fans run at high-speed over-cooling CPU

we have two identical server R220, except one with E3-1220 and other with E-1230. I am trying to run them with very low power and noise, so I've disabled turbo-mode and hyper-threading on E3-1230, thus making it very similar to E3-1220.


But... here is CPU temp and fans speed on one server

I've tried all possible ways to bring Temp to 30+C so the fans will run at 3K: updated BIOS, iDRAC, replaced fans, replaced MB too. Apparently this MB does not have chip for OS to regulate fans speed.


Any insight and recommendation are appreciated

R710 not pulling up Perc 6/e

I have a R710 with a H700 raid controller.  I wanted to add a PERC 6/E to it, but when I add the 6/E it does not pull up.  I removed the H700 and it still won't pull up.  Any thoughts on what this could be other than a bad 6/E controller?

T310 struct at "iDrac6 not responding!! rebooting".

My Dell T310 running VMware esxi.

It hasn't any iDrac card.

Yesterday, it has problem.

When i power on this machine it will struct at "iDrac6 not responding!! rebooting" message.

Fron panel LCD is blank, no any word, no any light.

I have resetting Nvram by jumper. nothing better.

Can u guys help me.

Performance problems

Hi!

We have a PowerEdge R510 with 2xE5620 and 24GB of RAM running W2008 R2 Datacenter.

We ran a MIPS measuring tool which is using only one core sustained. We ran this tool on both host and inside W2008 R2 virtual machines.

We got best results on Host, but there is a problem:

1.) Occasionally the CPU processing speed drops by nearly exactly 60%. After several seconds it recovers.

2.) Sometimes it remains 60% slower and only occasional recovers.

Behaviour #1 is more common on Host and behavior #2 more common on the virtual machine.

Anybody knows what this could be? Hyper-V has NUMA disabled.

We are running live video transcoding on the server and sustained performance is very important.

Random emails "The storage BP1 power cable is not connected" R620

Poweredge R620 iDrac will randomly email out a message saying "The storage BP1 Power cable is not connected, or is improperly connected."  Here's the thing, we don't have ANY hard drive in it.  All the storage is from an EMC VNX5200.  So why are we getting this message and how can I disable it?  What category under the iDrac alerts does this fall under so I can remove the checkmark?

We have 2 other servers with the exact same configuration, but they never email this message out.  VMWare boots from an SD card and the SAN takes care of the rest.  When we get this email there is no other alarms from VMWare and no performance degradation at all.

Poweredge2800 - memory upgrade

Hi all,

I would like to extend memory in my serwver up to 16 gb of ram. There are 6 slots for memory + 1 if i am good remember. This last one is in diffrent place inside server (256 ram). So 7 slots??

Actually i have 4x 1 gb ram and 1x 256 (this in diffrent location).

What kind of memory should i buy (the best choise in my situation?

R730 PSU 750W fails FCC part 15 class A and CISPR 22 conducted emission test

We have recently purchased two R730 server from the Dell representatives in Australia. One of which has undergone a FCC part 15 class A / CISPR 22 test, and fails the conducted emission test at 120V 60Hz. However, it did pass the test at 240V which seems to indicate that the additional current for 120V generates excessive noise to fail the test at around 190kHz. The NATA accredited EMC lab in Melbourne measured a peak of 86.2dBuV when the FCC and CISPR require it below 79dBuV.

All evidences point to the power supply unit as it fails all the way from power-on to power-off. The PSU is a 750W hot-plug Platinum unit with redundancy. Both PSU were tested with the same symptom.

Although it is OK to consume the unit in Australia, our customers come from all over the world, including the United States. We, therefore, need to identify which PSU is safe to operate in US, since Dell products are sold in the US in compliance with the very same FCC regulations.

I would like to find out if anybody has done a FCC part 15 class A or CISPR22 test for EMI/EMC compliance with PowerEdge R730 server or any PowerEdge servers, and managed to pass the certification.

