I recently acquired a PowerEdge r210ii and plan to set it up as a home server. I haven't received it yet, so apologies in advance for some vaguely-worded statements and questions. :-) I'd like to use SATA DOM for the boot volume (to avoid a slow USB device and keep the 3.5" drive bay free) and happen to have one handy from an old SuperMicro server that I'm retiring. However, I can't find anything in any of the documentation available referencing SATA DOM, and general googling doesn't turn up anything, either.
Based on this information (or lack thereof), the power for the module (5V) won't likely be supplied through the SATA port, so I'll have to power it some other way. It looks like there's a USB header near the SATA ports, but I'm assuming this is already being used for the external USB ports on the front panel. I also see what looks like a free four-pin fan power header near the battery, so that might be an option.
Anyway, has anyone had any luck with SATA DOM on an r210ii or similar model (r210, r410, r620)? Are they any other strategies I'm overlooking here?
