Dell PowerEdge T610 (Memory Upgrade)

$

I just bought Dell 16 GB Certified Replacement Memory Module for Select Dell Systems - 2Rx4 RDIMM 1333MHz LV.

Currently, I have 8GB of RAM (1GB on each slots). After I installed this new memory and reboot the server, it shows invalid memory configuration. So, I changed the memory setting in the BIOS from "Advanced ECC" to "Optimize Memory". But, It's still only detecting my current speed of memory which is 8GB. Is there anything wrong with the memory configuration? I've tried to re-seated the new RAM.

Please help. Thanks.

Dell r720 Amber LCD light but no errors reported

Hi Guys,

basically this server is fully functioning and I cant see why it is amber?

Running the latest BIOS, the logs are clear. The amber light isn't flashing its just amber all the time.

All of them are exactly the same, running of SD cards (no errors) and only this host has  an amber LCD?

Any ideas?

Dell Replication with XenServer

Hello,

I have the following scenario were Replication is done using Dell Equallogic Ps6000xv SAN arrays from a Xenserver pool environment. We have acquired new Dell MD3220i PowerVault storage system. My question is that is it possible to add this MD3220i to the already existing Dell Equallogic SAN and replicate to it? Can the equallogic talk to the MD3221i?

My other question is how best can i do off site DR using a mix of Dell Equallogic and MD3221i SAN equipment.

Dell PowerEdge 2900 A930P-00 power supply yellow light on and server doesn t boot...

I have only one power suply (non redundant) and when plug it to wall, it start with green in AC , yellow (alarm) and off to the "power supply status"

Then, it starts and when cool calibrating proccess (when FAN coolers speed up) it shut off.

And stay in green at AC, yellow at (!), green at power button (on the front controller) and slow blinking blue LCD screen.

But no error message or anything to guide to solution...

The problem is at the Power Supply? At the Motherboard? At the FAN coolers?

Anybody has the same problem or the solution?

I d check the power supply out the server, power on it, and measure with multimeter: 12,2 Volt without any compsumption. And it stay "ON" and without yellow led (off)

Memory upgrade support: DDR3 Low Voltage ECC vs DDR3 1.5v Non-ECC (Dell T20/ Optiplex 9020/ Precision T1700)

Hello,

I recently bought the Dell T20 Xeon version which came with a Hynix ECC Low Voltage 4GB module:HMT451U7BFR8A. (I included T1700 and 9020 in the title since all three systems share the same motherboard)

I recently upgraded the memory with a single 8GB 1.5v 1600 Non-ECC Crucial module (CT102464BA160B ). So I have one Crucial module in Slot 1 and one hynix 4gb stock ECC in another. And they are working fine, I ran the memory test without any issues.

I read on the Hynix product page that his particular module supports backward compatibility with 1.5V and hence I'm assuming both the current ram modules are operating at 1.5v instead of 1.35v./

I read somewhere that if a system supports 32GB of Low voltage RAM, it can only support 16GB of 1.5v ram. Is this true?

I'm planning to add another 8GB non ecc 1.5v crucial module to make a total of 20GB.

Will this config work? Are there any special power constraints that the motherboard's on-board power regulators have? Since this motherboard only gets as 12v supply and does rest of the conversions onboard.

As for the power supply, I'm using an aftermarket 550watt unit.

I recently bought a server second hand, the PowerEdge 1950 III.

Service tag: 8B00PG1

I was wondering which type of PCI card I should purchase to upgrade from the machines on-board video graphics.

PowerEdge 2900 fan 4 failure

I am getting notification of an E1319 RPM fan 4 failure on my PowerEdge 2900 server, and was going to order a new fan. However since all the fans looked like they were working I thought I would test to make sure it was the fan and not a sensor or something else.  So I swapped fan 4 with 5, and restarted.  The event log still says there is a problem with 4.  Can someone help me diagnose the problem further?

License Self-Service Portal gone? (dell.com/support/retail/lkm doesn't work anymore!)

I'm trying to buy/apply an iDRAC7 Enterprise license to my R320 server (currently only have "Basic Management"). However, when I click on "To manage changes to or purchase new licenses visit the License Self-Service Portal" in the iDRAC web interface, or open the link to www.dell.com/support/retail/lkm mentioned in the various iDRAC7 licensing manuals, it always redirects to the "Retail Registration" page for Dell.

Where is the License Self-Service Portal, it used to be there in the past?

Thanks

Cannot find DRAC firmware download

We have a DRAC 5 in a PowerEdge 1950 running Windows Server 2012R2. I cannot get a console window that works with the DRAC 5 on my Windows 8.1 laptop with either IE, Chrome or Firefox. The window is blank in Chrome and Firefox and the toolbar does not work when I click on the buttons in IE, so cannot send a ctrl-alt-del. I figured the DRAC firmware needs updating. It is on v1.0 (Build 06.05.12). When I go to the downloads for my PE1950, it does not show any DRAC firmware downloads. The DRAC was bought later, not with the system. I have searched on Google trying to find Dell DRAC5 firmware downloads but cannot find any that apply to a PE1950 or that I can get to work with it. When I try to run them, I'm told they don't work with my system. I figured that updating the firmware might get the console to work better. My previous experience with consoles not working on DRACs was that Dell had me update the firmware. So please tell me where I can find the firmware since I am not finding it with searching.

VLT0204 System board PS2 PG Fail voltage is outside of range.

