Owner of several different Power Edge Servers, however, this is the first Tower style we have purchased not that it matters. The problem server is a week old T630 which came with dual 1100W PSU and 2x E5-2603V4 CPUs with the intention of switching them when we received the server to E5-2660V4.
Upon installing the two new out of the box, CPU's the system refuses to boot initially it will act like it powers on but immediately turns off and the LCD status screen turns orange showing an error "VLT0304" CPU 1 PG Voltage out of allowable range. I contacted Dell support and was informed that the system indeed supported these CPU's however, no matter what troubleshooting we did would resolve the issue.
We did things such as, move the CPU's from socket 1 to socket 2 and socket 2 to socket 1. Then we tried removing everything put one CPU and one stick of ram. No matter what we did, it would produce the same error.
Eventually, the support guy asked me to install the old CPU's, and it fired right up, then he said both new CPU's (new out of the box) were faulty and got two new ones which I did with the same problem. That being said, I reject the suggestion that four new retail CPU's would be bad.
The system runs the newest bios, as we double checked that, the memory is 2400MHZ so we aren't sure what to do at this point as you can buy the same server with factory installed CPU's of the same model. Also, doesn't matter what order the PSU's are in, or brand of ram (both new retail and the stuff it came with)
The support guy gave me SR # <removed> and his name was <removed> Enterprise Technical Support Analyst.
Anyone else has any idea what's going on?
