Upgrading a PowerEdge 2900 series, production date was late 2008.
Motherboard has the SATA slots, not IDE, which I've read means it has the latest revision board in it.
The service tag does not reveal what processors are available, started a chat with Dell, they indicated the X5450 processors that I currently have in my possession were available for purchase as an upgrade on the server matching my service tag.
There are also PowerEdge 2900 (not PowerEdge III) selling functional with the X5450 processors. So I proceeded.
I upgraded the bios to the latest 2.7.
The error I'm getting is "Unsupported CPU Configuration". Further reading in the dell forums someone mentions a motherboard upgrade to use the X0 series processors. So does that mean all these PowerEdge 2900 servers I see with the X0 series processors have changed the motherboards out?
Or am I missing something to get this processor to work properly?
Thanks.
