I am looking to get this server with Windows Server 2012 (Foundation or Standard edition), cabled for 4 drives, no RAID controllers.
1) Someone posted a week ago on this forum that this model is almost 2 years old and is about to be replaced by a newer one. Are there any definite information for this? What new features in newer model would be worth waiting for?
2) Are there any well known problems with T110 II model?
3) Is it quiet (several reviews say it is)?
4) Is it a good idea just to buy one smallest drive with it (1GB SATA) and get the rest elsewhere? At NewEgg enterprise level drive in 1 and 2 GB size are $100 less expensive than from Dell.
5) If I choose "OS Partition" = None - what does it mean?
6) In OS description from Dell configurator it says: Windows Server® 2012,Standard Ed,Factory Install,No MED,2 Socket,2 VMs
What does 2 VM-s refer to? The number of VMs I can run simultaneously?
7) On this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_2012 for Essentials Edition it says:"Either in 1 VM or 1 physical server, but not both at once" - not sure what that means. Also it says the Essential Edition server "Must be root of forest and domain" - does it mean it MUST be domain controller? Because this wouldn't work for me - I don't want to run domain environment.
8) Does onboard SATA controller support drives large than 2 GB?
