does not properly detect resolutions for any of the monitors that I plug into the server, therefore all images on the screen are slightly distorted.  Can someone please help me pinpoint a compatible driver for manual installation?

SUU won't start on new R420

I have a fresh install of Server 2012 R2 and I downloaded the latest SUU and wrote it to a USB Flash Drive.

When I run it, I get the splash screen, but that's it.  It stays there forever and never proceeds to the program itself.

Does SUU not run from USB drives?  Should I copy the entire flash drive (8.6GB) to the hard drive of the server and run it?  The ISO is too big for a DVD.

PowerEdge T610 Fails to boot

My PowerEdge T610 has stopped booting this morning. It now runs in a continual cycle of trying to boot for about 1-3 seconds then it appears to crash. After being off for a few seconds it trys to boot again and crashes again after a couple seconds.

Basically all the lights on the front flash on and the LCD screen says "System Booting..." and then it all crashes within the first couple seconds of the fan revving up. I get nothing on my monitor screen to even show me it is trying to start into BIOS.

Any ideas or directions you could point me in would be much appreciated.

R720xd noise level

$

Hello,  I have several R715's and R515's all AMD servers.  They run great and the noise level is minimum.

We recently purchased our first Intel servers, two R720xd's.  We went with this model only because of the chassis configuration allowing many more hard drives.

The units are working but extremely noisy.  When our other servers first turn on, the fans make a really loud noise like a jet is taking off.  Well the R720xd sounds like that ALL THE TIME.  Is this the normal noise level for this server?  We have a closed server room with metal door and it can still be heard from outside the room.  Had I known this model was so noisy, I wouldn't of purchased it.  Dell needs to start publishing noise levels if not already.
