I just started a new job and I am not so keen on server machines. The company has a Poweredge T410 with 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz, and 12GB of RAM (6x2GB). This server is used for ESXi and performs pretty well, but my boss would like to double the RAM to 24GB the most efficient and cost effective way as possible.
Doing a dump from VMWare I see that DIMMs A1,A2,A3,B1,B2,B3 have the following:
Manufacturer: "002C00B3802C"
Part Number: "9KSF25672PZ-1G4D1"
Form Factor: 0x09 (DIMM)
Type: 0x18 (DDR3)
Type Detail: 0x2080 (Synchronous, Registered)
Data Width: 64 bits (+8 ECC bits)
Size: 2 GB
Speed: 1333 MHz
Now the question I pose, would it be possible to put in 2x6GB 1333 MHz into DIMMs A4,B4 and call it a day? Would that even work? Or would 4x6GB/3x8GB be better? I need some help here.
EDIT: Fail... There are no 6GB sticks. Would adding 16GB (2x8GB) work?
