This is a bit of a rant, but please listen carefully and take to heart to make appropriate, positive changes to how you provide information and support files to your customers. I promise you that my views expressed here represent the majority of your customers.
Please stop removing old (previous) firmware revisions from the Support Website! Sometimes your customers really need the older firmware revisions, whether you agree with that or not. If you must move them from one place, at least make them available somewhere else and let your customers know what you are doing. Also, it would be really nice if you could appropriately name firmware and driver revisions on the FTP website. In other words, provide a name for the file that is NOT cryptic and accurately describes what the file is so it can easily be found. Organize the files in such a way that your customers can find them.
Recently, the url that I have been using for years to access the Dell Support Website just went away! I was not even redirected to the new url!! In addition, the Home Page of the new url is broken, in that, if I enter a service tag number in the appropriate field provided on the webpage, there is no response whatsoever. I must select the "Support By Product" tab at the top of the page, which takes me to an almost identical page that does allow me to enter a service tag and get a response.
These kind of changes hurt customers, not help them. It seems as though all the other major OEMs have been doing these same type of things for a while now, that is, pushing things to customers we don't want and not making things available that we need. PLEASE DO NOT GO THE WAY OF ALL OF THE OTHER OEMs. Do it better, keep your customers happy and loyal, and make things easier for us, not harder.
