I purchased a used PowerEdge 2400 that I would like to upgrade / resurrect. I know it is a bit of a relic, but I’m hoping I can still find some support here.
The service tag is 82RQ10B, but I have pushed it to the following specs:
2 P3 1000MHz processors, 2GB of RAM, 6 Seagate 15K 73GB drives. I also acquired, but have not yet installed, the RAID key (8286R A02) and matching RAM.
My questions have to do with software versions. This server did not come with any CDs or diskettes, and I’m confused about all that’s out there. There are more than 3,000 files on the “ftp.dell.com - /sysman/” site, and I’m not sure what all I need.
For instance, the 4.5_ISM_A00.ISO seems to recognize my system, and with it I installed a test utility partition and performed system diagnostics, but the corresponding 4.5_DOC_A00.ISO has no manual nor specific information on the 2400, especially how to do the RAID upgrade. Which version ISM and DOCs should I be using?
When I go to the more targeted “http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/poweredge-2400.html”, I don’t find any ISO images of the Installation & Server Management tools, just the Server Upgrade Utilities.
Once I get it installed / configured, I think I can find the various patches, upgrades, etc., but where to begin? Can someone provide me a map to the software and documentation I need to start with?
Any and all help greatly appreciated!
