I have a Dell Power Edge 840 Machine with Intel Dual Core CPU @ 1.8 GHz. Is there some procedure to upgrade the memory to 8GB. I have 4 RAM cards of size 2 GB of type ---->
1. Information from Label 1 on each RAM card
Company --> Crucial RP113GC.37
CT25672AA667 18FG
2GB 240 - PIN UNBUFF DIMM 256X72
2, Information from Label 2 on each RAM card
MT18HTF25672AY-667G1 1021
2GB 2RX8 PC2-5300E-555-13-G0
Now, the motherboard has 4 RAM slots. 2 slots have clips which are white and 2 slots have clips which are black in color. These slots form 2 pairs of RAM slots with each pair composed of a white and a black colored clip to hold the 2 RAM cards in place together for each pair.
Since I have identical 4 RAM cards, when I insert 1 card to each slot colored white, the system accepts the configuration and boots. But when I insert 2 of these same RAM cards to occupy a single pair of slots (white and black, adjacent to each other), the system does not boot. It complanes, saying, "Incorrect Memory configuration. Please check whether the RAM cards are same in size, rank and model".
I am thinking that each RAM channel in motherboard has an in-built upper bound of 2GB. That is why when anything is put in the black colored slot after a 2 GB RAM card inserted to its white colored companion, it sort of complains.
Can someone shed some light as to how I can put more memory into this system?
Thanks,