PowerEdge T110-II - 4TB Hard drive

I have a PowerEdge T110-II server running VMware ESXi 5.5.  I have added a 4TB SATA drive.  The BIOS does not recognize the drive.  It is not being identified under the SATA settings.  I have tried changing the boot option from BIOS to UEFI and it still does not identify properly.  I have BIOS version 2.0.5 installed.  I have found anything in the BIOS release notes that indicates that I need to update to 2.0.7.  Any ideas?

PowerEdge 2970 w/AMD Opteron 2212, problem with 2nd CPU install

Hi,

We had this server donated to us and I am trying to get it ready to use. (fairly new with servers)

It came with (1) CPU and 2 gb of Ram and it runs good. The BIOS reported this CPU as an AMD Opteron 2212. I wanted to add a 2nd CPU and found some refurbished. They were described as 2nd generation Opteron 2212's OSP2214GAA6CQ.

When I installed one and restarted the system I got the message "This system supports only Opteron F3 or later processors". Is there a setting in the BIOS that I need to change.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

R510 Supported CPU's

Tried to upgrade one of our R510's to 2 Intel Xeon X5687 processors, but found out that the R510's don't support 130w CPU's???  Is there a list of supported CPU's because the documentation lists all 5500 and 5600 cpu's are supported.

PowerEdge 1900 Dual-Socketed .... Now what?

Just installed a second processor in the P.E. 1900 II. The processor shows in the BIOS, so it's working, but how do I get it to be recognized in Server 2012 R2? In device manager it lists 8 identical CPU's (2x4 cored CPU's), but nothing shows in task manager and the advanced boot options suggests its just a 4 core beast.

Dell PowerEdge M620 [NIC problem]

We have a problem with NIC of Dell PowerEdge M620.

In iDRAC log event it shows: NIC 100: The NIC Integrated 1 Port 2 network link is down. 

We have switched the server from one slot to another and the problem is not showing anymore. But in first slot it's always showing the problem with the NIC. 

We have VMware installation in servers.

Looking forward for your help.

POWEREDGE R 710 MEMORY CONFIGURATION

Hi guys,

i have a Poweredge server R710 with 2 processor. Actually i have 8 x 4GB RAM (Tot. 32GB). Is possibile mix the memory size of 4GB with 2 memory of 16GB RAM.

I tested the configuration but during the system boot Memory Unsupported appear.

Dell PowerEdge 800 Hardware Issues?

I have a Dell Power Edge 800 Server that is just randomly locking up on me frequently. It is running Windows SBS 2003 but the event logs don't show much other than unexpected system shutdown from the hard reset done when the system locks up. I'm getting a flashing amber light which usually means there is a hardware problem but the A B C D E indicator lights on the front panel are all glowing green. Are there any other indicator lights that I should check? Is there some kind of log that records Dell Hardware Events? If so, how can access them to see what the problem is. What would you suggest that I look at or do next?

T110 No display

Hello, I have a poweredge t110 and the display won't work. I had this computer for about a year and it worked perfectly two days before it broke. I took the graphics card out, which is an xfx r5 230. I plugged it into the builtin vga port and turn it on and nothing happened. A month ago I had a problem with graphics cards, it seems that the faster the card you have, the slower the computer is. I took the cmos battery out then put it back in and nothing happened. I also noticed that the 1 light is constant on the front of the computer. I'm wondering if there is something with the bios? I don't know, help!

Dell YT674 NIC Drivers needed for 2012 R2

I am decommissioning several 1950 servers; each of them have 2 of these NICs. I'm spinning up a new R320 with Server 2012R2 and thought I'd throw one of these NICs in it, but I'm finding it impossible to get drivers for the NIC.

Anybody have a link to drivers that will work in 2012R2?

I have an older Poweredge T300 running windows 2012 r2. The scsi adapter is very finicky. Some drives aren't even recognized at all. I installed a 5TB drive and the OS only reads 2TB i cant for the life of me figure out how to extend past the 2TB size of the drive. Help would be appreciated
