Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade the memory on my T605 server, <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>, and I ran into a few discrepancies with the Dell documentation.
According to the owner's manual,
You can upgrade your system memory to a maximum of 16 GB (for a oneprocessor configuration) or 32 GB (for a two-processor configuration).
You can install 667-MHz registered parity DDR2 memory modules (DIMMs) in sets of 512-MB, 1-GB, 2-GB, or 4-GB modules.
I already know part of this is false, as my server came stock with 800-MHz modules, and they are indeed running at 800-MHz; They are Dell P/N: A2408011, and can be found here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=A2408011&mfgpid=197151&chassisid=8560
I'm wondering if the specifications for maximum module / total RAM size are incorrect as well. The 3rd generation Opteron processors can support 8GB modules per the compatibility list found here: http://support.amd.com/us/Documents/Opteron%2045nm%20Registered%20DDR2%20DIMM.pdf.
This leads me to believe this system can support 64GB total as opposed to the listed 32GB. I don't particularly care if it is a validated/supported configuration as this server is far out of warranty, I'd just like to know if anyone has tried it or knows if it would work.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