This is a reprise of an earlier topic-

I have two R620 servers (dual 2620 CPU, 96g RAM) which were running BIOS1.6.0 and VMware. After updating them to BIOS 2.5.2 they both started showing the VLT0204 messages.  This happens:

With one PSU, the other, or both inserted/energized. Also swapped the PSU's.  (We had them running with a single PSU.)

Always when there are three drives inserted, most of the time with a single drive, occasionally with no drives.

Logs on both contain "The system board BP1 5V PG voltage is outside of range." and "The system board fail-safe voltage is outside of range." (at least the idrac is operating :) ).

I've also done the "pull the a/c, press Power for 30 seconds, try again" thing to no effect. Push comes to shove I can remove components for experimenting, but would like to have a plan for what this will show before I go to the data center again. Suggestions?

Thanks.

R710 stuck at splash screen

I have recently got a Dell R710 shipped to my place.
The power is turning on, Memory configured properly. But when it loads into the splash screen, it's stuck!!
Keyboard lights won't turn on, no response is given.

↑ This is the stuck position (exact progress).

I have tried
a) removing all hard drives, external USB.
b) Just put 1 2GB RAM in slot A1
c) Running with just one CPU (CPU swapped to ensure not faulty)
d) Remove Raid Card
e) Reset Bios and Raid Card through removing the battery for 10 mins
f) Use the jumper to clear VRAM

DRAC can be loaded, but it is a used server... Which the previous owner did not reset the password... Not getting through the splash screen also means no reset of DRAC password can be made Orz

Searched on Google and found someone having the save issue as me. He figured it out by doing a factory reset through DRAC. Will there be anyway to do a Hard Factory reset or DRAC reset? Or other suggestion on what may cause the problem will help.
Many thanks X_X
If it is a faulty machine... Then I will consider firing a dispute T_T

some questions about ssd liteon + power edge 730xd

Hello!
I have several questions about the SSD drives Liteon.
OS Windows Server 2012 and IDRAC detect these drives as Liteon it ECE-20, but I can not find any description, drivers and others for that drives. There is only for ECE-200NAS. Maybe ECE-20 and ECE-200NAS the same thing?
As for now those disks are using Microsoft Standart driver , and I suggest this is not the right way, but I can not find a driver for exactly this drives.

First of all I don't like the write speed

I have two of these drives and they show almost the same results in tests.

PE C6100 / XS23-TY BMC Not Alive/Not Present ::: Recovery Procedure

$

This may be very useful as it seems many people face the issue of C6100 nodes crashing when adding LAN parameters to the BMC from BIOS. This can crash the BMC/corrupt the firmware so the node no longer sees the BMC. The node will appear to not function, but if you give it ~20 minutes, it will will typically POST and give the message "BMC Not Alive" during POST.

The issue is recoverable, the problem is corrupt firmware.

First download the C6100 BMC firmware update from Dell: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=9VJW6&fileId=3259943752&osCode=NAA&productCode=poweredge-c6100&languageCode=EN&categoryId=ES

You’ll want the first option on the page labeled “Floppy.”

You'll need to create a DOS bootable flash drive, I usually use a program called Rufus.. https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Once you’ve got the DOS disk created:

Run the.exe that was downloaded from Dell, it will extract two directories- KCSFlash and SOCFlash, copy them both directly to the DOS drive.

Now boot the node to the DOS drive- you may need to press F11 in POST to get the boot menu where you can select the drive.

Once you’ve booted to the drive and have reached the DOS command line, commands will be as follows:

cd socflash

cd dos

flash8.bat

Reboot back to the DOS drive to run KCSflash:

 cd kcsflash

cd dos

KCSFLASH -c 0 -t 0 -i 5442H133.ROM –r

(the batch file found with KCS does nothing)

SOCFlash is a utility provided by the chip manufacturer, it doesn't care what state the BMC is in, if it detects the chip, it will flash it and effectively repair it. Once it is working with factory firmware, it will take the Dell firmware. KCSFlash is the Dell firmware utility.

Upgrade PE 2950 II to a gen III motherboard?

$

HI,

It looks like the motherboard (CU542) died. Wondering if it's possible to swap it out for a Gen III board. Specifically DP246, M332H or  H268G. I know the processors will swap, they're the same socket/chipset, at least far as far as I can tell. But are there any catches?

Thanks!

Older PowerEdges and PowerVault and hard drives. Try to upgrade?

Got some Poweredges 2300, 4400, 6300, 6400, and a PowerVault 2105 from a government auction.  What is the max size of hard drive can I run "stock" and can I upgrade to larger (3 tb,etc) drives.

They are full of Seagate Cheetah hard drives.  Is it worth trying to sell these or is it easier to take them to the recycle place.

Dell m610 the system board fail-safe voltage is outside of the allowable range

Hello,

we have a PE m1000e enclosure  fully populated with 16 x m610 servers,

2X Xeon x5690 , 96 GB ram , 2X300 GB 10K SAS each

we have some problems with 3 servers, the errors are

the system board fail-safe voltage is outside of the allowable range  or

CPU 1 has an internal error (IERR) or

VCore PG voltage is outside of the allowable range or

A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 0 device 0 function 0

Attached a screen shot of the IRDAC log showing the errors sequence

we just want to know what could possibly cause these kind of errors to the servers and what is the possible solutions , knowing the we tested the supposed to be defected CPUs in other servers and it works fine.

this is no't the first time to have such errors in this enclosure and it appears frequently

Thank you in advance

Regards,
