Poweredge 2900 HDD5 fault leading to operating system loss

Help! I have a Poweredge 2900 which has multiple problems and dont know the best way to fix it hopefully without losing vital data.

It started with HDD5 fault which wasn't noticed, I then was unable to access data and on checking the server actually disc 2 and 5 were showing faults.

Foolishly tried several reboots and reseating the drives in case this might help, but I have made it much worse and now I have lost the operating system.

I do at least have a full system back up but it is a couple of weeks old on a NAS drive and I really want to restore the latest data if possible.

I have ordered two new drives to replace the faulty ones

My first problem is how to restore the operating system as I don't have the original discs, I'm thinking I could download the evaluation version to start with, then hot swap the two faulty drives and see if it will rebuild.

I'm pretty sure it is raid 5 but not sure exactly how it is setup. There are two HDDS horizontal at the top which I assume one is the C: drive, then there are 8 vertical drives all containing 300GB HDDs labelled 0 through to 7, which ones would be the raid configuration and which ones spares I don't know

The other option again using the evaluation copy but then restore from the base metal build backup? will that even work?

If I do that I will overwrite my data with the older version but do I have another option?

Any help would get me out of a big hole, thanks in advance

Steve
