Hello all, I have a problem I would like some feedback on this problem
We had 2 batches of R420 servers, maybe about 2 month apart.
Dell PowerEdge R420, up to date firmware, PERC H310, RAID 1, 2 disks are formed 2 virtual disks within H310, it is specified in the controller that the smaller Virtual disk should be the boot VD.
2 x SATA Seagate Constallion ES PN ST10000NM
everything else, down to the option in bios are identical. lifecycle are disabled and nothing is collected at boot time.
The issue, well more like an inconsistency that we are having is that whenever the server boots, warm or cold, after the BIO post a screen will show up with the words
"scanning for devices. please wait this may take several minutes"
starting from then the activity light on harddrive 2 blinking, hd 1 does not. the screen will go blank and the hd 2 activity light will blink nonstop for 2 - 3 minutes before the server will start loading the os.
the 2 servers on the early batch does not do that. the drives in those server are western digitals, i doubt that matters. None the less, this inconsistency have raised some concern down the road about reliability.
