I have a T610 with 2 Xeon E5606 and 48GB memory. During boot I get the memory configuration error to see how I should have it installed. Currently its installed as such:
A1:16GB A2:2GB A3:2GB A4:2G A5:2GB A6:Empty
B1:16GB B2:2GB B3:2GB B4:2GB B5:2GB B6:EMPTY
Bios is set to optimizer mode. Is this not correct? Do I need to remove A5 & B5 (channel 2)? What can I do to remove this message and get better performance?
I have a T410 poweredge server with a PERC 6/i adapter. I just replaced the Perc battery and noticed in Open Management Console that error 2320 is showing (once). Prior to it, error 2319 showed twice. Error 2320 reads:
"Single-bit ECC error. The controller DIMM is critically degraded.: Controller 0 (PERC 6/i Adapter)"
The recommended action is to replace the PERC DIMM....I looked in the hardware guide and searched online, I do not even see a DIMM on this controller...the PERC 6/e looks like it has a DIMM but not the 6/i. I popped open another T410 we have that has the same PERC adapter, and there is no DIMM that I can see on the PERC card. Also, there are no warnings showing in OMC, just the error recorded... can someone point me to where I would find this DIMM to replace? A tutorial or replacement guide would be great...the hardware guide doesn't even mention PERC dimm's for this controller. Is there really an imminent data corruption threat from this? From what I've read single ECC errors usually correct themselves and are not that big of a deal.

We've recently deployed Dell R510 server which is randomly crashing and not showing much evidence of the crash in iDrac. Here is the servers specs :
2 x L5640
RAM 64GB
12x3TB Sata
HBA LSI-9211 Controller
OS : FreeBSD-10.2
The crash event generated in iDrac only tells 'A Fatal IO error' and nothing else. Here is the screenshot of logged event :

Does anyone know if the PowerEdge 860 PCI risers are v1 or v2 PCI Spec? I want to add a USB 3 card to an existing system and see that it matters to the card I'm interested in.
I just recovered a server that had gone dead taking with it one the two mirrored 750GB SATA drives it was fitted with.
I am now booting from a single SAS 146GB that the PERC5i controller has setup in Raid 0, which I plan to mirror in a few weeks time when a matching drive arrives. I do not plan to run beyond Raid 1 (mirroring).
I wish to increase the storage capacity by adding the good 750GB SATA drive into the system but irrespective of which bay I put it into, the 750 GB drive does not show up as additional storage. I've reloaded Server 2008 on both 146 and 750 drives and can boot from either one mounted in any storage bay, provided that I import the foreign configuration at boot up. However I prefer to boot from the newer 146Gb drive and use the bigger one for storage.
How can I add the 750Gb and / or other additional HDDs to this rig?
Hello, I'm trying to upgrade the Ram in a Poweredge R710 server.
It currently has 4 x 2GB sticks (2 sticks for each CPU, located in slots A1,2, and B1, 2,
I need to upgrade this to 32GB of RAM My original plan was to remove the 2GB sticks in slots A1,A2 and B1,B2 and replace them with 8GB sticks.
I did This but its Not working it shows black screen
Do I have the sticks in the wrong slots for this configuration? I read and re-read the hardware manual, but im a little confused.
So based on that, it seems like this should work, but i'm unsure if I'm missing something. Any suggestions?

I'm looking on purchasing a X540-AT2 10 Gb Intel daughter card. I want to keep costs down so will the daughter cards from a R720 work in an R730? I believe they look the same. If not can someone provide me with the part number?

I have a Dell PowerEdge R720 that's won't boot up. It seems to get stuck during BIOS boot.
It turns on and displays "configuring memory" then displays " configuring iDRAC" then stops on:
CPLD version : 103
I've attached a screen shot.
I've taken all the memory out apart from one DIMM. I can access the server from iDRAC. If I try and boot into BISO setup or Life-cycle it still stops at the screen attached.
BIOS version is 1.4.8
I'm new to Dell Severs and iDRAC. I tried to update the BIOS to the next version up but it's sat in the job queue " RED023: Lifecycle Controller in use. This job will start when Lifecycle Controller is available."
Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm looking for cheap Deadicated server what will be located in Europe. I want have it just for webhosting, for video files -> have them ready for streaming and for download too. So I will need some dedicated server with good bandwidth. And something at least with 1TB HDD.
I'm considering kimsufi now. Is there something else similar or better/cheaper?

