PowerEdge T410 / Dell 6/iR RAID Problem - Not detecting both drives in mirror

We've got a Dell PowerEdge T410 with a Dell 6/ir RAID controller.

We're trying to get two 600GB SAS drives to work in a RAID1 mirror configuration.

Currently, the RAID card only detects drive 0 (we have the drives connected to 0 and 1 currently).

The drives themselves are inserted into the chassis, and from there they connect to the backplane board. The backplane board connects to the RAID controller via the Mini-SAS to SAS cable.

No matter what we try, only the drive on connection 0 gets identified up by the RAID card.  If we try the one drive at a time on connection 0, it will pick the drives up - we know that the drives are working fine.

We've also tried without the backplane board, connecting the RAID card to the hard drives with the standard SAS cable that comes with the RAID card, but still the RAID card will only detect one drive.

We've tried multiple RAID 6/iR cards, as well as multiple SAS cables.

We feel as if we're missing something obvious.

Thanks in advance.
