We have two identical PowerEdge R720 servers that act as video recorders.
In each machine there are 7 SAS drives configured as 3 virtual disks.
All drives are certified Dell SAS drives and have the latest firmware.
Drives 0 & 1 are in a RAID 1 configuration
Drives 2 & 3 are in a RAID 1 configuration
Drives 4, 5 and 6 are in a RAID 5 configuration.
Recently one the servers started logging "a fault with drive 3" on boot in the main system log in iDrac. Closer examination shows no problems with the drive, it's online and failure is not predicted (healthy).
However, it appears to have fallen off the Enclosure/Backplane and now appears as a directly attached drive. It doesn't seem to affect normal operations, but the error messages logged on each boot are annoying.
Is there a way for that drive to become part of the Enclosure/Backplane again? The virtual disk can be blown away if necessary as there is only a few Kb of data on it at present.
I'm attaching two images, one of the good server, and one of the bad, to illustrate the point.
Many thanks,
Dave.
