Hello, we have a Dell PowerEdge R310, Service Tag 1YPZPW1, that is currently running 4 sticks of 4GB DDR3 800Mhz in slots 1, 2, 3 and 4. A partner of ours who manages the client installed 4 sticks of 8GB Ram and the server would not power on. I went onsite with brand new memory, 2 sticks of 8Gb, to add to the server to give it 32Gb and fill slots 5 and 6. I get error...
Maximum Rank Count Exceeded: The following DIMM has been disabled
And it disabled A2, A4, A6
I also get error:
Quad rank DIMM detected after single rank or dual rank DIMM in socket, A4
I moved RAM sticks around and eventually only had two 8GB sticks installed in A1 and A2 and and server would not pass POST or reach bios/start screen. I removed ram in A2 and server turns on just fine. I swapped ram in A1 to test both sticks of 8GB ram and both sticks allowed server to power on and pass post, go into Windows.
Why will server not accept the 8GB sticks in conjunction with the 4GB sticks?? I'm confused :(