We have a T320 with the stock non-redundant 350W PSU.
Until recently, we had 6 x 1TB drives in the Hot Swap bays and a Perc H310 PCI-E RAID controller.
We swapped the H310 for a H710P controller (much quicker!) and added 2 x 4TB drives in the 2 open hot swap bays. Now, when rebooting the message:
"Alert! Power required exceeds PSU wattage. Check PSU and system configuration.
Alert! Continuing system boot accepts risk that system may power down without warning
Strike the F1 key to continue. F2 to run the system setup program"
If I remove one of the 4TB drives, I can boot without problems.
Any suggestions? I am surprised that Dell have shipped a system with 8 hot-swap drive bays but not enough power to use them.

using iDRAC (in a special setup). I think I have to dig through
the stuff but my hope is you can give me basic info to let
me carry on a little bit more targeted….
in a remote LAN we run a poweredge 730. The IT service
configured an iDRAC with an internal IP. Parallelly we can access
a root server within the same remote LAN. So logged into the iDRAC via ssh
and changed the password. Unfortunately we
don’t have access to their vpn. So my questions is what could
be the best solution in order to access it:
1.) let them configure an external IP
2.) on the shell I can see that the IDRAC interface opens 4 ports:
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http
443/tcp open https
5900/tcp open vnc
Could it be a more or less good solution to make a port forwarding e.g. with iptables
from that root server in the remote LAN in order to enable access to the iDRAC from remote ?
Sorry for this beginner questions. The main thing I’d like ask is how the
client is look like, i.e. do we have a web based solution here or do I have
to download client program similar to the graphical client that let allows people
to administer an ESXi Host.

I have inherited a Dell PowerEdge T610 from a local school, therefore wanted to put it to use elsewhere. However before I do that, my plan was to upgrade the memory to just over 16GB. Currently the server has 8 Gb of RAM comprised of 2 x 4GB inserted into the slot marked A2 and A3, now I have a 16GB compatible RAM module lying around and wanted to make use of it. My question is the following can I simply remove the 4GB RAM from slot A2 and replace it with a 16GB module. Would that be a correct memory configuration?
Sorry but by profession I'm a Security advisor turn Technician (recently) therefore never had the opportunity to upgrade hardware previously.

Ho un server Dell power edge R310 (<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> service tag ) e desidero fare un upgrade di memoria RAM portandolo da 8 GB (2 moduli da 4 già installati) a 16 GB. Il reparto commerciale mi ha consigliato il segente numero di parte: A6994477.
Ho installato altri due moduli A6994477 ma il server non parte.
Ho provato anche ad installare solo i due moduli nuovi (anche uno alla volta) ma il server non parte lo stesso.
C'è qualche soluzione

I have an R530 with monolithic H330 and a single CPU.
I've ordered the second CPU and an H730 add-on card.
Can I have the part number for the second heatsink and any cable adapter, if any, for using the PERC H730 ? Actually SAS cables are directly connected to the monolithic card and I'm unable to plug them to the H730 add-on card.
Hi, i recently upgraded the memory of my r815 from 32gb to 80gb following the guidelines of the Owner’s Manual page 93 but i'm getting this warning when boot up the server. Current memory configuration its as follow:
A1-A2-A3-A4 =8 GB dualrank 1333
A5-A6-A7-A8 = 2 GB singlerank 1333
B1-B2-B3-B4 =8 GB dualrank 1333
B5-B6-B7-B8 = 2 GB singlerank 1333
The particular points that lead to this configuration are:
- In case of mixed-rank population, first populate the DIMM with the
highest number of ranks (in sockets with white release levers).
- Mixing of memory sizes and ranks is allowed for flexibility.
